Hello Budget WISE Moms!
My big 40th birthday is coming in about 3 weeks!! It fortunately falls on a Friday so I am taking a vacation day to spread my celebration over a 3 day weekend! However, it is summer time for my son who is 10 1/2 years old and I'm wondering if any of you have any awesome fun stay-cation ideas for the immediate surrounding area of Las Colinas? I look forward to hearing your ideas and Thanks so much for sharing!

What can I do next?

If Southlake is not too far, stay at one of the hotels at Southlake Town Square. It's a great area with plenty to do and all within walking distance. Great shopping, movie theater, great restaurants (for a special dinner, go to Trulucks...yum yum!), spas.

what about the four seasons? it has 4 pools, tennis courts, lakes, golf...and is usually less expensive than a room at the great wolf lodge. thinking of taking a stay-cation there for the 4th of july, i'll report on details if you're insterested.

Great wolf lodge. Your son would love the water park and you could enjoy the spa. It's wonderful.

Great Wolf Lodge sounds like a great place for you both. The water park would be fun for your son and the restaurants are really good too.

I think you might have a hard time finding something for your son since you only want to stay in Las Colinas. I know of a really cute farm (I forget the name) in Irving, but it's not in Las Colinas. You may have to venture out of Las Colinas, if possible. Happy early 40th!

There's a great new Irving rec center pool up in Valley Ranch with slides and other water playground stuff. You might also see what's going on at the Valley Ranch Library for kids his age - they always have activities in the summer for kids/preteens/teens. You might also try your local rec center. Depending on where you are in Las Colinas, Lee Park might be a good rec. center to try or the one in Valley Ranch.

I just picked my son up this mornig from a birthday party at Great Wolf Lodge. It looked really cool! It's a bit pricey, but for the options you have it's not all that bad. You get a wrist band to the waterpark for everyone in your room, and the wrist band is good for 2 full days at the water park for 1 night of stay. They also have an arcade, a treasure hunt with a wizard wand, 3 restaurants, gift shops, and I can't remember what else my friend said. It was amazing to walk into and just see. The room they were staying in was for 7-8 people and it was nice. They have indoor and outdoor swim areas. It's an idea. He would have fun and you could relax or shop. There's also a Starbucks in there, if you like Starbucks. Happy 40th!
