Hi mamas, I was just wondering if any of you were from Omaha, Nebraska? Because we are thinking about moving there and I wanted to know how the schools were? Because I have 2 boys one who is almost 4 and one who is 15 months and I want to make sure the schools were good there. I have never been there before though. My husbands job offered him a better pay if we move out there. Thanks for your help.

What can I do next?

I lived there for 3 years (before kids) and LOVED IT! I think it's about the size of Birmingham, or just a bit bigger. I also suggest Papillion or west Omaha. The schools seem to be pretty good and I think there are some websites where you can compare them (greatschools.net?). There's so much to do there, a super aquarium and zoo, the college baseball world series, rodeos, concerts, and a wonderful Old Market downtown area with restaurants and bars. I think you'll love it!

I'm sure you'll hear from some current residents but I lived just outside of Omaha in Papillion, NE many, many years ago. I attended 6th - 9th grade while living there. I loved it! I moved around a lot as a child and that is the one state that I have told my husband I would be thrilled to return to!!

I know that Papillion typically shows up on the "Best Places to Live" list or "Best Places to Raise a Family" list. If your husband's commute would allow you to live outside of the city, I recommend you at least check it out. The city of Omaha is nice too, but I'm not as familiar with it.

Good luck!
K.

My husband is from there and I'm from a small town outside of Omaha. The better schools in OPS are going to be in west Omaha, newer houses, young families and a lot of amenities. Millard has good schools also. Westside district is a small district in midtown. My friend teaches middle school there and loves it. The only drawback is if you wanted a newer house, the houses are all older in this district. However, there are many neat houses despite being older. The other suburb that is really growing is Elkhorn. They are supposed to have very good schools. Good luck and if you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask!

I'm not from Omaha, but I travel there weekly for work. I live in Beaver Crossing, NE which a small town West of Lincoln, NE.
I don't know about the schools, but I would consider moving to a smaller town near to Omaha then Omaha itself. As far as cities go Omaha isn't bad, but surrounding small towns are better for raising children while still allowing your husband to work in Omaha. Oh, and if you are a Christian check out Liberty Christian Center in Omaha on L street. Excellent Pastor and very nice people.

We visit Omaha lots! I suggest a suburb and not in Omaha. When we move we always stay in an apt. for awhile before purchasing a house. I then get an idea for myself what best fits for our family.
