I'm sorry, what in the world is a 'Leaky Gut'?
:)
Hi Moms,
My friend takes her son to a DAN doctor. For years, she has been trying to fix his leaky gut (full of Candida yeast). He takes probiotics and eats a gluten free, casein free diet and takes supplements. Do any of you know a different way to cure a leaky gut? My friend is at her wits end. Thank you!

I too go to a DAN doctor for my child. Is your friend also removing all yeast from her sons diet? Depending on the severity it can take a good long time to heal the leaky gudt. Also, is she for certain that he still has leaky gut? If his only symptom is the diarrhea, it could be caused by one of the supplements. My son had the same issue, I thought his cronic diarrhea would clear but when it didn't we discovered it was due to one of his supplements. His DAN doctor had him take an herbal supplement called "slippery elm" which definitely helped. Also, some supplements can be too "fierce" and need to be slowly worked up to the regular dose as to not cause frequent blasts of diarrhea. Another thing too, is your friends son on any prescriptions such as Diflucan or Nystatin to cut down that yeast overgrowth? And lastly, if your friend is doing the GF/CF diet, is she 100% in or does she casually stray? The GF/CF diet has to be an all or nothing deal until the gut can heal. I hope your friend finds some answers soon! Tell her good luck and to hang in there, the right protocol of treatment is there, it's just a matter of trying new things until you find the one that works!
My son really benefitted from taking omega-3 supplements. Within 6-months of being gfcf, taking probiotics and taking the omega-3 supps, my son's digestion was to the point where he was no longer had problems with diarrhea.
My step mom has leaky gut and she also takes liquid aloe vera to help heal/soothe the intestinal lining.
I am pretty sure most health food stores carry this.
