Looking for a Spirituality Group for My Family

I am looking for a place my interfaith family can feel a sense of belonging. I am Jewish and my husband is Catholic neither of us are practicing, however, I think it would be nice to find a place in Schaumburg or at least near that area that brings families together to instill spirituality and family relationships. Anybody know of such a place?

What can I do next?

Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington. It's right on Barrington Road just south of Algonquin. There is actually an entrance on Algonquin also.

I just can't even say enough about the church.

I highly recommend it. Their website is willowcreek.org.

I am also in a mixed marriage and have found the Interfaith Union (as mentioned below) to be an invaluable resource. The Director/Organizer (Eileen O'Farrel Smith) is the most wonderful, gracious, and welcoming woman. While I've never attended any of their actual events, I have sent a number of questions to Eileen - to which she has quickly responded (with such support and grace to someone she doesn't even know). Definitely check them out - she'll be able to help!

Hi L.,

I'm going to echo the thought of you trying Countryside Unitarian church. I go to the UU church in Naperville. The church is full of "mixed" marriages. There are Christians and there are agnostics and about everything in between. Our church also has a Jewish heritage group and tons of former Catholics.

On top of it, most UU churches are open to members starting new small groups that fit their needs. I have visited that church and enjoyed it myself.

I have visited Willow Creek and have family members who attend. It doesn't strike me as what you are looking for.

Hi L.,

There is a "sunday school" for families with a Jewish and a Catholic parent. I believe that it is more of a spirtiuality group than anything else. The Old St. Patrick Church in Chicago is their main site; but I know there is a group in Arlington Heights. We have not been yet, but hope to go soon.

Bahai Temple or any Bahai groups, I know there are many in the area. They don't have church services but they have more spiritual meetings--they encourage all faiths to join and bring their religious books-all faiths learn from others! Here is a website link...http://www.bahai.us/
you can email/call for locations.
I also come from a marriage of two different religions and we both love these get together, its very warm and open to all.

I totally disagree that Willow Creek is the right place for you. It is VERY, VERY conservative christian church with strict beliefs. I would never go back there, I felt like everyone was judging everyone about every action and choice they made. I went for 6 years.

Try Countryside Unitarian Universalist in Palatine. There are lots of mixed couples there. They have a lot of activities for kids. They have lovely music, and no fixed theology. Everyone believes what they believe.
