P.S.
Try to get the high efficiency bulbs. the one which are marked energy efficient. a 15W bulb gives out light equivalent to a 60W traditional bulb. So you will in effect have 45W of electricity used but 180W worth of brightness.
Hi Moms~~~
My husband just finished installing a new ceiling fan/light in the kitchen.....I love it.....here's the problem....I never read the box to see what the wattage was...It says 20watt max !!!! 3 bulbs......I am now cooking in the dark!!!!! It's driving me crazy....Of course I can't return it bc I threw out the box!!!
So....my question is......does anyone know if I can put 40 watt bulbs in??? I am scared it will blow up or something!!
Thanks for your help!!!
So.....I love the CFL idea.......one problem....they are chandelier bulbs (skinny ones) !!!! I amgoing to Home Depot to see if they make them!!!!! YOU Moms are awesome!!!!
Thanks sooooooo much!!!!!!!

Put the new cfl bulbs in. The 100 watt bulbs only use 23 watts. The 60 watt bulbs use only 13 watts of electricity.
Good luck to you and yours.
Don't know about the 40 watt bulbs. I would suggest buying CFL bulbs - much lower wattage to get the equivalent brightness of incandescent. If you have a dimmer, make sure you buy CFL bulbs that are dimmable - It will say on the package if they are.
No I would not do that. If you could use 40 watt bulbs they would tell you
that. Sorry.
Use a CFL of the appropriate wattage. In your case you will install 20 watt CFL bulbs in the fixture. The reason this change will improve your light output is because a CFL produces 4 times the light per watt as compared to an incandescent. In your case, 3 bulbs x 20 watt = 60 watts but with CFLs, 60 watts x 4 = 240 watts of light output. You go from 60 watts of groping to 240 watts of whoa that's what I'm cooking! This substitution of CFLs will not create a fire hazard unlike substituting higher wattage incandescents which would.
So it looks like many people have answered just what I was going to say and that is to get the CFL light bulbs. And if you don't know what those are..they are the ones that look "curly" or "squiggley". Some come as a regular bulb shape, but most of them are the curly ones. I also have a ceiling fan/light fixture in my kitchen and that is what I have. A 15 Watt bulb will give plenty of light. Another idea for additional lighting in the kitchen, that we have done, is to get the long thin flourescent lights and attach them under the cabinets. They are low profile and add a nice amount of light directly onto the counter.
Good luck!
And always follow those wattage guidelines...you don't want a fire! :)
I wouldn't do it. Add a small lamp in the kitchen area on the counter.
I've seen this in numerous new model homes.
Also, add a tall floor lamp in another area of the kitchen.
You should be able to return it if you have the receipt! Did you already ask about that? I hope you find a solution!
