my little girl sleeps 10 hours at night but her "sleep phase" is 12am-10am. how can I get her to sleep at a normal bedtime? She is finally sleeping through the night by herself.

What can I do next?

I would suggest waking her up earlier. Do it gradually, like an hour a week & see if she gets tired earlier & starts going to bed earlier. Does she take several naps during the day? If her last nap is, for instance from 4-6pm, also wake her earlier from that last nap. Slowly, move everything earlier & she should adjust to an earlier bedtime.

I agree with everyone else. Establish a routine and move it up a little earlier each week. If she has a problem with it, then it just may be in her nature to have that sleep phase.

Our daughter is 7 now, but did the same thing. When she was a baby, we got her to sleep earlier using the same suggestions you've received. Now that she is older though, she has returned to that same sleep pattern. I wake her up at 8 every morning, but she will lay in her bed until midnight before she sleeps. I really believe it is just the way she is. She doesn't keep the rest of us up though. Good luck!

L.....Congratulations on baby sleeping through the night...
Gradually start everything 1 hour earlier! Bath, Dinner, Playing....and once you got that 1 hour down you get her on routine and do it the same way in a month.

I am happy to hear she is sleeping for you now! You were having such a hard time, I'm happy for you! Don't let her sleep past 4pm and start things earlier. I would even say start with 30 minutes. Wake her earlier in the morning, don't sleep past 4pm, and start bedtime routine earlier and see if you can get her down 30 minutes earlier. Keep doing that over a couple of weeks as see if you can get her on schedule!

I had a similar problem with my son. His pediatrician told me to start a bedtime routine about an hour b4 bed and then at the time I want him to be going to bed put him in his crib and let him cry it out. We did that and I worked he was over the crying after 3 or 4 days. However if you only want to move bed time up like 2 hours I would just move it up buy 1 hour every 2 weeks. It takes a wile that way but they never even realize something is different.
