My best friend is moving to Garner, NC in June and is looking for an apartment for herself and 10yr old son. She's looking for a quite appartment or townhouse in the $600-$800 dollar range.

What can I do next?

I moved to Garner from Chicago in January. I actually ended up renting a house instead of an apartment (there are a lot of problems with roaches in apts) and I found it by posting a free ad in the Housing Wanted section of Craigslist.

you (or she) can search for apartments on sites like www.apartmentguide.com, www.rent.com, www.apartments.com --just remember that those complexes provide the info so its biased.

I advise checking out any potential apt neighborhoods by going to www.apartmentratings.com to see what present and former tenants have to say.

Try looking over at Georgetown townhouses on Aversboro Road in Garner. I am not sure what the going rate is over there these days, but I don't think it is as pricey as Heather Park across the street.

J. B,

Tell your friend to contact Bryan Woods Apts in Garner. They are pretty nice. My niece use to live there. She had a nice size two bedroom apartment for about $675. That not bad. She should also check out a website called craiglist.org, or even the southside shopper.

We lived there 4 years ago...Heather Park was our choice...very nice. (Lake Benson Park is about 2 miles south, nicest park in Garner) It's off of Aversboro Rd., and Aversboro Ele. is realy close.

There's also another slightly newer complex over by White Oak (Averly Place?). Convenient to 40 & shopping. Also just a couple miles from East Garner Middle School.

There's another complex off of Tryon Rd. That I think is a bit cheaper...If you take exit 298 South then take a right on Tryon it's not very far down on the Right. Not sure about that one. Haven't been there, but I knew people that lived there.

Hope that helps!
