I was just wondering if anyone knew anything about the signs of diabetes or hypoglycemia. For like the last month I haven't been able to eat any real meals just small snack stuff. Sometimes when I even try to eat the littlest thing I feel sick almost immediately and not like when I was pregnant sick(I already made sure it wasn't that) and also sometimes right after I eat I get that shaky weird feeling you get when you haven't eaten. This last week it's gotten really bad I can barely eat anything and have already lost almost 5 lbs yea for losing weight but not the way I wanted to do it. The other thing is I am constantly drinking water and constantly thirsty. I can't get into the doctor for almost two weeks so any advice or information would be appreciated......TIA

What can I do next?

Hi J.,
Those are common signs of diabetes. Your blood sugar could be low. I had gestational diabetes and it stayed with me after my son was born. Constant thirst, irritability, shakiness, are all signs of diabetes. Drink lots of water, try to eat small meals 5 times a day, (that's what I had to do), and if you find that you have these symptoms again, drink some orange juice. That will help your blood sugar come back up. Or a piece of hard candy is good. But the main thing is, is to keep eating your meals. Please advise your doctor about how you're not able to tollerate some foods right now and ask what is the best thing for you to do. Since you are showing these signs, I would call your doctor back and talk to the nurse, let her know that your appointment isn't for two more weeks, but you would like some advice now because you're concerned that you might be diabetic and tell her the symptoms you're having. Also, tell her that you don't want your body to go into a diabetic shock, which it will if your blood sugar gets too low and you're already showing signs of it being low, and ask if there is any chance you can get in sooner to see the doctor. Diabetes can be controlled, but if it gets out of hand, it could be life threatening. What insurance do you have? If you have United Health Care, let me know asap and I can give you the number to my diabetes nurse that I talk with. Email ____@____.com
Take care,
G.

J.,
Your symptoms are a lot like diabetes. You need to see your doctor asap. You need to call them back and exagerate to that secretary your symptoms and tell them you want to see the doctor as soon they can get you in. This is not something to fool around with. Sometimes you have to be a little bit pushy with them. I was a secretary in a Dr. office, I know.

It does sound like diabetes. If you are unable to get into your doctor for two weeks, I strongly urge you to go to urgent care because it is not something to take lightly. I have hypoglycemia and these are not symptoms of it because we only get like that if you have not really ate anything- but you have said that it is right after you eat. I would recommend you go to urgent care and have them test you- it can take several hours due to they will do a glucose test probably but it is worth it, please let us know how you are doing.

take care,
Jen

Tia,

Sweetie, I am Diabetic and you just described classic Diabetes symptoms. Are you overly tired? Do you get that whonky, shaky feeling a lot, perhaps when you are most stressed? Do you want to sleep a lot? Drinking a lot of water, frequent urination and constant thirst are symptoms of Diabetes. Go to your doctor and ask him to give you a 2 hour glucose tolerance test. That will tell if you are Diabetic and in which way. I did it, and I was found to be diabetic. Don't waste time. Diabetes can damage our body horribly if left unchecked.

Just call me: Been there, done that...doing it.

Hugs,
Kat

I had done a google search, a while back- about diabetes symptoms. I believe you do have some. But of course the only way to know would be by fasting and having a lab work done.

I'd try to talk to somebody else or your Dr. personally to get you in sooner. Or he could at least just put in the order so you can just go to the lab and get that started.

Hope it's nothing. Best wishes

J.,

A common sign of diabetes is frequent thirst and urination. You may also notice that you have a strange fruity smell to your breath. I would advise you to get this checked out. Uncontrolled diabetes can be quite dangerous. Do you have a family history of diabetes or did you perhaps have gestational diabetes?

A simple blood glucose at your primary care docs office will help sort this out. It is worth doing in my opinion.

Hi J.,

My husband has Type 1 diabetes (he got it at the age of 11). Being very thirsty and constantly going to the bathroom are two signs of diabetes (this is what motivated his parents to get him tested). Be careful about having to wait 2 weeks to see a doctor ... diabetes can be very serious and cause you to black-out. Avoid sugar and carbs in your diet if you do have to wait to see the doctor. Small, frequent meals are better for you than 2 big meals and don't skip breakfast. You probably should visit the American Diabetes Association website for more info: www.diabetes.org

Good luck! S.

With the excessive thirst that can be diabetes or hypoglycemia. The shaking can be anemia too. Usually those don't really affect your appetite but you need to get into a Dr.(since I am not one) in case it is gets worse or is something different. There are other things that can affect those things too, like being dehydrated or having too much caffeine, watch for hidden stuff like if you are drinking sobe, or power drinks, or diet pills, these all have a ridiculous amount of caffeine in them.

I had a diabetes scare with my daughter when she was 2. So I was told all the signs of diabetes. Excessive thirst is one of the main symptoms. Some others are frequent urination, extreme hunger, unusual weight loss,Increases fatigue, irritability and blurry vision. Turned out she was not diabetic but I don't regret having her tested. If you have concerns you should see your doctor. It is said that diabetes can go undetected for years because the symptoms seem harmless. If you think you might be hypoglycemic you should check out the web site hypoglycemia.org they have a long list of symptoms for it and an explaination of what it is. GOOD LUCK!

Just because you can't get into your doctor, doesn't mean you can't call them 24/7, if anything call your ob/gyn if your regular doctor can't get back to you fast enough. The thirst is a pretty big symptom of diabetes... but it could be a lot of other things too... You would also be very very hungry a good website to read up on symptoms would be
