I also loved The Book Thief...just got done reading it...it is a heavy read, but really great book!

Last year of all the books I read, Unbroken was my favorite. Also heavy, but very inspiring!

For something funny, I loved Bossypants by Tina Fey.

Also, for something funny and light I would recommend the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich.

The best I've read recently are a bit heavy. If your idea of a good time is a good book and a box of tissues, I would recommend "The Fault in Our Stars" and "The Book Thief."

I also just read "Maine," which was a bit lighter and quite good.

If you like books that make you reconsider everything you know, Malcolm Gladwell's books are great for that. I finished "David & Goliath" a few weeks ago and am on "Outliers" now.

Oh and "The Midwife" (which the PBS series "Call the Midwife" is based on) was a riveting read.

Did you read "Gone Girl" already? If not, that was good as well but was pretty dark and twisted.

Where's the trip to? Have fun!

I'm currently loving Jane Maas's "Mad Women- The other side of life on Madison Avenue in the 60s and beyond". It's sort of a reflection on the 'mad men' era of advertising from the perspective of a woman who was there. Nonfiction, great, fun read. The woman is in her 80s now and has some fun stories to share.

What do you like?

Historical fantasy- Mists of Avalon, Iron Druid series
Historical romance- Outlander
Vampire smut- Black Dagger Brotherhood series or Dark Hunter series
Little fantasy, lots of history, thought-provoking- Discovery of Witches
More literary- I Know This Much is True, Like Water for Chocolate
Chick-lit- Garden Spells,
Horror- The Shining followed immediately by Doctor Sleep, or pretty much anything by Stephen King. The Dark Tower series is awesome.
I could go on all night!!

This is not a page-turner, but it was absolutely fascinating, and immaculately researched. Cleopatra: A Life, by Stacy Schiff. I didn't expect it to be as wonderful as it was - however it is not light reading. Still, if you like biographies, this one is as good as it gets.

I really enjoyed the black daggar brotherhood series but there are 20 books and I got hooked so I had to read all of them. Like another poster said its vampire smut but there is a good story in there too. I read the divergent series and I enjoyed them, they are an easy read but pretty good. I didn't like the book theif at all but thats just my opinion. I've heard either you love it or hate it. Karen Cantwell has some pretty good books (silenced by the yams, take the monkeys and run, and citizen insane. There are more but I havent read them) Janet Evanovich is great. There is another great little series that is an easy read too that I really got into by Gillian Summers is the Tree Shepards Daughter.

If you enjoyed the 50 Shades Of Grey series, you would also enjoy 'The Submissive' series by Tara Sue Me. In my opinion this one is better.

Consequences by Aleatha Romig is also really good

I've enjoyed several books by Johanna Lindsey. Prisoner Of My Desire is good!

Otherwise, a wonderful un-published author is "Airam". You can find her works on www.wattpad.com All of her books are wonderful and she has something for everyone - Historical romance, fantasy romance, drama romance, royal romance... It's all there and it's all great! Oh, and her books are free :)
