June Wedding in Texas - Attire Question?

Since it is hot in Texas, I would like to wear more of a capri/shorter type pant for a wedding I am attending. They will need to be a 'formal' type style since the wedding will be 'formal'.
Would this look okay to wear to a wedding? Would black capris be okay if I wore a spring type 'formal' print top with them?

Other issue - I am just short (no pun intended :)) of being consider petite at 5 ft 4 inches, so most regular length capris might as well just be pants that look too short on me.
So any ideas on what retailers/where I could find short, formal style capris that would look okay for a wedding?
I'm a size 6/8.

TIA

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

With the TX heat and humidity I think I would feel like I'm suffocating in full length pants. The thing I really dislike about dresses/skirts is the way they stick to the back of the legs and up, from all the heat/humidity when you sit, then stand. You know that discreet pulling the dress/skirt away from the skin each time you sit then stand. Not to mention, if sweating a little from the heat then you have a damp dress/skirt.
I've been in TX way too many times so I totally understand how hot it could be the day of the wedding.
So I was looking at 'formal' capris as a way to still look dressed up, but comfortable. And I agree the cotton style capris that we typically see won't pass for the wedding. They definitely need to be a business like/formal type fabric.
Trying to find what I'm looking for is the difficult part.

Rosie M - where do you find the dance shorts you mentioned? That sounds like it would solve the biggest issue I have with wearing skirt/dress. As far as it sticking and having to pull it away from sweaty legs/back. That's the part I was dreading. But I have a dress I think would work if I do the dance short thing.

Have you been to Texas in June before? It's not just hot. It's suffocating, sweat just walking out the door hot. You can literally see the heat. It's hot even at 1 o'clock at night. Take my advice, wear a skirt. You will thank me.

If the invitation says formal, I would definitely not wear capris. Capris just say "casual". I think you should wear a dress or skirt if you don't want to wear long pants. A dress would be cooler than capris or pants anyway.

Why not just wear a skirt? It would be a lot cooler than wearing shorts/capris.

If it's formal I would do a skirt instead of capri's. Most capris' you will find are not going ot be formal. Or at least I have not seen any that are.

In my opinion, there is NOTHING formal about capri pants and I would not wear them to a formal wedding. Get a nice sun dress, there are lots of pretty styles for the petit and for that matter most sizes. Cute sandals and appropriate jewelry...a good manicure, pedicure and updo hair style if you have long hair and you will be set.

Capri's are not formal... the invitation states formal.... I would much rather be over dressed than under dressed for a formal event.

I've been in TX 20+ yrs and it does get hot but I wouldn't live anywhere else... I love it.

I would at least wear a skirt so I would look a little nicer for the event. Will it all be outside?

I have very nice quality capri's from White House Black Market but I would never wear them to a formal event.

Find a dress or skirt that you look great in, it will be cooler too.

Go to Chicos. I just bought a bunch of stuff there and I think several things would pass for a wedding.

I live in Houston so I definitely understand what hot is in Texas!!! If the wedding is outdoors, the bride should be hung up by the toenails! If not, we have this new fangle thing called air conditioning! :)

You should be okay if the wedding is indoors.

I'm with the "wear a dress/skirt" people. It is hot here in the summertime. In fact it's already pretty warm...hot by some people's standards. I'm already wearing sundresses or skirts and tanks/tees most days.

What I've had some success with this year with my skirts is wearing some dance shorts of various lengths under my skirts. I don't have to do the "skirt pull" every time I stand up this way. They almost act like a slip, they prevent chaffing, and feel very cool to wear..cooler than going without them. Some of them are the length of boxers, some are a bit longer...it depends on the skirt I'm wearing what length I wear.

I would wear a skirt instead of capris since it's formal. It will be more comfortable since the heat in Texas in June is atrocious. I've lined here 20+ years and it can be suffocating, so I would really go with a skirt.

And I'm barely 5', there are plenty of capris out there that will fit you, look at Kohls, JC Penny's, Dillards... if you want to find something a little more formal.

Is it an outdoor wedding? We have this thing here in TX called air conditioning....just teasing, kind of. Seriously, everything in Dallas is WAY over air conditioned. It's quite possible that you will be cool inside, but you'll be burning hot outside. Yes, we wear sweaters to the movies, our offices and restaurants to avoid freezing when it's 102 outside.

My recommendation is a sleeveless silk sheath or other natural fabric dress and bring a shrug or shawl, as well. Unless it's an outdoor ceremony, you shouldn't be outside long enough to totally melt. I'm not sure what par tof TX you're going to, but capris would probably be underdressed in most metropolitan areas.

Unless the wedding is outside, regular pants would be just fine in June:)
BUT if you are looking for some good capri pants - check out Talbots. I have found their "petite" line to be appropriate for taller folks (I am 5' 8" and got a petite dress there and it fit great!).
If that doesn't work, I'd take a pair of regular or capri pants to a tailor and have them hem it up to get the right length.
Personally, I don't wear black to weddings unless I absolutely have to (in the wedding and they make me wear it) have you considered some of the rich champagne or grey colors? good luck on your search.
Have a safe and fun trip!

No, please google what "formal attire" means. Then be sure to check with the bride for her definition of the word.

In most circles "formal" can possibly mean floor length dresses with jewels, heels, and updo's.

In other circles it means below the knee dresses, heels, still more formal hair, etc....

To wear casual clothes, pants are still casual no matter how much you might want to dress it up, to a formal wedding will make you feel out of place and if others are much more dressed up they will stand and stare at you the whole time instead of the bridal goings on.

If the bride misrepresented the wedding environment and actually meant something more like business attire or best church dress then perhaps a fancy Capri set would slide under the radar.

I still think Capri's are casual wear to be worn with low heel to flat sandals and a tee shirt. But that could just be me. I am short too and notice when short women wear them. They make their hineys look feet wider since it shortens their height and leg length.

If this were me and I thought it was dressy enough, again, if she is expecting long dresses and tails to be worn by the guests she is going to notice you did not do that...I would wear a sleeveless sheath dress with some pearls and a pair of strappy sandals with a mid to high heel. I would wear my hair up so I would be cooler and only wear a powder base, not liquid, with some dramatic eye shadow to make it look like more than just throwing on some powder and mascara.

It really all comes down to her definition of the word formal and what her expectations of the guests contribution to her formal day.

If the wedding is in a church or chapel of any kind I would expect to wear a dress no matter what. If you don't want to wear a sheath that would be closer to the body think something looser like a garden style dress and a hat. Think of what the ladies wore to the party in the movie "Mrs. Winterbourne". Shirley McClaine and the other ladies all wore floral dresses with lovely jewelry and pretty hats to a more formal event.

This is an image of the garden party that I was mentioning. They are dressed in lovely dresses but they are flowing to be cooler.

This is what I think of when I hear "formal wedding attire".

The next length up from Capris is skimmers. They are shorter than capris, but longer than bermudas.
I have a friend that bought crisp knee length shorts in every color that slacks come in. They look like nice slacks with a crease down the middle, but they are very light and end at the knee. She wears them to work at the office instead of long slacks. They are perfectly cute and really show off her shoes. She also has a tuxedo capr. They are black capris with a shiny tuxedo strip down the side. She wears those out with gorgeous tops and heels. It can be done and it can be very fashioable.

Capris would be perfect - with the right shoes and right top. Flip Flops, no matter how 'pretty' would not be okay for a "formal" wedding. So wear some cute wedge shoes with a cute top and you'll be good to go. Black, kakhi, white - I think anything would be fine.

The look that you described--capri looking like just short, maybe straight- or wide-legged pant on you--would actually look dressier than a more tapered leg. Keep the pants simple; wear fabulous shoes and simple top (or "formal" top if it won't be too much with the shoes). Do you have a black capri suit? Of course, capri is not formal, but there is a way to get away with it if you dont' try to overdo it. Be honest with yourself about your sense of style and how you carry it.
