L.B.
I always get teased when I ask if we "taped" a particular show. We do not tape shows anymore, we "record" them digitally. Hmph!
I just reply another post and I wrote the word "disco".
I kind of feel oldish, I mean does any body has use that word in the past few years?
I think the "correct" term now is "club", but I think if I would have say that word to my mom back then: "mom, I am going to the club" my mom wouldn't have allow me, club to me still sound more wild then disco.
What other words have the time took away, letting us sound not cool in front of younger generations.
Is "cool" a cool word still?
=*)

I always say that I'm going to "tape" something - whether it be something on TV or my daughter's swim meet. I don't think I'll ever stop saying it! And speaking of cool, I still say something is "awesome." Is that lame?!
So when you mentioned "disco" I thought of Studio 54, LOL.
Grodie!
(not even sure if I spelled it right)
Video game. Rotary dial. Pay phone.
I use the term "dead as disco" lol
How about " groovy" I'm barely 30 but I still like to use it.
jiggy
fly
bomb
rad
word
neat
telephone
groovy
I said "gag me" to my kids the other day and they looked at me like I was actually going to throw up! Lol!
Jackie P. - I don't know the spelling either, but we said "Grodie to the max!" What did that even mean?
I think "cool" is still a cool word. The one that came to my mind was "far out."
I'm too old to play this game! LOL! I still remember telephone booths and having to get up to change the channel on the TV. I asked my daughter if she was taking typing! She looked at me and said Oh Mom you mean keyboarding!! I said, "Whatever!" In the requisite tone with an eye roll.... That is mostly out, no one talks to the hand any more.
I had big hair and bigger shoulder pads and leg warmers.... Those were the days.
.
My Grammy used to say "oh fiddle sticks". Now that's old time!
since computers the " @ " sign means "at". When I learned to type, it meant "each".....I think? Right? Good grief! Am I remembering that correctly?
& what's happened to shorthand? LOL
Oh, & "CC".....I was shredding/burning old documents recently. My son had never seen carbon copy/papers! I enjoyed smearing it on him!
Lead pencils are now graphite.
1st things were "hot", then "cold", & now.....?
& we had "smokin' "
That was my post :)
I agree with the record comment. I'm sure saying 8 track would really confuse people.
My SIL heard a 'kid' complaining and she said jokingly - here's a quarter, call someone who cares. Uh, yeah - kids have no real knowledge of pay phones!
Remember *69 before caller ID?
I don't know if this pertains as much to the USA, but after I have a wee, I "pull the chain" instead of flush. I still say it, and it is a throwback to when the toilet cistern was up high for gravity, and you would literally pull on the chain to flush.
Disco is still the common used word in europe and parts of south america!!! You just sound continental/ well traveled ;)
And, yeesh... I have a STBXH who is a musician, and a 9yo hacker. I've got slang and scene speak and 1337 speak and geekspeak and textspeak and britspeak coming out my ears.
have you said the word record to your kids? they will look at you like your nuts. I still say "oh I have that record" when what I mean is I have that cd but since I am 50 they were records when I was a kid. I will say record player and they still think I am nuts although they know what I am talking about lol.
Disco will always be cool!
gag me with a spoon. groovy, neat, gay (as in happy), record. Try explaining to your kids that MTV was really a music video channel!!!
The word Psych. Sorry I am a 90' baby so it was "the" word when i was growing up. And if cool isn't a cool word then I am not cool. :)
