T.N.
Frances is a girl's name. Francis is a boy's name (like my father's first and my brother's middle name).
If you look long enough, maybe you'll find a Michael. Also 7 letters.
But overall, I think you're way overthinking it!
:)
Trying to come up with a 7 letter 'family' middle name for our 3rd boy due in 3 months. We still haven't narrowed down the first name either, but really there's only 3 choices, and it depends really what he looks like on what name we decide on (or maybe I'll just draw out of a hat, at this point j/k)
My two older boys have a family members name as their middle name, both of which are 7 letters. I would like to keep it the same but really there is only one seven letter male name left in the family, and unfortunately not someone I was close with or even saw as much of a role model (actually really not a role mode at all) and I'm just not feeling the name (Frances)
So I thought I could combine my dad's first name (Kenneth) with my Mom, FIL & Grandfather in law's middle name (Lee) and came up with either a two name middle name, Kent Lee, or combine it as Kentlee. My only concern is that it sounds feminine and looks feminine when combined as Kentlee. I don't think it looks feminine as Kent Lee, but thought I'd get your opinions?
Thoughts?
yes--this is for his middle name--sorry 'bout the confusion...& I would LOVE to just use Kenneth but it doesn't flow with ANY firstname my hubby and I can agree on. Names are so important and so hard to come up with too!
--------
Thanks ladies--kind of what I was thinking anyway. I think we'll start looking for a name that we just like that's 7 letters.
I'm personally leaning towards Charles. My hubby came home and threw out the name Emerick (my SIL's name is Emily and I was trying to find the masculine name for it, and my FIL goes by "Rick" so it works)--just haven't really heard the name--has a nice ring to me right now?
I'm not really worried about using the middle name either, all the kids have long first names (we have a horribly common short last name (think Smith) and they all use their shorten Nickname and when in trouble I shout their full name--excluding their middle name because its a mouth full!! We just want a meaningful family middle name. And for both of us our family for some reason used really unique names or are people we don't want to really honor, even tho' they're family, bad I know (just is)...
---------------
Update: I think Emerick will be it--at least for the moment, I'm really liking it!! and it goes perfectly with all three 1st names we have picked out! Finally---yay!

Francis is either male or female. I have a good friend named Michael Francis _____. I dont think it sounds girly at all. It's a strong, catholic name really.
Kentlee sounds like a new-fad girls' name to me. Sorry. I think Kenneth is very pretty, unless the first name you are considering also starts with a K, it seems to flow pretty well with most names in my head. Good luck.
I agree. If you don't like Frances, then I don't see KentLee, either. What about bucking the "tradition" and just going with a name you like or look at surnames and middle names? My DH and his brother both have family maiden names as middle names. Or look farther back in the family tree for names? Or you could give him an extra name and have it be TBD Kenneth Lee Lastname. Or what about Kenneth Lee Lastname?
I would do Frances over KentLee or Kent Lee. I do not care for double names for boys. If you want a family name, get out your family tree. There were some good ones in my husband's family. Wolfgang, Ivan, Arthur, David, Adolph, they are German!
Our daughter is names after my mother and MIL. Our son is a Junior. Good luck and congrats on your little boy.
Sounds more feminine to me.... Especially since it has the k/lee/la sounds that so many girls have right now like Kaylee, Makayla, Caycee, Kealy ...
I love the idea of using family names and similar naming methods for each child, but at the same time, don't let those self proposed rules back you into a corner if you don't really love or 'feel' the name.
I like Kenneth Lee.
It sounds feminine to me. How about Kentton? or Kenneth? Good luck with your decision!
I think Kent Lee is masculine, but Kentlee is feminine.
What about Kentley? I may be biased though because I already know a male Kenley so "Kentley" wasn't a big stretch in my mind. :)
If you're really worried about masculine/feminine, though, would you consider sticking with just Kenneth? Or is it important to you to have the Lee in there?
I dont' particularly enjoy it...
I come up with Lenneth (lee+kenneth) and I think it is boyish and a nice sounding name.
but that probably doesn't go well with the first names either..
Good luck.
I hear you on the seven letter thing...we have a fun thing with our kids names that is very unique also.
Kentlee does sound feminine, in my opinion.
When I hear Kentlee, i think I would think of a girl.
But then I know boy and girl Tyler's, Jordan's and one other that I can't think of right now.
I like what you are trying to do!! We used family names for middle names.
I don't like the combined spelling. I do think it's more like a girls spelling. But Kent Lee sounds fine. That's my opinion. Or Kenneth Lee sounds nice too.
Kentlee sounds like a girls name...sorry. However, I like Frances. It's my father in laws middle name. But if you don't like the name or feel anything towards the namesake, don't use it. I guess if it were me I'd look for a name I liked, with a special meaning...which will mean more than making sure each child has a 7 letter middle name from family. I hope you find the perfect name!
We're talking middle names right?
I would use Kent Lee.
I don't see any problems w/ it.
HTH!
Just a fyi...I hyphenated my kids double middle names to avoid the whole 2 middle initial drama...if that is a concern of yours. Has never been a problem.
Yes...Kentlee looks feminine to me.
Kent Lee does not look it, but when I said it out loud, it did!
Written, Kentlee looks feminine.
What about Kentley?
What about Lee Kenneth?
How about Kent Finalee :)
no why does it have to be 7 letters? that seems a bit extreme to me.
Anyway ,
Just look at your family tree, you may need to go back further than one or two steps.
Also look at other forms of the names you want to use.
For example , My father in law's name is John. To incorporate his name into my son's we used Ian , which is the greek form of John , I didn't like just "John" . So I looked it up in a baby book, and other looked up other forms of the name.
Kentlee reads like a girls name.
I don't like Frances at all so it's great you're not considering it. LOVE Kent but with another second name, however if you do use Kent Lee it doesn't sound like a girl's name to me.
Also I agree with you that Kentlee together sounds like a girls name.
Forget the 7 letters and just pick names you like with the 1st name possibilities. Honestly, when you start with "rules" for names, you just make choosing impossible.
sorry, very feminine and don't love it.
I don't think it looks feminine but to me it doesn't look like A name either. It looks like you are trying to force two words together (I personally don't like Kent as a name....except when it's a last name which you don't really pick anyway). You don't say what the first name options are or even what your other sons' names are so it is hard for us to say.
I do like a few 7 letter names...Michael, Charles, Matthew. Specifically Michael Andrew, Matthew Charles, and Matthew James.
They may not fit what you were looking for but that's my bit of in put.
It sounds like how they say serial killer's names on the news. Seems like the middle name is always LEE for some reason.
Back to the drawing board I guess.
Use a hyphen between Kent and Lee...Kent-Lee. That'll take care of it!
My nephews' name is Dutch Scott-Anthony Raynor.
She may end up with the nickname Kent...something to consider.
Close friends of mine have a 2 year old son named Emerick. It's a great name, I think!
Oooh - definitely digging Emerick!!!!!! Kent Lee - not so much. :)
I may be wrong - but isn't Kenneth a 7 letter name? ;)
It's a middle name and never said unless the kid is in trouble or graduating from high school. In that case, it will be run together. Practice yelling it. ______ Kentlee Smith, get your butt in here. _________ Kent Lee Smith get your butt in here. See it will always be run together when you are yealling at him. And there are not 4 name spaces on legal forms and a middle name with a space in it is going to confude people.
