My daughter is just like this. I have to lay her on her stomach or she will just scream. They say not to allow them to lay on their stomach but I have been told if they are moving their head then there is no harm.

Yes, it is ok :-) No need to wake her up. My daughter did the same thing. The only thing extra I did was to put diaper cream on to keep rash away because she was going through the night without a diaper change. She is early for rolling over but my doctor told me if they can roll that they are strong enough to greatly reduce SIDS but to continue to put them down on their back and keep blankets and stuffed animals out of the crib. Good luck with everything! The first couple of months are tough but it gets easier :-)

Hi S.
It's good she's sleeping through the night. I don't suggest you wake her, but I do suggest you buy a sleep positioner to prevent her from rolling over. If this prevents her from sleeping through the night, you could try using a movement sensor. Good luck.

My daughter did the same thing. My doctor told me as long as she is gaining the weight like normal that it is ok. As far as her rolling just make sure there arent a lot of fluffy blankets around her and she should be fine.

My 4 month old started doing this as well within her first month. She only sleeps on her stomach and will roll over if we try and put her on her back. My pediatrician told me to "feed on demand", so if they aren't demanding in the middle of the night then don't wake them. You don't want to start any habits of waking her in the night only to regret it later. I would say check with your pediatrician if you are worried because preemies and those "failing to thrive" need to be fed by schedule because those babies normally don't wake when hungry. But if your baby is growing normally and is happier on her stomach then just let her sleep. You will be the envy of all new moms!

That is fine. Babies will let you know when they are hungry. If she is sleeping, you sleep too and enjoy it! My first daughter only sleept on her stomach from they day she popped out. I asked her pediatrician about it and she said, "Are you sleeping?". I was like yea, she then said "That is all that matters." I hope this helps and good luck!

It's good that she sleeps through the night but babies are supposed to sleep 12 hours a night. my daughter started sleeping through the night early on but she was sleeping from about 9 pm to 9 am. i would just try to put her to sleep about 30 min early week by week until she is sleeping closer to 12 hrs aq night. thats what i did.

Wow, that's young to be sleeping through the night. I have a 4mth old, and she's still not doing that!! LOL I am a breastfeeding mother, so she only sleeps for about 4hrs at a time during the night. Anyway, the only concern I would have is her eating. How is her diet during the day? Do you breastfeed or bottle feed? Bottle fed babies will sleep longer than breastfed babies. But, I would talk with your Ped. about it, just to get thier opinion on it. They may or may not want you to wake her up at least once during the night to eat. As for her rolling around. I bought my daughter one of those sleep postioners, where u can put her in the middle and it has these wedges that u can velcro on both sides of her so she cant go onto her tummy. You can make it as snug or as lose as you want. I bought my at babies r us. I've used them for all of my kids, I have three. It works great. I'm still using mine for my 4mth old. Anyway, congrats on your baby!!!

I had the same concerns except my daughter would sleep around 10-12 hours right off the bat. However she didn't sleep much during the day. My ped said it was ok as long as she was eating good through the day. And she never slept on her back she would have stomach issues when she did so she has always slept on her side or stomach.

Different Dr will say you should wake them up and feed them. However I believe you should never wake a sleeping baby unless it is in an instance of the baby has a head injury. I have a son that is almost three now and he has always slept for 10 to 12 hrs through the night and I refused to wake him up. If he is hungry or needed anything he would wake up and let me know. So it's up to how you want to raise your child. I didn't wake him up because I didn't want it to become a habit for him to get up every night. Good luck.

Girl, you are sitting pretty! It's fine if she's not getting up in the middle of the night. Just praise the Lord that she sleeps this well!! About the turning, if she can lift her head she should be fine. If you are truly worried about it you can buy a doohicky to keep her on her side. I can't remember what the name of the things are, but they have two rounded, cylindrical triangles attached to each other with a piece of fabric. You put your baby on her side in between the triangles and they hold her in place so she can't roll onto her belly. It'll only work until she's about three or four months old, but it will keep her from sleeping face down. Hope this helps!!

Hello Sam,
Everything is fine with your baby. My one month old is doing the same thing. Her Pediatrician said if she is sleeping through the night, lucky you. I ask "dont I need to wake her to feed her through the night", the pediatrician said no. My baby also rolls onto her stomach/sides when she sleeps and my two year old wouldnt sleep any other way when he was smaller. I know they say back is best but when they roll themselves over what are you going to do. I wake up several times a night anyway, just to check her, and every time she is fine. I hope my insight helps.
Lots of Luck,

Hi S.!
My baby was the same way when she was small. Went to bed later and slept thru the night. (more than 6 hours consecutivly) I never woke her up to eat. I didnt want to wake a sleeping baby!! There were some nights when she woke up and was hungry and other nights where she didnt stir. I think ever baby is different, because they are all people too! Everyone sleeps differently. As far as for her rolling on her tummy, thats a hard habit to break. My baby didnt do that until she was older (6months) and could roll herself back and forth. I know that they say SIDS, but if your baby is rolling over by her self, then i would always check on her, but dont try to roll her onto her back when shes already sleeping if it would wake her. But always put her to bed on her back. Theres only so much you can do! Hope this helps

I have three children, they are 8, 5 and 11 weeks. All three of mine have always slept through the night any where from 6-10 hours at a time. I don't think you need to wake your baby up but I wouldn't let her sleep on her stomach because I have always heard they can suffocate when they are that little on there bellies, I think the side is fine just not the stomach. I hope this helps.

I had to giggle at this b/c my now 9 month old has also slept through the night since he was less than a month old and goes to bed at 6-7 and wakes up at the same time in the morning. I just have to make sure that I feed him before I do anything else b/c if I get him out of his bed and sit him somewhere he cries to be fed but if I don't mess with him he'll lay in his bed for hours awake just playing with his toys. I usually make him a bottle before I go get him. You have no reason to be concerned, be happy ur baby is that easy during sleep time. With my first he woke up every 3 hours on the exact time no matter day or night and even as he got older I had to hold him or lay next to him to hold his hand to get him to sleep so just be thankful he gives u that break during the night already.

Hi S.. Why would you want to wake her up?? She is sleeping, and trust me, that is a beautiful thing. It stinks when your babie is up at night and won't sleep!! Both of my girls did this, and they are normal, happy healthy little girls! They also had a hard time sleeping on their backs, my youngest would only sleep on her side, never her back. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Hi S.-as long as she is eating well and gaining weight then let her make her own schedule. My daughter Sully was sleeping through the night right from the beginning. If you are really worried about her rolling over you can put a rolled up towel on both sides of her to keep her stationary. I let Sully sleep on her stomach after I figured out that was the only way she would sleep. To this day she curls up and sleeps on her stomach and she's going to be 2 in July.

Yes. My son starting sleeping the same hours within 7 days. My daughter within 2 weeks. There is a book that i read that was on scheduling. I just noticed that if my babies were good and feed they didnt feel the need to wake up. They are 4 and 2 now. The stomach sleeping thing is okay too. Is it weird that she is able to at one month to roll to her stomach but both of my kids from about 4 months on have slept on their stomach. I gave up trying to flip them over. Keep blankets and toys out of the bed for a few months. You may want to try a positional sleeper for a few months until she is strong enough to move it, if you are still worried. It kept my kids still for a few months until i felt better about them being bigger.

Be thankful that she sleeps through the night! There's no need to wake her up- babies generally develop their own sleep schedules. As long as she is eating well during the day and growing normally- I would not worry.

As far as how she sleeps, I suggest always putting her down on her back. If she rolls to her side or stomach- no problem. Once babies can roll over, it isn’t necessary to put them back in the original position.

If it still makes you nervous, you can buy a sleep positioner. It basically has a wedge in front and back and keeps them from rolling over.

My oldest started sleeping through the night at 4 weeks, my husband would put him to bed about 11pm and I would get up to feed him at 7am. My midwife told me to NEVER wake a sleeping child, so I never did :-) Thank goodness! Both of my boys slept on their backs and they are now healthy and busy 4 and 5 year old boys. If you can get her to sleep on her side until she's about 3-4 month old she should be fine to sleep on her back after that. I know there are concerns about SIDs but up until 6 years ago they told you to put them on their backs.

First of all, you're a good mom! I teach a newborn care class and I can tell you that if a baby is sleeping through the night, COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS! Get the rest you need and deserve. Also, if a newborn rolls over on his/her own, then the baby is considered mature enough to handle sleeping that way. Just keep putting your baby to sleep on her back and if she rolls over during her "marathon nap" then it's okay. You can check out www.aap.org for the American Academy of Pediatrics view on sleeping.

Good luck!

Hi S.. When my son was 1 month old he wanted to sleep all through the night, but the pediatrician told me and my husband to be sure to wake him at the very least every 3-4 hours to have a feeding. When he was first born he didn't want to wake up at all to eat, and at that time he was supposed to wake every 2 hours to eat. As he got older he woke on his own when he was hungry to eat, but in the beginning it's best to be your baby's guide.

Hi! I'll add to the other comments. I have a little one also. He is 16mths old. since he was about 16weeks old he slept through the night. He goes to sleep now at 9 pm and sleeps till 7am. I thought this was very strange. So i asked the doc and he said it was fine. I'm also a first time mom and am very nervous about everything. I have my little one eating 3 big meals a day and sleeping all night with no bottle. And he's doing great. Sounds like your little one is doing great too. If you can get the sleep, take advantage of it. Enjoy it!!

Is it ok? I think it is wonderful! I would NOT wake her up. Some babies just mature a little earlier. I have even heard of babies who sleep through the night from the very beginning. According to my grandmother, my mother did that.

As far as the sleeping position goes, you have a strong baby to be flipping so early. I have a 2 year old and an 8month old. I started the two year old out on his back because of all the hype about SIDS, but I realized that he really preferred his stomach and slept so much better that way. So, about one month I started putting him on his stomach after I had done a little research of my own. There are doctors out there who don't agree with the back to sleep program (See Dr. Leila Denmark) and I myself find the logic behind the research to be faulty. I never put my 8 month old little girl on her back to sleep. This is a personal choice that you have to make as a mom, but I would encourage you to read up on it instead of just taking the doctor's word as the final truth. Medical opinion changes just about as much as clothing fads. If she is flipping to her sides or stomach, she must prefer to sleep that way. Just make sure that the sheets are tight and there aren't any blankets or stuffed animals that she could snuggle into and suffocate.

Good Luck!

My daughter started sleeping through the night when she was about a month old and believe me, take it as a blessing!!!! If she gets hungry she will wake up. If she seems to be eating fine when she is awake and seems to be fine otherwise, then I would just enjoy the sleep. The rolling over thing I am not so sure of. I used a wedge for the first couple of months with my daughter until she starting scooting up and out of it in her sleep. As long as you put her to sleep on her back, I think that rolling over on her own won't harm her.

Let that baby sleep!! And enjoy the rest yourself! As far as the sleeping on her back it is understood that it is very important to make her sleep on her back to reduce the chances of SIDS as I am sure your aware of and to make sure she does there are what I call "cones" but alls it is is 2 little pillows that velcrow to your childs size that she will lay inbetween that will keep her stationary they are sold everywhere and I swear by them I have 6 kids and I used them with all of my kids. But seriously take advantage of her sleeping through the night cause it could change and well thats no fun!! Good luck

Well take if from a mom of a 2yo who still doesn't sleep well tons of women are so envious of you right now it's coming out their ears(me included)!!!:)lol Relax and just know that she'll wake you if she's hungry and if not then say a little thank you prayer for such a wonderful sleeping child:)lol. If you're worried about she sleeping on her stomach invest in one of those sleeping wedges. I lost a nephew to SIDS so i'm a little freaked out about that particular sleeping position now. But my oldest son slept on his stomach on a pillow and that's the only way he'd sleep. My middle one eventually wanted to be that way and my youngest has been on his stomach since he was 6mos old. Now go enjoy that beautiful new angel and remember to take care of yourself too!!:)

wow. can can already roll herself over? neither of my boys could do that for a few months. if your baby is rolling herself over then, unless you want to stand guard all night, you should just let her sleep however is comfortable for her. the sleeping through the night is great! lucky you! as she gets bigger she may start to wake up more, then again maybe not. if you feed her right before she goes down and as soon as she wakes up i think that you're ok. check with your doctor though, the nurses at your office should have a question line.

Hi S.,
Looks like you've already got some good advice....I'll just share my experience: With my youngest (who's now 2), she slept through the night almost immediately. I too did not want to wake a sleeping baby. My doctor told me that as long as I fed her right before bedtime that it was fine...as long as it was no more than 10hrs.(I think) As far as sleeping on her stomach, mine did the same thing, I however was worried about SIDS, so I got one of those hard pillows that have the arch for babies backs and I put it on her side so that if she did start to roll, she could only go to her side, not all the way to her stomach. Hope this helps some.....be very grateful for the sleeping thru the night, I've had it both ways, and the one who slept thru the night was so much easier!!

My husband's first child slept 12 hours straight from the time they brought her home from the hospital (7 at night to 7 in the morning)! We have not been quite that fortunate with our 2.
It is okay that she doesn't sleep all night on her back. If she can roll herself over that is great. Just make sure the sheets are tight and that there are no toys in the bed and all should be good :)

I honestly say that it is fine, as long as shes sleeping, I've even had family tell me with my kids, if they are sleeping why wake them up. But when she does wake up make sure to feed her right away. As for her sleeping on her side and or her stomach, I honestly would get one of those padded things they lay in between and prop her up on her side untill shes a little bit older, if she doesnt like to sleep on her back. Well I hope I was able to help.. Take care and good luck!
