Kids and Saying I Love You

I tell my oldest daughter every morning as she is leaving for school, I tell my younger daughter A lot. I tell my baby the most. I'll never atop telling them at least once a day.

Yep.
I went out to take a bag of kitchen trash (just a little grocery store bag with watermelon rind in it, not the "kitchen trash") out to the outside garbage bin, and my 13 yr old happened to also be outside. He came over and said "Momma, can I have a hug?" I used to think he was "up to something", but he is pretty affectionate with me like that. Very sensitive. He still says I love you to me AND my husband. Every day.
Now my daughter, she is 10, almost 11. When I tell her goodnight and toss a quiet "I love you" at her as I am leaving her room, she always pipes up "I love you mooore!" :)

I get a little sad thinking that while my mom and I are very close, saying I love you is extremely rare.

Between my daughter and I, 5 years, always, all day.

Our daughter is 21.. Always and every time. we say I love you.. when any of us goes to bed or is leaving for the day.

Also each time we hang up the phone with each other.

I still say it to my own mom and dad, even my stepmother.

I have a 9 year old girl.
She is still very affectionate and cuddly and says I love you to me all the time. And says "good night Mommy, don't let the bed bugs bite." Or she says "sweet dreams" to me before bed.
She still calls me "Mommy." Not Mom.

Just a few minutes ago, I was sitting in a chair. She plopped herself right on top of me, all curled up (she is a tall girl), and started hugging me and and kissing me, saying My Mommy is the best... then my son had to then plop himself on top of me and my daughter, ALL sitting in this one crowded chair, and they are both "fighting" over who says "I love Mommy" the best.
But my son is only 5 years old.

They are still very cuddly lil' kids. And verbally affectionate, still.

I always give and recieve I love yous,actually my whole family does this. it means alot in life :)

It's kinda weird in my house. With my 5 yo, I will usually wait until a random part of the day to say I love you, because I want him to know that it's meaningful, and not just something he's expected to say. However, I make sure he hears it at least once a day. He has been know to run up to me out of no where and give me a hug and say I love you, and I think I cherish those moments more than I would if it was said as more of an afterthought, like it was expected of him. My 14 yo SD just told me randomly the other night that she loved me before she went to bed, and I about fell over! She and I have been butting heads lately, but we had a pleasant evening hanging out with each other, and I had let her know that no matter what, I consider her one of my kids, but I was quick to reassure her that I had no interest in taking her actual (not biological, but ex-step) mom's place. My 16 yo SS is at that stage where he only talks to me if there is no other option, so saying I love you is like a death sentince to him.

I am raising my kids to hear and say "I love you" all the time. I kissed my parents on the cheek and told them I loved them every night before I went to bed (if I was home, as I got older!) until I moved out at the age of 22. My dad passed away a few years ago, and I have NEVER doubted that he knew how much I loved him. Saying I love you is so important!

I love you is pretty automatic for our family too.
We always end a phone conversation with "I love you".

I say it to my kids ALL the time. In return I hear it back a lot too. :)

My parents said "I love you" and kisses before bed until I moved out of the house. They still do it whenever they see me/ before leaving. At night, I kiss, hug, say I love you, and put my body over them and pray for them. Some traditions should remain uncompromised, as you never know when tomorrow won't come.

I'm 32 years old and still tell my parents I love them. I hope it never ends with my kids. My kids are 8 & 5. We say it before bed, whenever we're parting and sometimes just because.

Ummm, my five year old was in the middle of his private swim lesson today and felt the need to: wave, blow kisses and say "I love you mom." The other people at the pool were cracking up and I got a lot of "awwwwws" --even from men. He cracks me up.

oh my gosh, isn't that great? we are an "i love you" family, and i have to say that started with my husband. growing up we never said it that much, although the love was there and i have zero issues at all with my family - love my family! and we say it more now, on fb or in emails or texts or whatever - but out loud was never really a "thing". now though, my husband, son, and i say it ALL the time lol. at night, on the phone, leaving for work, whatever. it's great :) i think some families just don't, that's all. in some cases i'm sure it's indicative of a lack of...something, not sure. in mine, we just didn't gush like that. but like i said, it wasn't for a lack of love or a lack of healthy relationships. i have never in my life doubted for a S. that i was my mother's world. so.... dunno! to each their own :)

In my family it's the same. We always say " I love You" before bed, in the morning when my son goes to school, on the phone when hanging up, or just whenever..

My 19 yr old tells me all the time. WHen she was about 13, she stopped saying it for a little while. I finally told her one day when she was getting out of the car, "You better tell me you love me, because something could happen to me today and you'd have to live with the fact that you didn't say I love you to me. You never know when it's going to be the last time you talk to somebody" She has never forgotten to say it since!

ALL THE TIME! Yes, it is so sweet and I hope they never stop.

My kids still regularly say I love you...unless it's my son and his friends are around. In that case he says "Go Talons!" (Our local AFL team) I know what he means, and he knows what he means, but his friends just think he's supporting the team.

Mine is 11. I tell her all day I love her and she says the same to me. Still tuck her in and give her a hug and kiss good night. I really hope she never gets to hold for a hug and kiss from her mom.

we all say it all day long, lol! I don't always get an I love you back, but most of the time I do. I can't imagine not saying it at bed time and first thing in the morning

I have an almost 13 year old. We tell her we love her (same with my other two) I love you before bed, when she leaves for school, and most importantly, we tell when she is in trouble (which is really rare). Some nights she wants kisses and hugs, some nights she doesn't. There are some nights she even still wants to cuddle (which is amazing, since she is almost taller than I am!). :)

I love you is common, from everyone to everyone in our family. Every time I speak to my mom on the phone, and every time my husband speaks to his mom on the phone.

Our 11 year old comes to tell us goodnight and "I love you" at 9:30pm every night except for the weekends where she generally falls asleep watching tv in her room at 10 or 11.

My 11 year old daughter tells us she loves us all the time - before bed, when she is leaving for school, anytime we talk on the phone. And I am sure my baby will be the same way once he learns how to say it. My husband and I tell them we love them all the time.There are just "I love you's" flying all over the place in our house. LOL. It's great!

When I married my husband, I thought it was strange that he always told his parents he loved them when he got off the phone. I never tell my parents I love them! To my hubby, it's just normal. Why wouldn't you tell your folks you love when?

I tell my kids I love them a lot. My husband tells the kids he loves them a lot. My two year old just started telling me he loves me back (so cute!), and my 4 year old tells me from time to time.

I doubt they will tell me they love me when they've grown up, but it would be nice.

My 23 yo son says it before he hangs up the phone after talking to anyone in the house. He does it to my mom and dad too.
My 17 yo daughter says it, sometimes to pacify the mommy rage, I'll hear really sweet, I love you, mommy. Really, I do. Always accompanied by a hug.
My husband still says it to his mom and dad, grandparents, aunts. It's one of the reasons I married him.

my son is 18 and tells me all the time. when he comes to say good night, before he leaves for school, before we hang up on the phone. Never stopped saying it even while growing up through his teen years. Never stopped kissing me good bye when I was the one dropping him off at school. Basically he was never ashamed to do any of it. As long as you always keep it going, it will never become awkward. He also tells his sisters all the time as well as them saying it back, with a hug and a kiss.

My kids all - except the 22 & 6 mo olds say I love you to us... They are 17 yrs, 8 yrs, 6 yrs & 4 yrs. The 22 mo old thinks you say night when you give hugs... so everytime he gives me a hug he says "ni-nite". It's cute :) But I am trying to get him to say Love you. Glad you kids still say it!
