We're looking for a talented, reasonably priced photographer to take family photos of us. I would like someone who has experience with kids (ours are 3 and 6 mos). We are in the Shelby/Rochester area and don't want to go too far if possible.

I have used Jennifer Lee Photo - Jennifer Dumeah. I used to work with her many years ago before she started her photo business and she is wonderful. She photograhped my two kids and many friends' kids. Her style is great and she will come to you! We live in Shelby township and there is a photographer named Debbie that works out of her home, Special Moments Photography. She is SO reasonable and we just took our 4 month there for her first pictures. She is so wonderful. Our little one got cranky during the shoot and she took the time out to let us give her a quick catnap. The best part is our proofs were ready in 3 days and our order once placed was ready in 4 days. I highly recommend her. She is located at Hamlin & John R. She has a studio right in her home. The best part is there is a protected box on her porch and she leaves your proofs and order in there to pickup at your convenience. My best friend just took her there for her daughter's 1st birthday pictures and the photographer baked a baby cake and shot the pictures as her little one dug into it. It was ADORABLE. We use My Photographer at Lakeside mall for most of our pictures. There is usually a delay from your scheduled time, and honestly a lot of the time I leave there wanting to cut my throat...but the pictures turn out pretty good for the price. We had them do a family picture in the fall when they do outside pictures.. the pictures were taken at the Shelby City building/park area and we were really happy with them.
I know you have a lot of responses already, but a friend of ours is a photographer who does a lot of kids, he did great belly pictures for me when I was pregnant along with my son (not in his portfolio though). I would highly recommend Portrait Innovations. They were amazing with my 7 week old daughter. They are at Lakeside and in Northville. That also have an amazing package for $9.99

i have been working for several years with a phenomenal photographer. her name is aly darin and her company is aly darin photography. she is very reasonably priced, works tirelessly with children and families and has an amazing array of products and packages. she customizes everything to your exact specifications and the best part is that she comes to you. every year on my son's birthday, i tell her where i want to shoot his bdy photos and she meets us there, chases him around shooting tons of photos, and gets me a completely customized package in about 2 weeks.

Diane Rudisill is extremely talented and she's right in Rochester. She has her own studio, but also does location shoots too. She got wonderful pics of our kids, who weren't being very agreeable that day.

If I can get my husband to show me how to add the pics of our sons 6, 9-, and 12 month pics i will send them over. Maybe more expensive than sears or jcpenneys walmart but absoulutely worth every penny.

I just received the proofs of my pictures and they are wonderful. I had him come to the house thinking that it would be a more comfortable environment for my girls (ages 6, 4 & 22 months). He spent 2 hours with my girls, he let them play, we turned on music and they danced around, we took breaks for snacks, etc. He was so good with the kids. I have been to every place locally, and nothing beats having someone come to your house and let your kids just be kids. I have great posed and natural pictures of the kids just being kids. I also just had him come to my office and take corporate pictures and those turned out great too. If you use him, tell him that V. from H & R Block Financial referred you and maybe you can get a good price deal. Good luck!
Our family uses Kiddie Kandids (located in most Babies-R-Us stores). They have taken as few as one baby to as many as our whole extended family (19 people with adults & kids). We like that it is walk-in appointments so you can go when the kids are having a good day. You can also make an appt online if that worries you - but we have never had a problem. We have always gotten great photos from birth on up. You only buy what you want (no sitting fee, no required purchase) which is great. So if the kids do have a bad day and you don't get the shot you want you are not obligated to buy. And you can do a package or just by the photo. (You can also get all your photos on CD).
You've got a lot of responses, but I worked for a wonderful woman who is also a great photographer. Her name is Sherry McLaughlin. Please check out her work before you make a decision.
