Please share the name of good divorce attorneys. I've been married for almost 6 years, my husband is an animal, and I need to leave. He has some assets, but says because he's retired, and he's owned our home for 25 years,my kids are not his, no judge in this world would award me much of anything. I don't want much, just enuough to make a hefty down payment on a small house, or to put in the bank for a security blanket. PLEASE HELP!

I am sorry that you are having to go through this, but it sounds like (when you say your husband is "an animal"), you may be making the right decision. I know a great Lawyer however, she is in Olathe (Trina Nudson, ###-###-####). She is a Social Worker and an Attorney (you don't find that to often), and is wonderful to work with.

I second Topper Johntz! And, if he is not available, go for Micheline (Bulldog) Burger. She is in Olathe, but an AWESOME divorce attorney!!
I don't know about Shawnee (what matters is the court, my experience is in JoCo) but the MOST important thing you MUST do is find someone you can trust and respect, and I've have found through some rough experience that the task is not easy. My husband left me and my two little boys 18months ago and we are still going around and around b/c I was willing to be fair (even though I'd made the $ and supported him for 4 years), and he and his attny have done everything they can to destroy me and take everything. Don't waste any time. Call me if you'd like... I understand that this is devastating. I've paid or still owe >$70K in legal fees and it is maddening to have gotten almost nowhere... what a terrible waste of precious time and money. And our children have suffered beyond explanation (now 3 and 5). DON'T let this happen to you. Tom Sullivan is the BEST man I have found, bar none, though i'd wasted $60,000 before finding him. Call his ranch # and he will get the basics and meet with you ASAP: (weird number, I know) ###-###-####. i repeat, DON'T waste any time or allow your husband to file first and put you on the defensive.
