Is This a Hemorrhoid? Help!

Hi Moms,

I've had some minor issues with hemorrhoids on and off since having my 3 kids. Yesterday I discovered a hard(and somewhat big)lump in my nether-regions. It hurts, but not horribly, it seems to have come from nowhere. To me, it seems different than a hemorrhoid, so I'm freaking out (while waiting to hear back from my doc). Nothing seems to really make a difference -creams, wipes, suppositories. Can hemorrhoids feel hard to the touch? Any personal experiences?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Hi moms, I figured I would give an update in case anyone else goes through this. By 4am it doubled in size and pain. I went to the ER and was told I had a very impressive hemorrhoid. It is partially thrombosed and this type gets worse before it gets better-hence the doubling in size. As most of you stated, creams and lotions will not help much. Warm baths and time are my only answers. If it get's worse, then they will look into doing something surgical. For now, let's hope it get's better on its own. The doc said his own wife just went through this and it can come out of no where even if you had no problems leading up to it. Ouch. thanks for all your responses. I hope this post helps someone else out who may unfortunately experience something similar.

**update: pain got worse, went back to ER. Diagnosed with perirectal abcess. They lanced it to drain it. I also developed the inability to pee. Had catheter for 2 days. NIghtmare! I saw surgeon 2 days later, removed the catheter. The wound is healing but too soon to see if I'll need more outpatient surgery. I am peeing, but not great and super bloated. The reason I could not pee is because of very bad swelling in my whole pelvic area as a result of he abcess. Just wanted to update in case others have something similar. I hope you can find some answers through my experience.

I've had them where you can feel a lump inside.... I think that is maybe a blood clot in it?

Yep...

"External hemorrhoids

External hemorrhoids can get irritated and clot under the skin, causing a hard painful lump. This is called a thrombosed, or clotted, hemorrhoid."

The doctor will tell you - try to be patient.
My M. had some removed years ago.
The doctor tightly tied a string around each pile cutting off the blood supply.
Then it was just a matter of waiting till they fell off.
M. said it itched horribly for awhile (for about a week) but once gone there where no problems and the healing was all done.

M.,

I know that's hard! Having babies wreaks havoc on our bodies!!

I would wait to see what the doctor says. If it starts bleeding - put a sanitary pad on - if you bleed through that in one hour - go to the emergency room - just like you would for vaginal bleeding.

You might be using too much stuff on it. I would stop and just keep it clean. Make sure you are eating foods that will keep your bowel movements soft if it's near your anus...which I'm assuming it is. If it's NOT near your anus - then I would see the urgent care fast....

Good luck!

Since it hurts, I'm thinking more positively. Like it could be an internal hemorrhoid.

Stay positive.

After SWH: you poor thing! The things that happen to us..shakes head.

Probably nothing to freak out about, just see your dr. If you're worried about cancer, it's not cancer.

yup, sounds like a 'rhoid. and the best ointments in the world have only a limited effect. be gentle with your nether regions, use prep H, and take homeopathic aesculus hippocastanum or HEEL.
sorry, hon!
