how do your kids store there legos, especially the sets like the race cars or 4 wheelers???

I found this wesite Box4blox that looks sooooo cool. It sorts the legos by size, little ones fall all the way to the bottom, middle sized stays in the middle, big ones stay on top. Does anyone have one of these and do they really work, It's $55 plus SH so it seems like a lot if it doesn't actually sort them, I would love love love to make my own sorter somehow, likle with chicken wire??? any ideas on that would be great too.

We use $1 plastic shoeboxes (rubbermaid containers with lids) for sets and have one big rubbermaid box for all the generic blocks. I don't think I would pay $55 for a plastic box...even if it is a fancy plastic box.
Good luck.

Well my guys don't care about mixing up the sets. After they've built a particular set (vehicle, ship, etc.) the first time then the best part is taking it apart and using all of the pieces from the other sets together.

We have an underbed craft storage box that I originally bought for wrapping paper. It has an insert on the top that holds small things. Anyway, that's what we use for the main storage, and it slips right under the bed. I don't think I'd bother with an expensive sorter unless your child is particularly organized and would really enjoy having the pieces separate. Most kids I know just like diving into a big pile. We have thousands and thousands and thousand of pieces (those Star Wars sets are nuts) and I'd shoot myself before trying to organize them.

We use those large clear plastic storage bins with the flip lids. We got our from Costco, around $10 for a 2 pack. My boys have separate bins for their regular legos, their Bionicles and car parts like wheels. They also have divided trays for mini-figure parts, and an old cassette storage unit (from a garage sale) with many drawers for all those tiny pieces.

I have that sorter bin.
Though it's not that great for storage, it does sort alright.
Legos have pretty much taken over the playroom.
I joke our son has enough to build a life size model of our house.
Big clear plastic bin(s) work great.
For pieces that are organized (by size or color), I have them in zip lock bags and those are in net laundry bags.
Assembly instruction books are in a large zip lock bag of their own.

It looks really cool. The price I saw was 29.95 and 10.00 shipping for one. Were you looking at their site? It would be neat to have one just to sort and then put the separated pieces into containers for storing. We haven't accumulated tons of them yet but we keep them in a plastic storage bin. Part of the fun is searching for that elusive piece and the thrill of finding it. It is like a treasure hunt. :)

We use Rubbermaid containers with locking lids for each different set. We have more legos than you can shake a stick at.
The sorters do look really neat, but my son likes to keep all his legos separated by sets, not size.
Lego makes a sorter that looks like a giant lego man head and you can get it at Target.

Good luck! And thanks for reminding me that I need to fish some legos out of the vaccum. I think those little block multiply in the night!

Sounds like one of those items that might be good in theory but not in the real world application. We were a huge lego family and plastic bins were fine for us. We did good getting them in a box muchless getting them separated in a box...

we keep ours in tackle boxes (the little pieces that get lost) and most of the legos are in an under-bed storage box. easy to find pieces without dumping them all over the floor, because it's so shallow, and easy to push under the bed to get them all away when he's done. i'm not sure where to keep his sets he's working on and creating, right now he just keeps them on top of his dresser.

Since my daughter really doesn't get sets, I just have a huge rubbermaid container. Cost less than $10 and holds thousands of Legos. If she had sets, I wouls just use ziploc bags in the big tub to keep the sets and instructions together.

I have 2 different options. the first one is a large cleer (sort of white but you can see through it) bin that slides under the bed. its about 4 feet long by 18 or 20 inches wide has a lid. we slid it right under the bed. the kids would get those fancy sets and make whatever they were. which was fun for about a day. then it ended up tossed into the bin with other things. the way we have them stored now for the grandkids is a rubbermade drawer thing. it is really heavy duty. we have legos in one drawer and kinex in the other. i got it at target. good luck
