That is fabulous that you have such a great attitude about it!! I know that there is a lot of love packed in there with those little odds and ends.
Hey, Folks!
In light of today's question about the worst gifts you've ever gotten, todays little box couldn't have come at a better time. The mailman delivered unto me today a box from my Uncle Tom and Aunt Betty. It should be noted that they are well into their 70's. Every year she sends homemade cookies, but I think it finally caught up with her because we got:
3 - 6 inch rulers
2 - pens from my uncle's business with his name on it
1 - magnet pad from my uncle's work with his name on it
1 - can of hard candy
1 - sandwich baggie of coffee candy
I laughed so hard I cried. God bless them! My 11 year old just ran upstairs yelling, "I'm gonna go play with my Tom stuff!"
Ever had something come along at just the right time to make your day?

I guess my worst gift was this huge box that I opened a few years ago from my FIL. I opened and found . . . . . . . . . . .A 16 PACK OF TOILET PAPER!!!!!!
Well, Saturday is hubbys bday. My aunt asked what we wanted for xmas, I said, gift cards to restaurants like Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Steak houses, etc. since we like to go out to eat every other weekend that our kids are at our ex's.
So, last night hubby got a card in the mail from her for his bday...with TWO $10 gift cards to McDonalds. REALLY??? Oh, I can't WAIT for our HOT DATE at McD's....UGH....
That is awesome!! I love your 11 yr olds response..that is great. Thanks for sharing your fun delivery with us!!
When my grandmother was with us and toward the end of her life she would always send us home with "gifts." I would get a can of cream of mushroom soup and my husband would get a can of beans. Or the great one we laugh about is when she would give us a check for $50..yes 50 buckaroos...and then in the memo it would say "ice cream cone money". She was a hoot..I miss her. Now I find my mom doing the same stuff. "Here honey..I got you this box to make cinnamon rolls with the kids." Thanks mom..but this is for cinnamon roll OATMEAL. She does this often..can't read small print or just assumes a lot.
Good luck and best wishes that Uncle Tom and Aunt Betty have many more years ahead of them!!! Let us know what they send next time...this is precious!!
ahh, how cute. That made my day. I've never had anything like that.
Beautiful story! Put a smile on my face. I just love elder folks!
hilarious!!! I got hand knitted hats from my great Aunt last friday in the mail. It was suppose to be for me, but could have fit my 1 year old tightly. I tried to get it on and we all had laughs for a long while. She also sent pencils (what is it with elderly and pencils?) and a used pencil sharpener, and it was from a cafe that was closed for at least 5 years or more. I loved the crocheted picture frame of her with some obscure person and not a relative, and her with a hand written note. Sad thing is she is legally blind and shakes badly and most if it ran up hill and off the paper. LOVED this gift however makes me know she still loves me and hasnt forgot us. Or she mistakenly put my address down rather than her daughters since we share the same name. OH Well.
OMG MZKITTY you are so lucky... be sure to get a SHAKE with dem Fries
Not that I can think of but your delivery made me smile! Thank you and merry christmas!
When I was younger we lived with my great aunt(my mothers aunt). She used to bring her gifts down stairs and stick them under our tree a few days before Christmas. They were so awful that after a year or two we decided to carefully open them up, have our laugh and rewrap them. That way we were prepared and didn't bust out laughing ungratefully in her face Christmas morning!!! I collected snow globes, the heavy kind with the music box in the bottom. Once she got me one of those plastic kind that are about 2"x3" small. The scene was an amish horse cart and a covered bridge LOL!! Said Lancaster, PA!!! The next year I rewrapped it and gave it to one of my cousins, who laughed their head off and in turn gave it to someone else in the family the next year and it went on for a couple of years as a joke we kept hidden from my great aunt LOL!! My favorite movie is Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase. Remember when Aunt Bethanny wraps her cat in a box and gives it for Christmas!!
In beauty school, I had an 80+ year old shampoo set lady. She came in every Thursday to get her hair curled and set. One day, she brought me homemade cookies. She pulled them out of her bag and put them on my station. The only thing is, the cookies were floating around her bag, not in a baggie or wrapped in a napkin or anything. The cookies had lint, hair, crumbs stuck all over them. Oh, I miss my old senior lady, such a sweetie :)
How cute! My granddaughter will put together little packages for me occasionally. Just stuff she has that for whatever reason, she thinks I'll like. I cherish those little packages. It kind of gives me some insight as to how she's seeing things.
That's awesome!!! Love it! Thanks for sharing that lol :)
I think it was a wonderful box of gifts. They can still address a box so that it gets to you! Merry Christmas!
Yes, I have a sister who collect little odds and ends to send as gifts. While some years' collections have been a bit bizarre, most years, I can tell she was systematically saving little bits of booty that came her way all year long. It really is quite a gift, if it's the thought that counts. She thinks of her family members often, not just during the holidays. I gotta love her for that, and really, who can't use a ruler, pen and notepad? Your son totally got it! Sounds like you did, too!
I'm glad you posted this. How funny and heart warming too.
That is sweet!! And you know they thought and thought about the best things to give you!! I'm glad it made your day, some people would be mad!!
That is very, very funny!! Their hearts were in the right place but WOW, those gifts are just too much. I have nothing to compare to that!!
Aw L., how amazing! And how sweet! Bless their hearts - things are a-changing!
Make sure that you speak to the family members who are closest to them so that they are "aware" of the change. It's important to do that.
Now, that said, I want to tell you that my husband's grandmother gave us things from her house everytime we visited. But it wasn't coffee and notepads!!
Smiles!!
Dawn
That's so sweet. It remininds me of Chevy Chase's aunt in the Christmas Vaction movie; bringing her cat as a gift and the cat food in the jello.
My husband's oldest sister is not that old, but she can come up with some doozies. One year she sent a large rechargeable battery. We have no idea what it was supposed to power. My husband's twin gets the same item. So we have some good laughs together. His wife and I get identical birthday presents from her since our bds are at the same time. One year, we got matching aprons, the kind with snaps in the front. Oh, and one year she sent my teenage son a girl's watch for his bd!
