Kids and Snow

How many of you have kids that have never seen snow? Never been to the ocean? Never climbed a mountain?
Anything else I might be missing?
And if this isn't something your kids grow up around how old were your kids during their first experience in the snow, ocean, mountains?
Any parents on here that have never seen snow?
Again just curious.
One of the reasons I love living in New England is my kids get to experience almost everything mother nature has to offer.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Yes Theresa I work in Portsmouth right off 95 and when I go home on Fridays I see more cars on the highway from out of state than I do from NH.
Yes KIDS All fixed :)
No not a bucket list for my kids. My kids have done so much all ready. I am just wondering how many kids don't have the chance to do all this stuff.

Ive seen snow get to about an inch or two, and that is as rare as lemonade in hell around here....but one year it happened Christmas eve!

Weve been to the ocean plenty..i think my 3 year old would grow a mermaid tail if i didnt watch her closely out there, they love it. Weve rode jet skis, boogie boarded, collected shells and visited water parks almost every summer since theyve been born.

No mountains yet, i wouldnt mind seeing them, climbing them, eh...not so much

My kids have played in the snow. They haven't been skiing yet - think we'll do that this year!!

Climbed a mountain? Well, they have climbed hills and "mountains" but not something like Everest (smiles). They have climbed up part-way on the Devils Tower...their ages have stopped them from going further...but one day they will stand atop it!

My kids have played in the Pacific Ocean on Christmas day.
They have boated in the Atlantic and in the Chesapeake Bay.
They have touched the top of a jelly fish.

I was raised in Hawaii and didn't touch snow until I was 10 years old. it was cold and funky!

My kids have NOT been to the desert and ridden on an ATV. That is one thing I want them to experience. We will be doing a rafting trip next year with the Boy Scouts...

Are you doing a bucket list for your kids?

Ah, well NH has it all! Real winter, real summer, a coastline, mountainous terrain, small quaint towns, important cities.

As a New Yorker, I am pleased to say, that thanks to YOUR state, I have experienced everything on your list! We have beautiful mountains and lakes and cities and massive snow storms and HOT summers here in upstate, but we have no OCEAN. And Hampton Beach is the closest point from here to the end of the land, and we go there often! (as well as Mass. and NJ too, even ME is a reasonable drive. I can't imagine living somewhere where you can't DRIVE to the ocean)

:)

Don't leave out the desert! We are New Englanders, too, but have taken our kids to the Sonora desert almost every year since they were born. It's a fascinating, fragile environment, and we have learned to love and cherish our time there. Lots of great slickrock climbing, gorgeous rock features, dinosaur tracks and active dinosaur digs, cactuses!

The American kids who haven't seen snow or climbed mountains have other beauty around them - the great plains, deserts, river valleys, temperate rainforests, more. We live in an incredibly diverse country - isn't it fabulous?

My kids have played in the Atlantic ocean and the Carribbean, as well as the Gulf of Mexico. They have seen the Rockies and the desert. They have seen snow and played in it. However, not recently! Unfortunately, my kids have also seen tornados and hurricanes. :(

They have not seen Europe or South America. That is something I want them to see. I have lived overseas and that is something I have always wanted for them.

My kids got to see the ocean for the first time this past summer. I was so excited to take them. There isn't much "big" nature in Chicago, and I grew up in the Ocean.

They've seen the "mountains" in Pennsylvania, but I can't wait to take them to the top of a ski run and let them feel the wind against their faces as they stand on top of the world. They are a bit young for this experience, but I do look forward to that day. My daughter woke up at 3 in the morning while we were driving through Penn. She was enthralled by the experience, all the stars, the up and down of the road. She keeps asking to go back! The day drive experience wasn't as exciting ;-)

We play in the snow and leaves all the time.

My daughter has seen snow and only likes playing in it for a little while. She doesn't like being cold. Her friends in school have never seen snow, they are from here in FL. I took her to the beach for the first time this summer and she hated swimming in salt water and wanted to keep her shoes on so the sand wouldn't stick to her feet. She has asked when will the leaves change here, I know we both miss that.

My 5 year old daughter played in the ocean when she was 8 months old, so I guess (to her at least) that probably doesn't count. My 4 year old son has never seen the ocean. I definitely want to take both of them in the next couple of years.

We live in TN so they get to experience everything else mentioned. They LOVE the outdoors and I love that they get to experience all of it. They love to camp, fish, hike, hunt, explore, ride bikes and just in general anything that requires being outside. My son is on countdown now til the first snow and he gets to go sledding. He got upset when I got the winter totes out last week and he found his snowboots only to be told, no Honey it's not snowing and you cannot go play in it yet.

We live in a very small town and I love that they are growing up in that atmosphere. It's the reason I moved back to my hometown. But, they are not experiencing many cultural things like museums or plays or heck, even elevators very often!

I live in Colorado so my kids have seen plenty of snow and mountains. We have hiked mountain trails but as far as what I consider mountain climbing that is a little extreme :) They have seen a tornado right outside our kitchen window (it was far enough away but you could still see it) they have been camping without any amenities and got to see 2 wild moose that was cool. My son 7 knows how to set up his own fishing pole and usually catches the biggest fish, my daughter just started in on the fishing and caught her first 18 inch walleye this summer on a dora pole! They saw the ocean for the first time last march during spring break, it was the pacific so I would like to take them to the white sand, blue water soon. My children state that they want to go in the shark cage as soon as they are able to. No hurricanes, or earthquakes but im okay with that!
