Hello, I was looking at the IUD's like ParaGard or Mirena and was wondering if anyone was using them and if you were happy with them. Any good or bad experience?
Thank you

I've had my Mirena since last October and I love it! The first 2 months I had spotting pretty much every day, but then it went away. I now get my period every month. I have cramping and back pain for one day and bleeding for one day and then I am done. Much better then what I used to have, and I love not having to worry about birth control. Good luck!

I have had the ParaGard for a year and a half and I love it. It was not nearly as painful to have it put in as I thought it would be and I LOVE that there are no hormones. I will say that my periods did change. For about a year or a little more I had more cramping that I did before and my periods are longer and heavier. The cramping went away but my periods are still longer and heavier. But for me it's totally worth it. Even when the cramping was more it was nothing a couple of advil didn't take care of. I don't have to remember to take a pill- we didn't do anything permenant and again I stress my body is running the way it was made too- with only my own hormones. Everyone's body is different but I will say- think about this. If your doctor puts you on the pill and it's not the right level of hormones then he just changes your pill but if you have the Mirena put in and it's not the right level of hormones you'll have to have it removed. I don't think anything that releases hormones into your system should be a one-size fits all kind of thing. Good luck!

This is my second round with Mirena and I like it too. The first few months can be kinda sucky with sporatic or constant bleeding but after about 2-3 months my periods disappear completely.

I have had the Mirena IUD since April and I absolutely love it. I have not experienced any of the possible side effects. I stopped bleeding after about 2 months and during those 2 months it was only slight spotting. I experienced some cramping when it was placed but not anything worse then menstrual cramps I would get.

I am very sensitive to hormones and hormonal birth control methods i.e. the pill, patch, etc. I tried Mirena last winter to see if maybe it would be the one that worked for me. It did not, and I was very emotionally "off", lots of weight gain (my weight never really fluctuates), and tiredness. It felt like pregnancy. I got it removed after a month or so.

On a positive note, we inadvertantly got pregnant with our second child within a month of having it removed (if that is something that you are concerned about).

Upon doing my own research it seems like some people have very negative experiences with it, but many more are just fine with it. Good luck!

I have the Mirena, I love it. The first few days were HELL, it made me wonder if it was worth it. A little over 1 year later, yes it was. If you want to know more let me know I will be happy to help

I love the Mirena!! I've had mine for 4 1/2 years with no problems. And no pregnancies :)

I have used the no-hormone, copper IUD and LOVED it! I can't do hormones, I flip out. My friend knew how happy I was with the IUD and she is now using the one more like what you're talking about with hormones. She LOVES it! (FYI: Hormone ones are 5 year and the copper ones go for 10 years)

Now, on the other hand, one of my postpartum nurses after my last baby told me how she got pregnant while her IUD was in place and that does happen, to some.

I have the ParaGard and really like it! I didn't want hormones, but with it I do have longer periods. Before they lasted about 4 days, now it's 6. I had mine put in in December. I also had spotting in between periods that lasted for a few days, so it seemed like I had my period every 2 weeks. That went on for 3 months, but is done now. I am just happy I don't have to remember to take a pill, and it lasts for so long! I have no other side effects and I never had bad cramps with my periods and still don't!

I have the paragard. I did not want my tubes tied at this point but do not want another child at this point. I did not want to be on the pills any longer. I have had it since May and I like it. The cramps went away cycle but I am bleeding a little heavier. A few aleve's and I am fine if needed. I am so glad I do not have to remember if I took my pill or not. Be aware it will be about $500 and most insurance companies do not pay for it,even if medically necessary. If you look at the long term costs it is worth it since it lasts 10 years and the mirena only lasts 5.

I use the Mirena. I like it. It is better then taking the pill or any other birth control as far as I am concerned. I have had mine for about a year and I am just now starting to get lesser and lesser periods. It was hard in the beginning because I bled A LOT and I couldn't quite get the strings to be comfortable but now I think it was worth it. Good Luck!
