B..
Yep, wives tale. I get the hiccups ALL the time. (Daily.) I'm 5'4 and 98 pounds. I kinda prove that tale wrong ;)
My granddmother used to always say that if you had the hiccups it meant you were growing and since having children of my own I have heard it from quite a few people other than my Grandmother. If this is true then why do older ppl get the hiccups too? Obviously Drs would have already determined if it were linked to growing and Im pretty certain that hiccups are caused from air getting into your stomach thru inproper breathing and in a newborns case - swallowing air while feeding but have you all heard this wives tale and do YOU believe it truly has any connection to growing?

Hiccups are caused by muscle spasms in the diaphragm, which is caused by a variety of things. Slowing your breathing will help stop them, as will a little bit of sugar.
It is definitely an old wives tale and one I had never heard before.
I never heard of that one.
Hiccups are an involuntary spasm of the diaphragm (what makes you breathe in and out like a bellows).
Sometimes a surprise or a long drink of water can disrupt the spasm long enough to get out of the cycle.
Many babies have hiccups before they are born (Mom can feel them).
Never heard that O.!
Holy moly! If that were true I would be HUGE! Hahahahahahaha
yeah it's an old wives tale .
I still tell it to my kids cause it's a fun one.
Here's a cute article for you

What a cute old wive's tale. Never heard that one before.
I never heard that one! My children all had hiccups before they were born, and did that ever feel funny.
Since we've been raising puppies for Canine Companions for Independence, I've noticed that a very young puppy who has hiccups falls asleep very shortly thereafter. Connection? Maybe. But I don't think that applies to children!
Actually, I read in a science journal several years ago the the hiccups are believed to have something to do with your diet, and also with your genetics. ^_^
