Looking for a Good Vacuum

Hello Moms,

My vacuum just busted so I am looking to buy a new one. I have an indoor German Shepherd who sheds, so I want something that is effective with pet hair and is also light weight.

Any Suggestions?

Dyson and Oreck are so pricy. Are they worth the money? Any input would be appreciated.

So What Happened?

Thanks for the recommendation Moms. I bought my DYSON Animal last Sunday. My husband was against the purchase due to the cost. Grudgingly he agreed after I had him read my Mamasource responses. The vacuum totally changed his mind! The suction power is amazing. My husband took the vacuum from me and started cleaning the living room carpet. Believe me that is a first!!!! We bought it a Home Depot with no interest payments which takes the bite out of the cost.

Thanks again, this holiday season I will have much cleaner carptets!!

I've had my Dyson for 3 years and have no problems at all. I really like the bagless bag and the option of carpet or floor.I think it's worth the money.

C.,
We love our DYSON so much and yes, we balked at the price initially too. But it so worth it, and we have 2 golden retrievers so you know I vacuum alot. I lost my home in the 2007 fires and since then have been displaced twice. Both "temporary" houses, I insisted needed a DYSON cleaning. So if you want to replace your vacuum about every 18 months, and keep paying and paying go ahead. The Dyson repays you so much more by having the stability and maneuverbility to work for everything. I hated vacuuming until I got my 1st DYSON.

We did a lot of research before buying my current vacuum. Its highly rated in Consumer Reports (over the Dyson), does a great job, and is a fraction of the price.

Dyson Animal DC17... It's the top notch best..believe me it's a bargain compared to the Darn Kirby I got and paid $1800 for. I am currently waiting for my Dyson, because I am in love with my friends Dyson Animal. To me the Dyson works 10x better than the Kirby which is supposed to be the best and last 25 years..yup..doesnt even compare. My friend has 2 cats and a dog in the house, before she got the Dyson, I never could go into her house due to my allergies to both cats nad dogs as well as Asthma...sicne she got the Dyson, I have no prblems visiting..so yes it is on my Christmas list..LOL

Hello C.. Yes, the oreck is pricy, but I love mine. I have dogs and cats - it picks up their hair. Also, because it is so light, I just pick it up and run it on the furniture - I have also run it on the bed rather than tossing the comforter in the wash quite as often. I run it on my rugs and my tile/laminate floors - no switching anything. It has been a fantastic vacuum for me!

The dyson is amazing. I have the DC17 and couldn't be happier with it. I had gone through several less expensive vacuums and found that I was spending more money replacing them then buying an expensive one that will last. The Dyson goes on sale at the end of the year in some stores, try Target for last years model, and save $100-150.00. SO WORTH IT!

After all the vacuums I've been through, my advice is to find a commercial mom and pop vacuum store near you where they sell the "old school" type of vacuums. My husband and I did a lot of research before settling on our Panasonic MC-V5241. It has two filters, one a HEPA filter and I still haven't had to change the dust bag since we bought it early this year. It has an indicator on it that tells you when it is full, and it hasn't even reached the halfway mark yet. The Dyson's and other types of vacuums that don't use filters and/or you have to clean out the dust area each time just are not as effective (you're bringing a lot of the dust back into the air when you open the chamber to clean it out) and do not last as long. Granted we spent a little over $400 on our vacuum, but I've been very happy with it and will never go back to bagless/filterless again.

we have the dyson dc7 and it is by far the best vaccum i have ever used! it is great on pet hair (we have two cats, a puppy, and i have long hair so we get a lot of hair around the house). my sil has the dyson ball and swears by it and her daughter has the animal one and also loves it (both have several pets as well). it is expensive but worth every single penny!

I have the Dyson Animal. It is by far the best vacuum that I have ever used. I use it on my tile, hardwood floors and the carpet.
It is worth the money, the parts are all under warranty for like five years, I broke a part on mine and they sent the replacement for free. My dog also is a shedder and is an indoor dog, it has been great!!
