Hi everyone - is there something going around? My 5yo came home with a mild fever yesterday and she complained of neck pain. The fever broke during the night but she said her necks is still a little sore and she does not have much of an appetite. Thanks!
Thank you for all the responses! My daughter's fever broke last night but she is still complaining of a sore throat. It does seemlike a virus is going around so I will monitor tomorrow and then call the doctor if it persists. Will keep you posted! M.
My one year old had a fever for 3 days and got a rash yesterday. My pedi suspected Roseola. But I don't know. She is doing better now, my 5 year old is okay up to this point. good luck!
My daughter had a very high fever (102-104.4) for 3 days. She also had a headache and was very sleepy, of course. (She is 2 years old.) I took her to the doctor, and they checked/tested for bacterial infection, urinary tract infection, and pneumonia, but it wasn't any of that. Supposedly, it is a virus, which thank Heaven, she dropped her fever the next day some.
I don't know if it's the same thing, but she did want me to rub her back and head quite often. I cooled her down with a wet washcloth to get her fever down some. When she was cooled down, she was playing like normal. She didn't eat much but was very thirsty.
I hope your daughter feels better soon. I would take her in if it continues, just to be sure. Take care, dear!
This weather has been terrible and everyone I have talked to or know even me has had strep throat. Hopefully that isn't it cause it is terrible.

My family of 6 had something similar last week. A fever that comes and goes for about 3 days with total body aches, including the neck. We all had pain in our lymph nodes in our neck the last day of it. Everyone is fine now but it sucks to be sick in the summer! Hope your daughter feels much better soon!
My 2 yr old was VERY sick last wk or so. He came and didn't want to eat dinner which is Very unusual for him. He woke up in the middle of the night and threw up and that morning he wanted milk and through it all up so I took him to the dr which he said was a virus. The next day he a fever 103.5 and still didn't want to eat and now drink. He started getting dehydrated, his lips were chapping and His fever persisted and now diarreah so I took him back in and sure enough he had a SEVERE throat infection(not strep) with about 15 puss pockets/blisters and VERY swollen and red throat as well as a knot on the side of his neck. He got on antibotics and this persisted for about 2 wks. He lost 4-5 pounds and didn't eat, drink, diarreah and fever.
The vomiting is a symptom of a throat infection which I had my suspecions since he wasn't vomiting all the time.
Thank god now he is back to him self and playing, eating again.
It was pretty bad though and VERY scarey.

Call your doctor. A fever and stiff neck could be a sign of more than just a virus. It doesn't hurt to call and ask. Better safe than sorry.

I think there is definitely a virus going around right now. Both of my daughters were sick last week.
The main symptoms are high fever, neck/head aches and either diarrhea or vomiting. The good news is that it seems to only last for three days.
I would still call your pediatrician for support.

I don't know about the virus but where are you from in Boston? I've got a huge extended family there, mostly in Woburn. How long have you been in Texas? I agree, it is quite a change. You'll learn to love it though!
There is something going around -- my 2yo had a fever for a day but was fine after that. However, if your daughter is complaining of neck pain (a stiff neck can be a symptom of meningitis) I would go ahead and take her in just to be on the safe side. I don't want to scare you but when you said she's complaining about her neck, that's the first thing I thought of.
