I gave birth to my daughter at Torrance Memorial 2 1/2 years ago. I chose it for a few reasons...
-My OB/GYN recommended it (but her office is also across the street from the hospital).
-I recall that Torrance Memorial can do a higher level of emergency type procedures - can't remember what it's called, but I think they can do up to organ transplants or something like that. I remember also reading that they're one of the top 100 hospitals in the country.
-Tor Mem has an anesthesiologist (sp?) on the delivery floor at all times. (Of course I was paranoid that I would need an epidural in the middle of the night and if the anesthesiologist wasn't there, they would have to call him/her who would arrive late and I'd 'miss the window'.)
FYI - The birthing room was very nice. However once you're done delivering, I had to switch to a regular room which is much smaller and not nearly as nice. So you spend your labor time in the nice birthing room, but then you spend your 2-4 days recovery time in the small, regular room.
I have heard good things about LCOM as well. Many friends have delivered there and been very happy with it. At LCOM you do not have to switch rooms after giving birth - you can stay in the comfy birthing room.
I would talk to your OB/GYN and find out why he/she prefers LCOM over Torrance Memorial. Oh and some of the things I mentioned above may have changed over the past few years.
Good luck!
