Hi moms! My husband and I are considering moving outside of Austin. We have both been here 20 years but we are looking for something with around 200,000 people or so and less traffic and angry drivers that are texting. :-)
We have the option to move any where west of Texas if we really wanted to. We have two small kids to consider that will be going to school with in the next few years too. We would love to have more seasons than Tx has to offer. Do any of you live in the perfect city and feel safe and could recommend it? Any advice is greatly appreciated! It's hard to think about moving out of Austin but it's not for us any more. It's just getting too big. We have considered Georgetown too but aren't set on that either.
Thank you!

We love Arvada, CO. It's a suburb of Denver...population is roughly 100000. One of the City Planner goals is to have a park within a 10 minute walk of every citizen who lives in Arvada. We're close to the mountains and we have a Festivals Commission who puts on events like the Harvest Festival and Parade in September, Kite Flying Festival in April, etc. The crime is nearly non-existent where we live, and overall for the city is amazingly low. It feels like a close knit community and is close enough to Denver with the big museums and the mountains that you don't feel like you're in the middle of no-where. GL! :)

Oh, and I heard this a while back...Colorado referred to as "The Texas Alps" /JK

Look into Colorado. Denver might be too big, but Ft. Collins or Loveland (N. of Denver) are great cities. Not too much snow (believe it or not). Wonderful people. Rating as one of the best places to live by Forbes magizine. Close to Denver and the sports teams, (1 hr max), but also close to the moutains. Also close to Univ of CO (Ft Collins) so there is some local culture etc. Check it out!

Well, it IS still in Texas, but it's WEST Texas...I grew up in Lubbock, and would definitely go back there. Around 200,000, MUCH better traffic system, town feel is much smaller than Austin. Texas Tech is there, and while I went to private school, I have several friends that went to public school that say it's good. The winters are definitely colder, and it does snow there some in the winter {although to say it snows a LOT would be a long stretch}. It's also pretty close to the NM border, and snow skiing is as close as 3 hours away.

{My brother also lived in Amarillo during school and told me that it's not too bad, either...and they get more snow than Lubbock. lol}

If you are in AAA get some stuff from that...........if not, get with the Texas visitors center and get some information. With all that said, you're best bet is to interview some Realtors in the areas you might want to move and see what they say. They are usually pretty good, but you need to make sure you find one that will work for you and knows what is going on.....some do not......

The internet is always a good place too....if you find a school, type into Google.....abc school reviews......(putting in the name of course) and see what comes up......

Good luck and take care.
