Jff-what Would You Do???

So my almost 8yr old son is having a friend stay over tonight. He doesn't have friends over often and just by listening to them, wide-awake giggling, I can see why!

This giggling brings back soooo many memories of me having sleep overs with my friends. I used to do the same thing, but, instead of my mom just sitting in the other room on the computer like I'm doing, she would be silly and do stuff like put on a gorilla mask and swing the bedroom door open, roaring out loud scaring us to death! At the time it really made me mad, but, I'm sorry, I just can't help but be tempted to do something similar. Now looking back at what my Mother did, I am laughing so hard at the memories she helped make. She was crazy, histerical, and really alot of fun! Totally nerdy and embarassing, but, alot of fun!

So what do ya'll think I should do? Should I go in and scare the kids or sit back and do nothing?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much Moms for your thoughts. I ended up not doing it b/c they were OUT w/in 10 minutes of this post. Also, I got to thinking...I wanted them to go to sleep and I think that scaring them would probably have kept them up longer. If we didn't have such a busy the next day I may have done it. But, after reading all of your responses, I'm sure I will end up doing something silly like this at future sleepovers...probably when they are a few years older though.

I have horrible memories of my oldest brother sneaking out and then jumping up in the window with a scary mask and scaring me. I still to this day cant stand to have the drapes open after dark, and hate scary movies. I dont like the idea and see nothing funny about it.

If this is the first time that this friend has spent the night, I would not try to do that. He needs to feel more comfortable with you and your son and in your home. If he were to react really scared and told his parents, it might get around that you are a little weird and other parents might be reluctant to let their kids spend the night at your house. It might be funnier if the kids were older and were used to spending the night with you.

Do you know the other child well enough to be sure that, when you leap out with the gorilla mask or pantyhose stretched over your head, you won't scare him to tears? That happened to me - I never forgave the other mom, either!

I think that sounds horrible! Don't do it. I agree with the other answer who said that the other kid might not be OK with it, even if your son is.

My daddy came in one day in a total gorilla suit. It TOTALLY freaked my little sister out and she was screaming and crying. It was hilarious! Lol. Even though it almost scared her to death, she still loves hearing the story. Go for it! You'll be the cool, cooky, mama!

I had to reply. I would have totally done it. My husband plays with our girls like that and they enjoy it. He wore a batman mask once and my then 2 year old niece was there. When he jumped out of the bathroom, she screamed, cried and peed her panties. We totally laughed and laugh about it to this day. It made for a great laughable memory. I told my sister what happened afterwards and she had to laugh.

If you don't know the other kid well, I hope you didn't scare them... BUT, I'd totally do that to MY kids, MWAHAHAHA!!

I do remember having 2 friends sleep over one time, and my dad asked us over and over and over again to GO TO BED!!... finally, he came in and said 'Look ladies, if you go to sleep RIGHT THIS INSTANT, I'll make waffles with ice cream for breakfast'... We were out like a light, and dad kept his word :)

That's one thing I DO do, let kids load up on sugar, get crazy, then crash. Works. Every. Time ;)

Just do it. It's always fun to freak kids out. Makes the visit more memorable the kid stayin the night. And then his parents will think you are "crazed" ;).
