Some friends and I were talking the other day about the plethora of subscription boxes. It came down to about 1/4 of the group gets one of some sort. I get a Grove box about every three months and Dollar Shave Club every other month.
What about you? I'm curious if you ladies get a box & if so what kind. Has it made your life easier? What do you wish came in a box?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for taking the time to answer! I understand the hesitation with auto-charges; the two that I've used have been great about pausing, shifting, or canceling subscriptions.
Akmom – that sounds cool. I have a friend who would adore something like that. Maybe a good gift for her!
Marda P. - Is Fred Meyers a grocery store? I've wondered about the meal prep boxes but it wouldn't make sense for our family. Also, I love Aldi & during the summer I work at our local Farmer's Market so have great access to fresh food!

I get Universal Yums, so each month I get a box of treats and snacks that are popular in another country. Last months theme was Russia. It has been a ton of fun getting to try so many new foods and reading about the different places and why certain treats are popular there :)

Be careful... daughter did BarkBox to a friend. At the end of subscription they keep charging card. I stopped fighting with them and credit card company took over.

Other than that.., I do Chewy.com auto ship for my dogs. Love it.

I guess that I am the subscription box queen. I’ve tried Ipsy for makeup. It was okay for samples. It came with a cute cosmetic bag but after a year, I was up to my ears and found that while I liked some things, many were useless. I now get a Fun, Fit, and Fabulous Box. It is $40 and comes every three months. It has full size products and includes things like a blanket, towel, or something for the home. I feel like I would spend that money for products anyway, so it doesn’t really cost me.

I’ve also used Zoe Box of Style which has accessories and products. I haven’t ended up using the items that much and it’s rather pricey. I’ve had trouble stopping the subscription.

I’ve tried Martha Stewart, Hello Fresh, Blue Apron, Gobble, Dinnerly, and Graze. I really enjoyed them. Blue Apron the most, then Hello Fresh. Dinnerly was for the birds and Gobble was over prepared and over priced for me. My husband protested and says that he will throw out any boxes of food that are delivered. He wants “real food.” (In other words, no veggies.)

I’ve also used clothing subscriptions but they are not for me. I don’t need that many clothes. Stitch fix was good for getting me out of my rut. I realized that almost everything in my closet was black and similarly styled. I used it for about a year.

i don't like auto-ship. i've had too much trouble in the past getting the charges to stop when i wanted them to.

we do get dollar shave club simply because they always notify beforehand and will pause a shipment without drama.

but that's it.

None. I tried out one of the meal planning ones (got a free try-out box) but wasn't impressed enough to subscribe. My husband looked into the shave clubs, but found that he could get what he needed less expensively at our local club discount store. My cat's food and litter are sold at my local grocery store so I just pick it up when I'm there for other stuff. All other things being equal (convenience and price are the same or lower), I prefer to purchase from local stores both because they are local and because I'm leery of auto-charges. A company has to really make it worth my while to give them my credit card authorization for auto-charges.

Fred Meyer is a grocery store, known as Kroger or QFC, in some places.

I tried 2 meal prep companies, each one for several weeks. The first one sent food already prepared. The second one sent ingredients and a recipe.
Mostly sauces, spices, and herbs were the only things premeasured
Still had to prep some of the ingredients. I could choose the meal but none were satisfying. . I stopped both companies. The first because the meals were not appetizing. The second because meals were complicated and taking longer than was helpful. All of the meals took an hour or more and weren't the style of food we enjoyed.

Recently, I discovered meals in boxes at Fred Meyers. The prices are better and
The meals are much easier to prepare. The recipe is a list with ingredients prepped and bagged. They cost around $20 and varies based on ingredients, and provide generous servings for two. I can pick up a box when I want, unlike the online ones which deliver on a set schedule.

I had the Shrimp Creole. It took about 15-20 minutes from start to serving. The rice was precooked and not the boxed kind. It was marked down to $9 and provided 2 generous sevings.

The first two providers did not make life easier.

I have not heard any great stories about the boxes "making life easier", at least not in my city with 24-hour drugstores and Amazon Prime and services like that. (The availability of that stuff is a big reason why I personally have not really considered getting any subscriptions.)

AKmom's snack box sounds like fun. I have relatives who enjoyed receiving Fruit of the Month boxes as a healthy treat until their lifestyle changed in ways that had them not eating at home as much and it was just too much for them to use.

None for me and I'm not at all curious or interested about it.
I like to be more involved the shopping/buying process - what I need and when I need it - rather than go with a what-ever-it-is of the month club.
