Local Questions Showing up for Everyone?

This may be a silly question, but why do I see local questions for people in other parts of the country? When you submit a question it asks if it's specific to a local area. I assumed that would mean the question would only show up for people in that local area. But maybe that's not the case? Or are tons of people simply hitting "no" and saying that their city-specific question isn't local?

Does anyone know how this works?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks all. It sounds like you're all seeing the same thing I am. And to clarify, I wasn't wondering why I was seeing mommy questions from people all over, I was wondering why I was seeing requests for a nanny in Chicago, or for a daycare recommendation in Houston. Those are obviously local and I would guess the people would choose the YES, this is specific to a local area. It's obviously no big deal - I just skip those ones!

I think it's nonsense that they ask if you want a specific location for your question, since they show it universally.
Just like friend requests seem bogus to me. What does it do to add someone to a friend list? Nothing at all, so far as I can tell. I like to get the requests. I just wish there were more connectivity between friends. They go in my friends list and that's about the extent of it.

You have a tab that says 'recent questions' and one next to that which says 'questions in Albuquerque' ;)

I just answered this from Richmond, VA! I don't ever post mine specifically to my area unless it's for a local business question...

The friends list for me is so that if I want to message a particular mom, I can go straight to her instead of searching for a question or answer she has recently posted.

The local thing used to work when it was mamasource.. , but I do not think so much anymore.

I seem to be getting questions from all over the nation too -- even questions that ought to be "local only" (such as suggestions for doctors in a specific locale). Of course, most questions aren't local, but are general "mommy" questions about birth, breastfeeding, baby sleeping, sibling rivalry, etc. Still, it is frustrating and/or annoying to see so many questions that *should* be local, and I see them when I'm 300+ miles away from them.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it anymore. I posted a local question earlier, changed my location to Glenview, IL, where the practice I was asking about it located, selected "local," but I guess it still showed nationally, as I have people from all over answering it.

It used to work perfectly fine.

It's not a big deal for me if I see the national questions, but sometimes when I am searching for questions in my own area, I won't get some that are IN the Chicagoland area, but perhaps a bit outside of the radius. (Ex, someone in the northern Chicago burbs probably doesn't see the Southwest suburbs when they click the tab for their own area.)

I do actually like being able to see posts that would have been local only for the Twin Cities, Madison, Wi, or Milwaukee, Wi, as I have either lived or spent a ton of time in all those cities, and can usually answer some of the questions.
