Looking for Advice on Pediatricians

My doctor gave me some recommendations for Pediatricians, but I need to know a non-doctor's unbiased opinion. Has anyone heard of the MD Pediatric Associates in Lewisville? If so, which doctor do you use? I am open to any doctors as long as they are affiliated with Baylor Grapevine and carry Aetna insurance. Any advice is much appreciated!

What can I do next?

Hi C., we've used MD Pediatrics for two years. I wasn't happy with the pediatrician we chose when we had our first baby so when she was two and I was pregnant with my second we switched. I usually see Dr. Holt because he works the evenings. The doctors are all wonderful and a fringe benefit is that they stay open until 9 and you can even see them on Saturday. I've seen all of the doctors except one and all of the PAs through the years and I'm amazed that I like all of them. My friend referred me to them and I should have known they'd be good because she is very particular. She sees Dr. Kincaid.

One weekend we went out of town and my daughter got sick. I called them Saturday morning and they waited for us to drive in from out of town so that I could bring her in. They could have gone home because they didn't have any more appts. and I'll always be grateful that they did that because we were really concerned about our daughter.

I know another Mom said she regularly had to wait a long time to see the doctor. I've only had that happen once in two years when I had to wait 45 minutes. The majority of the time my wait is more like 15 minutes.

I have used MD Pediatrics for over a year now and am very happy with the office and doctors. Although I had planned to use Dr Kincaid after a friend recommended her, Dr Leung saw my daughter in the hospital and we've been going to him every since. He's great with her...very friendly and fun and spends time answering all questions and concerns. They also have a nurses line you can use at anytime to answer questions you may have that don't require an actual visit. They also have a lactation consultant on staff which is helpful if you plan to nurse. I know they accept Aetna but not sure about their affiliation with Grapevine. I completely recommend this office!!! Good luck.

I would strongly encourage you to NOT go to MD Pediatrics in Lewisville! My children went there for several years. I liked the extended hours they offered. Typically I would have to wait 45 minutes to one hour for a scheduled appointment! One of the last straws was the day I had to wait 2 hours with both of my sick little ones. It was ridiculous! Waiting a long time is standard protocol there.

My son was born several weeks early. He became very jaundiced. The doctors at MD Pediatrics had me taking my son to the hospital daily for a heel stick blood draw. Looking back now, I should have switched doctors then. Most pediatricians would have put my son on phototherapy because his counts were so high. Fortunately, my son's body was able to fight this off before needing to be hospitalized.

The one thing that was the last straw was when my then 2 1/2 year old son was sick. I knew he had something not right. I went back to the doctor several times. Each time I was dismissed. They said it was "just a little upper respiratory virus and it needed to run its course." Basically they made me feel like I was overreacting. I knew my son was not himself. So, after 6 weeks of this so called virus, I switched doctors. The new doctor felt it was allergies and asthma and we switched medications. Within a week, my little guy was better.

I can strongly recommend Dr. Dhoot at Pediatric Physicians in Flower Mound. They are located on Churchill, directly across from Lifetime Fitness. He has never rushed through an appointment, doesn't keep me waiting for long, is very thorough, and listens to your concerns.

I go to Dr Cahan in Coppell. She is awesome and I cannot say enough good things about her. She is affliated with Baylor Grapevine as well. Dr Nina Cahan always has a hug for you and she is very loving. She asks about you, your family and takes the time to listen to you which is so important. You can ask her anything!!

She is a General practitioner so she is my DR as well as my daughter DR.

Just make sure whatever doc you choose has kids of his/her own. The real life, practical experience of parenting makes a TON of difference in how a pediatrician can support parents -- especially NEW parents.

You should be able to call the practice and schedule a "meet the doctor" type of visit. The practice we use in Denton actually holds a regular "meet the doc" once or twice a month specifically for new patients/parents.
