Looking for an Overnight Trip Somewhere like Storyland

Hi -
We are looking to get away this weekend. Someplace similar to Storyland, in the sense that it is geared towards small children. Our kids are 6, 4, and 1. We missed the boat for storyland - not only are there no decent hotels available but it looks like it's going to be freezing. Any and all suggestions are welcome! We are in Rhode Island so we can also go south a bit too. I'd prefer no more than a few hours away, but we're somewhat flexible.

What can I do next?

Not sure if you have checked this one already, but our favorite hotel near Storyland is The New England Inn -- www.newenglandinn.com -- it is very nice and not as well known by the Storyland crowd.

Also in New Hampshire is Santa's Village -- lots of fun, in the Jefferson area. May be the same issue with hotels though??

Sesame Place in Pennsylvania is great for that age. We went for the first time this summer. With not bad traffic it is about 5 hours from Providence. Maybe a little more.

In Massachusetts there are a couple newer indoor waterparks in hotels. That might be fun. Not sure the names -- search indoor water parks in Massachusetts.

Edaville Railroad does a big festival this weekend -- could do a hotel in Plymouth area, do Edaville which is in Carver, Plymouth Rock and Plymouth Plantation, etc.

Roger Williams Park is also doing their jack-o-lantern spectacular. We plan on doing that this weekend and then going pumpkin picking another day.

Another not too far destination although not as theme parkish -- Mystic in CT. You can do the aquarium and the seaport museum and there is a Children's Museum not too far from there. Only about an hour from Providence.

Good luck!

hey,
i'd probably suggest something like 6flags if it werent so cold. you might be able to find a decent hotel near one if they are still open in warmer areas.
if not, then i would suggest going up further to Cape Cod or New Hampshire. there are very nice hotels up there and lots of fun activities, like hiking, skiing, etc. you could get a small cabin and enjoy some time in the mountains, let the kids just build snow men.
i am also from Rhode Island, and maybe a since its been summer already and now transitioning into fall, you can allow your children to skip the miserable "DEAD" weather and go right to "bright and white" weather. warmer does sound funner, but they've had summer for a few months, so why not give them a head start on a Winter Wonderland?
teach them new things, watch them play and enjoy your family time at night, near a warm fireplace.

hope i helped. enjoy your VACATION!!! :) :)

Seasame Place is great!! Southwick Zoo is really interesting, great animals!! At that age as long as your all together and you have good snacks they'll be happy. Try someplace you and your husband can enjoy too, maybe a cabin with a fireplace for night ;)and 'family' hiking trails for day. Collect some colored leaved and iron them between wax paper to save them, paint your own paper weight rocks, take a family picture you can use as your christmas card. Happy parents = happy kids = happy family - Just have simple fun.
