I've Decreased Caffeine from 6 Drinks per Day to 1/2 of a Cup of Caffeine =)

It's taken a VERY scary period of anxiety for me to finally, seriously decrease my caffeine intake. Holy cow, what was I thinking drinking that much caffeine with a history of anxiety?!??! I'm on my third day and I'm doing just fine =)

I love when doctors offer great advice and it's even better when people are ready to hear it! I was so ready =) No headaches so far from the caffeine reduction--just moving in the right direction!

Anyone else cut down on caffeine?

What can I do next?

Good for you! With issues you've posted about on this site, the decrease in caffiene shoukd really help you.

No I haven't cut down on caffiene because I rarely drink something with caffiene. I do not drink coffee or sodas but I do enjoy iced tea and Starbucks refreshers occasionally.

My drink of choice is water, plain, with lemon, or fruit infused. I go through cases of water as well as filtered water from my fridge.

Again, good for you to recognize the issue and take action!!

Let us know if you really notice a significant decrease in your anxiety over time. I'd be interested to hear.

I get pretty jittery and feel kind of sick to stomach if I drink too much. I like it (like Jill, I'm protectively holding my mug of tea) but in moderation.

Keep us posted. And good for you :)

Nope, but I'm glad it is helping with your anxiety. :-)

For caffeinated things, I drink coffee daily (made at home) and sometimes tea. The very rare times that I drink a soda it's a clear and uncaffinated type. Mostly I drink water.

I'm impressed that you don't have headaches. If I drink coffee every day for a week, I'm hooked. I will have the headache from hell for a full day with no respite if I miss a cup of joe one morning.

So, I don't drink coffee every day. Sometimes I don't drink it for weeks. Sad too, because I like it.

I hope it really makes a big difference in your anxiety, I really do!

I max out at two cups of tea a day, so, no.

My Mom cut it out entirely when she found a lump in her breast - turns out it was harmless but the caffeine was making that sort of issue worse so her doctor said no more caffeine for her and she's had no more lump issues.
I've cut back because my bladder is more sensitive to it than it use to be.
I have 1 cup of coffee in the morning but I need to be near a bathroom an hour later.
Also if I have caffeine after noon then I'll be up all night.
There are lots of good reasons for cutting back on it.
I think we should keep an eye on how much the kids are getting.
A lot of it isn't any good for them either.

Good for you!
I gave it up entirely when pregnant with my first and never saw a good reason to go back to it. So I've been mostly caffeine free for more than 10 years. It wasn't too hard for me since I don't drink coffee. I switched to herbal tea for my morning drink instead of black tea. I have never been a big soda drinker, but if I have one, it's Sprite.

I do very occasionally have a drink with caffeine, but I'm very sensitive to it now. It makes me jittery and interferes with my sleep if I have it after noon. So be careful that once you cut it out (yay good for you!) you may need to keep it out.

It's sort of happened naturally with age. In my twenties I often drank a few cups of coffee in the morning and a few more in the afternoon, or maybe iced tea. I find now (at 48) that a cup in the morning is plenty, and every now and then I'll have one later in the day, but not often because I find it makes me speedy and jittery (and not in a good way lol!)

I did once. My hubby's sister and her hubby were visiting and they only drink decaf so I bought a bag of expensive decaf (the same brand I always drink) which went over very well. Fast forward to the following day and I made coffee for myself. Had a headache all day and felt miserable. Same the next day. Didn't catch on until the 3rd day that I was using the decaf in error. Back to regular coffee and wham no headache.

No anxiety issues, but I've cut back from two pots of coffee a day to half a pot on weekdays and one pot on weekends, just because good coffee is expensive.

good for you!!

in college....it was pots and pots....especially in grad school. but!!! the older I get the less tolerance I have for caffeine. I have one cup in the morning and then one 12 oz can of diet pepsi at lunch which I tend not to finish. cutting back on the coffee has been so much easier than cutting back on the diet pepsi....but that aspartame was causing serious insomnia...who knew it was a stimulant that builds up in your CSF and causes long term issues like insomnia..... sigh.....

congratulations on your health move. keep it up...I'm sure you'll reap the benefits. S.

Yes, I cut it by choice when pregnant with our first child, thinking he'd be calmer. Ha! He has severe ADHD. Second time I gave it up entirely was on doctor's orders. I have IBS-D and caffeine and coffee (too acidic, even in decaf) are big no-nos. Even tea is out for me.

I miss coffee so much! I don't care what they say, but exercise and drinking water don't provide the perk-me-up I used to get from coffee. However, I have such a negative association with coffee now that I'm not tempted, because I know I'll get sick. I am the crazy woman who inhales coffee fumes any time she's near a cup, though!

You're very fortunate you didn't get the withdrawl headache. I had it really bad both times and it was no fun.
