Hi T., I am a grandma who had 2 children and have been raising my 2 grandsons. I am 63 years old. Years ago, when my kids were teething we put a little WHISKEY in a small container in the refridgerator. When it was cold we would RUB it on their gums. The little bit that they might swallow is harmless.

I have also used the homepathic tablets. The brand was hylands and I got them at CVS. They seemed to help more than the other things.

This worked with my first son and now my second. I take an ice cube, fozen juice cube, or any fozen fruit and put it in one of those mesh infant solid food feeders. It feels good on the gums and its fun!

I understand. I am a first time mom also of an almost 11 month old baby. try hylands teething tablets they are natural and work great. disney also makes homeopathic teething liquid drops. both of those do help.I know they sell both of these at pathmark and the hylands tablets at walmart. give her some to chew on that will help also. try some teething toys. believe it or not my son likes to chew on the rubbery top of the tylenol bottle. he got in two teeth at a time and was a monster when he was teething. good luck it will get better.

Try baby Motrin, it contains an anti-inflamatory that Tylenol does not. This may help better

I used Hylands Teething tablets also, both for infants and when my kids were getting 2 year and 6 year molars. They used to have a teething ointment also, not sure if this is still available, it was years ago that I got it.

Poor baby :(
I always give my daughter Infant Motrin for pain. Since she is only 6 months I would check with your peditricin first. I cannot remember what age they can start taking Motrin. Something that helps break the tooth through is to wet a wash cloth put it in the freezer and then give it to the baby to chew on. It will get her all wet, but it does help the teething process. Godd luck!

Ask your doctor but I was giving my daughter motrin for that because it seemed to work better. He can tell you the proper dosage for that.

I never wanted to use whiskey but that was the only thing that stopped the pain. You stick the tip of your index finger in the bottle and turn it upside down and rub on gums

Hi T.,

I use Hyland's Teething Tablets. (They're a homeopathic concoction that you can buy in a drugstore. No prescription needed or anything.)

We give them to my daughter along with the Orajel. Three tablets like 10-15 minutes before bed helps to calm her down -- you know, when she's screaming in pain.

Some people swear by them. I'm one of them. Other people don't like them because they claim that the belladonna that is the "active" ingredient, if you will, for soothing the baby causes them to "trip out." The Hyland company did address this concern and explained that only in very high doses can belladonna do this to humans... I remember it stating that you would have to give your child three bottles of the stuff at one time. (The recommended dosage is between two to three tablets -- a far cry from three bottles! They dissolve easily in the mouth and taste sweet/sugary. I never have to struggle getting my daughter to take them.)

I would do my own research and touch base with my pediatrician about it if you have questions about the tablets.

T. :)

I have found Tylenol to be necessary for bad teething pain when my little one is crying and inconsolable.

But what I found that I think works better than regular Orajel is the Gentle Naturals Homeopathic Teething Drops. They are made by Orajel, but are branded under the Disney name and have Pooh and Piglet on the label.

The last for two hours and taste good. Before I gave them to my daughter, I tried them on a part of my tongue I had burned on hot food. Literally took the pain away in seconds and lasted the better part of the two hours.

Plus they don't numb the mouth the way regular Orajel does, so no numb lips, tongue or cheeks!

I can usually find them at CVS, Babies R Us or Target.

Hi T.,

My son liked those teething rings that you stick in the freezer. The cold really helps with the tooth pain.

Hi, T.! My 8 month old is just a big ball of drool these days. I give him one of those fruit nets (you can find them at babies r us) & I stuff it with frozen bananas when he's inconsolable and the tylenol just isn't helping. It's nice and cold on his gums and holding it/trying to find his mouth seems to provide some distraction from the pain.
Just be sure to bib your little one; those fruit stains are tough to get out of clothing! Good luck!

Hi T.,

I use Natural Essentials. There is a pictire of Pooh and I think Tigger on it. It is a dropper type product, but my son does not mind the taste. You can get it in CVS or any local drug store. Good luck!

I use Hylands teething tablets. They are easy to disolve in your child's mouth. They say put them under the tongue but I just put them in my son's mouth and they still disolve. Plus my son loves taking them. As soon as he sees the bottle he opens his mouth and he is only 7 months. He got his first 2 teeth when he was 4 months old and they really helped. Good luck.

I also used Hyland's Teething Tablets (Walmart) and they worked well. I didn't try anything else, so I don't have a comparison, but I wanted to stay all-natural and these worked for my son around 8 months when he was getting 3 teeth at once! I would give him 2 tablets before naps and before bed. He also opened his mouth in anticipation of eating them! They dissolve really quickly. Try one first, so you can see how fast they dissolve. Best wishes with your 6 month old!

I agree with everyone else who suggested Hyland's teething tablets--I've heard they are GREAT--too late for my son but if I were doing it now--I would definitely try them. Have you tried wetting, folding & freezing baby washcloths? Wet, wring, fold into quarters, stack & put in a ziplock bag in the freezer. My son LOVED chewing on O. when his teeth were on the way!

I bought teething tablets at Babies R US. I don't remember the brand, but they work really well & you can give them like every 2 hours if necessary. My son usually only needed a dose before naps & bed. They are really tiny & dissolve in the mouth.
