T.J.
Bled and cramped that day but better the next. Take extra folic acid before and after, I did and my gyn said I'd healed faster than anyone she'd ever seen!
My GYN suggests I have a LEEP procedure (after fnding mild dysplasia). Am interested to hear how other gals may have done with this type of procedure.
Had my leep procedure done on 2/17/2012 - I did have anesthesia so I felt nothing. My recovery time was almost instant - no bleeding - no cramping - felt fine. I do take folic acid and that helped immensely (as another girl posted the same results from taking folic acid) I sure would not have this done without anesthesia. Thanks for all you responded to my question

If you have the option to be under total anesthesia, DO IT!! They used a general anesthesia and it didn't work at all, I felt EVERYTHING, almost kicked my doctor in the face (no joke). It was awful.
Recovery isn't awful though, just take some pain meds, drink lots of water, and lay out on the couch for a day or so. I think my recovery took a little longer because the stupid general didn't take, but it wasn't awful. Just played a lot of xbox and watched a lot of t.v. for 2 days; move slowly, if you try to go too fast, you get these little sharp cramps (it's really not that bad).
I have had this done five times. They write me a script for Vicodin and Zanax. I never take Zanex., I have taken the Vicodin once. I think the Vicodin made me more nervous. So all the other times I dont take anything. I can feel it, but its more uncomfortable than pain. It doesn't take that long. My doc usually just talks to me to keep my mind off of it. They always are shocked when they ask if I took meds and I say no. I have a high pain tolerance, I get migraines all the time, so I can totally deal with feeling uncomfortable for a little bit.
Over the years I've had 2 LEEP procedures done. The first was in early 2000 & the 2nd was in 2009. Both times I had total anesthesia & the procedure itself wasn't bad & the recovery was just like Rachel said. Take it easy & you'll be back to your old self in a couple of days.
I had this done several month's ago. I was really scared because the colposcopy with biopsy was really painful. The LEEP was almost painless. I was given local anesthesia and not general.I was told the doctor I had was really good. I had some mild cramping after. I had a pap test 6 months later and the dysplasia had cleared up!
I would ask your doctor if they can give you something to relax you to take before the procedure (if they are doing it with local anesthetic instead of general). I was given a prescription to take, which really helped me stay calm.
I'm sure you'll do great! I wish you the very best! Please let us know how it went.
