So, I asked a question yesterday and alot of the replies were to the tune of ''People seeing a show in Vegas''....Which got me thinking.....AM I THE LAST PERSON ON EARTH, TO HAVE NOT TRAVELED TO LAS VEGAS??
I have never been. I do not really have the desire to go. But even my little under aged Sister has been. WTH?
So what happened in Vegas, that does not have to stay in Vegas?? I want to read YOUR Vegas stories, so I can live through you.
If you have NEVER gone give why a shout out....Cause I know I am not the ONLY one who has no desire to go....Or do you and it just has not happened? What shows do you want to see, if you could??
Good one for a Friday!! No hard feelings Nevada....I just am not a flashy lights and noise type of girl:)
@Nellie.....New York, New Orleans(hurricane areas more specifically, I want to make a personal Photo collection) And I am ALWAYS up for any part of California. We would like to grow old in Northern Cali near a windy beach. I want the warm in the summer and the grey in the winter. Maybe a little snow here and there.

We have been to Vegas, and we ARE NOT gamblers. We are people watchers. It's like going to the biggest outdoor Walmart in the world, lol. It is also very inexpensive for what you get, food is cheap, hotels are cheap and airfare to there isn't that bad. It can be sensory overload, but like I said bang for the buck is pretty good.

Never been, no desire to go. I don't gamble, don't over-indulge in the alcohol/nightlife scene, and I think it's all kinda tacky. I'd probably have to burn my eyes out from what I'd see. ha ha. Just my 2 cents, but if others like it, enjoy! I'd rather spend my vacation in the Caribbean, Paris or even NYC. :)

I have never been to Vegas. Which seriously annoys me. When I tell people I get that look. You know, like when you tell someone you've never seen a common movie they love. "Whaaaat? You've NEVER seen Christmas Story? What's wrong with you?" You've NEVER been to Vegas?"
I've been promised several trips to Vegas, but they've never worked out. So, at some point I guess I'll get it done, but for now, I'll just watch Cirque De Soleil on PBS. ;)

Hubs and I have never been...we don't gamble, but I WOULD like to go someday, just to see it! It's def not on my top priorities...that would be Hawaii, or Italy! haha...like THAT'S ever gonna happen...schedule and money seem to be the issue! (we always take family vacations, though...so we are not totally deprived over here!)
And if it's not your thing, where DO you want to visit that you haven't yet?

We went back in 2008. It was definitely an experience and Im glad I got to go and say Ive been but.... it was not my first choice and it was so NOT a relaxing vacation. Its not the type of place that you would normally stay a week, a few days and you are so pooped you need to get back LOL. We stayed for 5 nights and by night 3 I wanted my normal crazy busy life back. There was so much excitement and walking and energy I needed a vacation from this vacation after it was over

Yes, we have! We took a road trip for New Year's about 5 years ago. It was awesome. We saw a magician perform (awesome and hilarious), we gambled, we walked the strip, danced in the streets, and had an amazing time. The strip was blocked off for New Year's Eve, and at midnight all the big hotels on the strip had fireworks shooting off at the same time. We stayed out all night walking from hotel to hotel, shopping, drinking, and dancing. Very worth it. And one of the greatest things was how cheap the vacation itself was (the room, the food, free drinks). The most expensive thing was the gas for the road trip (drove from VA to NM, then to Vegas and back). We love road trips!

I love nature and being outside. If I ever did go to Nevada it would be to stay on the lake there.

I have not been & don't care if I ever get there, either. I grew up 45 minutes away from Atlantic City & even though everyone says the 2 cities are nothing alike, it just doesn't hold any sort of interest for me. I'm not a gambler or interested in big, glitzy shows so....really what else is there, right?

I've never been. I have no desire to go AT ALL. I have family that lives out there. Maybe I'd go to see them, but would stay away from the strip. I don't like to gamble--it's a waste of money. I am not into seeing cheesy shows that has-been singers put on there. I don't think I'd like flip cards of half naked prostitutes thrown in my path. The whole thing just sounds trashy. No thank you!!

Wow, I thought we had been the only two! Hubby and I are both 30 and just went to Vegas for the first time (got a great deal from a timeshare thingy) to celebrate our anniversary! We aren't big gamblers, partiers, or whatever, but we did have a FANTASTIC time! We saw a couple of Cirque du Soleil shows (we're big fans), did a LOT of people-watching, and visited most of the "must-see" tourist traps! It was also our first trip away from baby-girl (who is now 3) and we were there for 5 days/4 nights.
Overall, it was a fun, exciting, worth-it trip, but I don't know if we would ever go back... it's just a bit "too much" for us (sensory overload)! Of course, it was the week before Thanksgiving and we had family coming from out-of-town the following weekend... so I'm still trying to recuperate from my "vacation!"

My now husband drug me to Vegas for a long weekend one year. It was fun, but not fantastic. He's a gambler, so half the time, I slept in the hotel room (I had KILLER jet lag) while he gambled. We did go shopping, which was fun and we walked around just about every casino on the strip, which was also fun. I think it would be fun to go there with girl friends so I could go to shows and visit spas....you know, stuff a man doesn't usually want to do!
I also (on a subsequent trip) got married in Vegas! After a lot of researching locally, I told my husband I wanted to elope. For me, spending $10,000 for a wedding was NOT something I wanted to do and we would be just as married if it were just the two of us as we would be with some big, expensive wedding. But, he was very set on having an actual wedding. So, we compromised. We got married at Caesar's in a real ceremony (no Elvis!) with 32 of our closest friends and family. It was about 1/3 of the cost of doing it at home and I loved every second of it!

I didn't go there willingly, and never saw shows or gambled. Does that still count? This was about 20 years ago...LOL
My BIL decided to marry a gal he knew aobut 6 weeks (he was in the Navy in CA, met her at a church study thing, and they were both nutso, but would not have sex until married, so decided they couldn't wait...OMG). I was the only one who could scrape together a few days off work at such short notice and pull enough money together for a ticket (besides his Mom and half brother who were already driving out to Idaho area to visit relatives, so she diverted her trip to Vegas for the weekend).
I arrived at 2am, the MIL and half BIL (a teenager)picked me up at the airport, we went and slept a few hours, picked the love birds up at the bus station, went immediately to get the marriage license and to the chapel they had made arrangements at. Instant wedding, falling all over each other, so they went to their hotel room, and we wandered a bit without them. We had to stay "out of town" the next 2 nights (like 45 minutes away)...but we walked thru the free parts of the hotels (outdoor attraction things), had a CHEAP mexican dinner with fishbowl margaritas at a hotel one night...and just walked around a bit.
We DID have an Elvis Encounter I will never forget, early the second day at Target...the highlight of my 3 days there!
So I never gambled, did a fancy bar or buffet meal even, or a show. I wandered a little, signed as a witness to a BAD idea marriage, and couldn't wait to get home.
But I loved the Elvis encounter! "Dont be laughing at Elvis, Baby" he said to me...LMAO!

We're a 4 hour drive away and used to go about 3-4 times a year pre-child. I've never been much of a gambler, but I learned how to play Craps with my husband and wow! that game is really fun, especially if you find a crowded, "hot" table. Vegas is decadent, hedonistic and fabulous. It's also trashy, flashy and dirty :) It's definitely for adults only, though. We haven't been since our daughter was born (who has that kind of money to throw around these days?), but do have friends that bring their kids. A family vacation in Vegas doesn't appeal to me in the slightest.
Added: best time of year to go is May, IMO. Lounge by the pool during the day, nightlife at night.

You have company. I have not been to Las Vegas - except to drive through to California. It's not my thing, either.
What I thought was funny was that, driving on the interstate late at night, it didn't take any sort of "Welcome to..." sign to know when you had left Utah and entered Nevada. Nevada cities must have one of the highest rates of electricity usage in the whole nation.

I was there once and that was all I needed. I do not gamble, I have worked to hard for the money I have earned and refuse to throw it away.
It was cool to see the sights though. When I went I stayed with a friend (who lived there at the time) and did not go to any shows. We walked around to look at the different casinos and sights. I prefered to see the Hoover Dam and Red Rock canyon instead.
I think we all forget the shady side to places like this. We also saw the bad side of vegas and it is very sad.

It's really like no other place. I'd say that if you have the chance to go for a long weekend, go. And have brunch at he Bellagio. Yummmmm!!!

The last time I was there I took my daughter as a surprise after her 8th grade "graduation" Seems inappropriate right? It was totally fine. She was big into marine mammals at the time (summer camps at Sea World, trainer for a day and things like that). There was a brand new dolphin just born at the Mirage so I arranged everything on the down low and she had no idea why we were going to the airport (I had our stuff stashed in the trunk). That trip we were just in the Mirage, saw the baby dolphin and the tigers, hung out by the pool for a bit the next day and flew home.
I have been there for work a bunch - Veterinary and medical conferences plus sales meetings.
I grew up about 3.5 hours from Las Vegas and would go in my late teens/early 20s. It was old school then. We spent a new Year's Eve there once, pretty fun but so freaking cold. I get it, I'm a cold sissy but the pools were frozen!!

I do want to see what it is all about, I don't gamble too much, as I've tried like 3 times in my life, only about $40 and lost, don't see the point in it. Now, I've played the lotto many of times, usually buy 2 tickets, one with my numbers and one with the ones they give me. Maybe 10 times a year or less I would say.

I've been to Vegas twice. First for a high-school reunion. My school is in Japan, and the grads are basically spread around throughout the world, so Vegas was picked as a kinda neutral territory for both West Coasters and East Coasters to meet at. It was loads of fun, but the main focus was on seeing old friends. So I did absolutely no gambling whatsoever. The second time was for a dear friend's wedding. Again, focus was on spending time with friends, and I, once again, didn't do any gambling. I guess both events could have been anywhere, not necessarily in Vegas, but it's a pretty fun and energetic town with plenty of interesting characters to watch. I don't think I'd bother going back to Vegas for the sake of going back to VEGAS...

I prefer vacations to be somewhere with natural beauty...beaches, ski trips, hiking trips etc. Maybe one day we will go to Vegas and see a show or two but I kind of doubt we will make that effort when there are so many cooler places to go see!

Been there, done that, and lived there for about 2 and a half years in the early 80s. I went back about 2001 and many changes had occurred like streets were widened and extended into neighborhoods. The housing boon was about to take off and it was busy.
I am not a big gambler even when living there so it was a small trip to the Strip that we would take x dollars and play tourista and when it was gone it was gone. There were a few casinos I liked to go into that I felt safe and comfortable in and played the slots. I won enough to pay for lunches and have a good diner or two. I think I won up to $500 once on a machine and then went home. We liked the shows and rock artists that came to town and would go and see a show or two. When family came to town we would go down on the Strip and show them around. Otherwise we were involved with the family side of Vegas and the sports and things. Yes it took a while to find it but it is there and there is a real town underneath all of the glitz and craziness.
I worked for a construction company and met Gladys Knight's mother and was about to do a few projects with her. Hubby got orders and we left Vegas for Germany (another story).
Yes it is hot and dry and wild and fun. Thank God there is only one on Vega on the planet. I have a cousin that lives there near Andri Agassi go figure he can afford the house I can't.
My daughter wants to get married there someday. I hope it is soon as she will be 35 next year. The only problem is we have to find the husband not dating anyone at the present time. She is working her butt off at her job that has crazy hours so it is kind of hard to meet Mr. Right.
Have a good holiday season all.

I went with my parents and sister when I was underage in 2002. I was more into the Painted Desert, the Petrified Forest, the Grand Canyon, and Hoover Dam. I should've told Mom and Dad to take us to Orlando instead.
Vegas was a pointless trip for me since I was underage and don't like alcohol much anyway; plus I don't like crowds or cities. I even gave my sister some cash so she could gamble for me and she lost it all. Didn't get to do anything at Circus Circus since we were low on cash, although I did win a teddy bear. Went to Wet 'n' Wild only to freeze because pool water in the desert is too cold. Spent most of my time playing music in the hotel room closet, which was huge, because I wanted to play the flute I'd gotten at a Navajo trading post and my family didn't want to hear it. I also stayed up late watching Samurai Jack. We ended up needing to buy a new minivan right after we got home because our transmission died.
I live near a Cherokee reservation and casino, so if I feel like gambling I can just go there. As for drinking, I can just go to a bar. If I want a water park we can go to Carowinds whenever I'm in Charlotte.
