Water. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I was going through the same thing where I would run out of energy at 3:30-4:00 because I was getting dehydrated. Now I make sure that I am drinking AT LEAST 64oz of water each day. I bought a 32 oz. water bottle and I refill it twice a day. Also If you drink Soda...you have to combat the sodium in the soda so for every oz of soda you drink you have to drink just as much water (in addition to your regular 64oz) this may sound like a lot, but most sodas have caffeine and that will make your body lose water. The second is a daily vitamin. Even if it's just your kids' flinstones it will still make a huge difference. Try it for two weeks- Water is a really CHEAP fix- you'll be amazed.
Check thyroid!!!!!! Call doc asap, one of the most misdiagnosed syndrome!
I agree with the mom who posted to have your thyroid checked. This could be the issue. However, you do sound like a busy lady! I'm impressed at how together you have it. I don't think it is crazy that you are exhausted just from your day to day activity. Another thought, I have a B vitamin deficiency. It wouldn't hurt to be tested for this as well as vit D. I would try a vit B supplement around lunch time to see if that helps. You can get the ones that dissolve on your tongue. Those are better absorbed into your blood stream, from what I understand. Lastly, have a protein snack with a carb about an hour before you typically feel run down. This could help too. It is possible that your healthy diet is so healthy that your body is feeling the pain of not getting what it's used to getting. Try a handful of nuts, piece of cheese and an apple or popcorn. Or make yourself a smoothie and add a protein powder. They don't all taste good. We like the Whole Foods 365 brand (vanilla whey protein).
Maybe in your quest to lose weight you are not taking in enough calories, and working nights can tale a toll on just about anyone. J.
It could be normal- it is normal for new moms to be sleep deprived.
However you know your body better than anyone else, and if you think you think this isn't normal for you, talk to your doc. A simple blood test can check for anemia or hypothroidism or low vitamin D (all of which can result in fatigue).
ETA: Low homocysteine levels can result if you are B vitamin deficient, that is another simple blood test.
There were two distinct times in my life when I had prolonged tiredness. The first time was due to the fact that I had a B12 deficiency. Since I'm nearly a vegetarian and B12 is not available in plant sources, I needed to take a supplement to increase my balance. The second time was due to the fact that I was hypo thyroid.
You maybe tired because you are doing a lot but you may want to investigate these two possibilities to see if they will help you feel more like you at the end of the day.
Another vote for having your thyroid check. If your thyroid is acting screwy, then your whole body will get wacky. Postpartum thyroid issues are very common as having a baby causes all sorts of chain reactions in hormone level. A thyroid that is sluggish (i.e. hypo) post baby is usually a transient condition which will resolve on its own with time. If you do have a thyroid issue, a doctor will be able to tell you how it was triggered and can developed a treatment plan based on the root cause. Of course, your tiredness can be a result of low vitamins as well. Have the doctor run a check for low vitamin B and D in addition to the Thyroid tests.
Good luck to you and please go see an endo as soon as possible. There are so many women who have thyroid conditions and are suffering because they explain away the symptoms as being part of motherhood. Listen to your body and take care of yourself!!!!
It may sound weird but have your dr check your thyroid. I have hashimotos disease and some days I am so tired that I can't keep my eyes open and other days I have so much energy I don't know what to do with it. It is a simple blood test. When you are pregnant your baby draws from your thyroid. So maybe your thyroid is out of whack from the pregnancy. I would just have them check to make sure.
Also being a new parent can be draining. You have to get yourself on a schedule as well as the baby. But I would definelty have your thyroid checked. Good luck and feel better.
When you are tired is it at all possible for you to take a 20 minute power nap? They work wonders.... and it's pretty amazing what 20 to 30 minutes will do for you. Sometimes you become tired because of depression, sleep is an escape for not having to do something you have to do but don't really want to do... do you think you could be a little depressed?
I'd try to figure out how to take that nap and start there.
Being a mom, a wife, and working part time out of the home is draining, so you are not feeling tired for NO reason... it's an exhausting schedule we keep once we are taking care of more lives than just our own :) Make sure you are getting a good amount of the B vitamins? You might want to pick up a bottle of the B-12 sublingual dots... those are the ones you put under your tongue and they dissolve.... they help give you an energy boost. You should be able to find them in the vitamin section at any pharmacy.
I use to have the same problem. I started taking oligo and I go all day. I do not sell these vitamins but I will share with you where I shop. The company guarantees you will feel a difference or they will give you your money back.
I was exhausted after my second was born. He is a year now and even if I get 8 hours of sleep or 4 I feel the same. If I eat dairy, wheat or yeast I am exhausted! Maybe you have some food intolerances that are keeping you from having energy. Are you getting enough good fat? Are you weight training and getting at least 30 mintues of cardio? Try letting daddy get up at night if you can unless you are nursing of course. Slow down a little and get some help with the little things like cleaning. You are wearing yourself thin. I did the same thing. Put the super mom cape in the closet for a while. :-)
Here's one not mentioned yet: you need to get your daughter sleeping thru the night. A 10 month old should be able to go all night and stay asleep. This issue has been addressed a hundred times on this site, so you can look in the archives for answers.
My youngest had frequent ear infections. He would get up a lot b/c of the pain. But then he was getting up b/c his body was used to that schedule.
We all set our sleep clocks based on habits. Then once we got him to sleep thru the night again, I had to reprogram my sleep clock, b/c I was still waking up at 3am on the dot every day.
When we started getting a full night's sleep, I felt like a brand new person!!! It was amazing!
I completely understand. I have a 3 year old and just had my second.
I felt the same after my first. I do work full time and try to hit the gym or memorial park if not every day at least every other day. Actually, I just got a trainer to help me this time.
First, get your 10 month old to sleep thru the night. She should be able to. You will need to let her cry it out. It will not hurt her. It will probably take 4 nights to get her schedule changed.
Second, get a housekeeper to do the cleaning. I learned this after having my first.
Third, do not cook everyday or even other day. If you can do leftovers, then cook twice a week. I suggest using a crockpot. You can put in your ingredients and cook while you are sleeping or at work. Also, cook meals you can freeze i.e. lasagna, stews, spaghetti, soups, chicken nuggets, etc.
I am very healthy and active. I, myself, are trying to learn how to tone it down a bit b/c I am learning I cannot do everything.
One thing that has definitely helped me with having to run errands is I signed up for Amazon Prime. It is free two day shipping and $3 overnight. It cost about $70 a year. I order anything from makeup, birthday presents, christmas presents, formula, diapers, toys, anything and everything. It has saved tremendously on time and surprisingly money.
I am always looking for things to help me out on saving time and convenience.
I'm really starting to think it is normal! I was worried myself and went to the doctor....which you can do. They ran some tests and everything was normal. I work full time (and full time mom of course). By the time Friday comes, I am EXHAUSTED! I can barely function. I never want to go out anymore and do anything I am so tired. My doctor told me to excercise. I think once spring comes, it will be easier for me to get out and do that. But...I hate the cold and refuse to go outside yet!
