Looking for a Church - Des Moines, IA

I'd like to start taking my son to church, I was raised Methodist, but I don't really care, just looking for a friendly place where I don't have to dress up and where there's a diverse membership -- I'm white and my son is biracial, it seems like a lot of churches are all white or all black

What can I do next?

We go to Cornerstone Family Church. We love the leadership there and our kids love the children programs. My husband and I almost always were jeans to church and while there are people the do still dress up, there are plenty of casual dressers that you really fit in no matter what you wear. As for diversity, it is a very diverse environment, it is one of the things that Pastor Dan and the rest of the leadership feel very strongly about. The "mission" of the church is "Helping ALL people find and live their lives in Christ, bridging Ethnic, Cultural and Denominational lines".

Good Luck!

Hi S.,
I would like to invite you to our newly planted church down by Easter Lake. We live in Ankeny and we travel down there. It is absolutely wonderful. Our service is at 10am on Sunday and we meet at Riverwoods Elementary. We come as we are...no dressing up:) We have a nursery and even though we are very small still, we have open arms to all. Here is a link to the website. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions:)

Hello S., my husband and i attend Jordan Creek Family Church. They meet in the Century Theaters at Jordan Creek Mall. There are about 125 people maybe? But we love it because we have finally found place where we are encouraged and they treat us like family. They welcomed us from the beginning and went out of their way to get to know us. They have a church fellowship time once a month, good small groups and really great music. It's a younger crowd with young families, so you'd fit right in :) It's non-denominational. Give it a shot. Their website is www.jordancreek.org. wherever you end up, God bless!

If you haven't been to church in a while you would be amazed at how many biracial families there are. In church, people usually don't care about skin color, we're all God's people coming together to worship Him.

hello! I really like my church, Zion Lutheran on Beaver Ave. In the new member orientation they talked about how it didn't matter what denomination you grew up, everyone is always welcome and having so many come from different denominations make it a more interesting and diverse group of people. 8:30 is a traditional service, 9:30 is an express service, and 10:30 is a contemporary (my fav, with the praise band)
