Kindle Books for Preschoolers

I just got a Kindle for and would like to try to some picture books with my 4 and 5 year olds. I can't get a sense from the sample or trial or whatever of how good they are. I would use it with them at first but hope they could grow into eventually. Do you do it? Love it? Hate it? Why? Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

I have a couple of books downloaded on my ipad and my 7 year old says she prefers her books in paper style. She won't read from the ipad.

I have gotten tons of Kindle books over the past year for my guy, he turned 4 in April. I've only paid for one, a story book Bible for $1.99, all the rest have been free, so if he didn't like it we could delete it and I wouldn't feel as if I'd wasted money. (I do the same for me, I've never paid for a book for me, ever.)

We sometimes read books at night off the Kindle instead of a "real" book, we both love it. He has his fave Kindle books, just like his "real" books, too. And I'm looking forward to him having the books on there when we take a trip on Amtrak later this year, much easier than lugging "real" books.

and
Who's Who on the Farm are ones that come to mind. I will take a look and write them down and list more here, or PM me so I can send them back to you.

Know that the books aren't always free. I have a few sources that I follow on Facebook that list free books from time to time - here's some:
- Couponing to Disney
- The Frugal Girls
- Hunt4Freebies sometimes, too.
They all have websites so you can check there, too, or sign up for emails from them. They'll usually list books in all genres with links, then I scope out the children's, mysteries and cookbooks. The books are free at the time posted, sometimes the price goes up quickly, or remains free a few days. Crosby the Crab was free a long time, I saw awhile back it was $2.99. So jump on them. Sometimes I will see a book I've been wanting to get is now free and I'll jump on it and sometimes get it free.

Also, when you search Amazon enter "free children's Kindle books." Or change the search to low to high priced so it lists freebies first. Read the reviews other people have written, I've not gotten a few books, and gotten books based on some reviews. I've reviewed some myself.

The good thing about free Kindle books is you can delete them if they're truly worthless, no harm, no foul. But I've never had to delete my guy's books, just some of mine ;)

I don't have a Kindle, but I have the Kobo. I can download books from the public library to my Kobo for loan. Does your library support the Kindle? It is a great way to get free books.

I still use paper books and would not buy a Kindle. I think we put our eyes through too much computerization.

I don't get picture books for my Kindle. I find they aren't as interesting. If you have a Kindle Fire then it's a little better b/c at least they are in color. I have the old school Kindle that just reads books. I will sometimes get some chapter books so I can read them to my 5 y/o. She does love that b/c it makes her feel really cool and read on the Kindle like Mommy!

I absolutely love my Kindle and I almost never read regular books for myself anymore. I highly recommend them to any person who is an avid reader b/c I find them more convenient and more eco friendly (in some ways)...but I just don't recommend them for kids' books.

I think small kids need tactile books to look through, touch, feel, smell, take to bed, take in the car, take in the bath, etc. It's what helps them learn and encourages them to explore reading. Now that's not to say an occasional Kindle read is a bad thing, but in my opinion, most of the books for that age group should be the regular paper kind!

There is a website called pixelofink.com that offers free and/or discounted kindle books. The offers come through email. http://www.pixelofink.com/young-edition/. It looks like there is different age groups to choose from. Happy Reading!
