Looking for Great Non-oily Hand Cream for New Mom Excessive Hand Washing & Hand

Who has a hand cream that they love? I wash my hands all day long with my 5 month old & have pretty much lost all the moisture in my
hands. They are so dry that my knuckles sometimes crack & bleed. And they are actually sensitive to water now & sore. I can't stand the oily feeling of some creams unless I only apply right be4 bed so I would rather hear about day use non-oily creams BUT if you swear by it I would be willing to use an oily night cream also. Since I am asking, how about hand soap? Any recommendations there too? Thanks

What can I do next?

Hi J.
congrats first off!!
I use SunStar organics MSM lotion
it has NO chemicals in it like many lotions that contain parabens... and even those that say unscented are often scented with chemicals so as not to have a scent. (it's crazy) this lotion is great, non-greasy.. and above all, non-harmful for you and the baby growing inside you...
I use orange ylang ylang, which is scented BUT with essential oils.. no junk added here...
you can read up about the product online. I think wholefoods may sell it or OR David Wolfe's sunfoods.
well I wish you the best and happy holidays!

Hi J., I found the best lotion on the planet! Renew Intesive Skin Therapy. You will never want to use another lotion again. My hands were the same way, and no lotion helped. It heeled my dry, cracked hands in one week! and it has kept them soft! It is light enough for daily use, but powerful enough to relieve severly dry skin. It is safe for newborns and up. You can only get it through Melaleuca, and until the 15th of Dec you can join for $1. Renew won hands down in a blind side by side comparsion against the #1 recommended brand, Eucerin. I can tell you how to get it if your interested. Since i have gotten it, everyone that has tried it has fallen in love with it. Great for Eczema too! They have alot of safer products for you family and home's everyday use, even the hand soap!. and everything is Risk Free. If you don't like something you get your month back up to 60 days, empty bottle even!

I'm glad you posted this because I have been going through the same pain and just found a solution to my problem!

So it may not be for you but this has been working for me and immediately overnight my hands were healing.

I bought some of those hand lotion mositurizing gloves you wear at night. I think I may of seen them at Target, I happened to pick up a pair at Ross. I use Corn Huskers Lotion. I checked for it at Target, they didn't have it but Raley's did and it was less than $4. It's not even really a lotion texture, its hard to describe but it's been working! My hands too would hurt even when I rinsed them with cold water, my knuckles were cracked, ouch! Since i've been only using it for 2 days now I haven't tried it during the day yet (like if i'm just watching tv or something, and I don't need to use my hands).

Someome had told me about this a long time ago, I wish I would of tried it sooner, good luck!

Hi J.,
My aunt used to swear by Silicone Glove hand lotion sold by AVON. She was a surgical nurse and was constantly washing her hands. Hope this helps.

I find it funny you posted this question, I was thinking of posting a very similar question since my skin has been dry since I had my daughter (18 months ago). What does help although it doesn't hold up to a bunch of washes is Utter Cream. It is very oily at first, but if your skin is as dry as mine it soaks in really quickly. I can't wait to see what other moms have posted, my hands get so dry they hurt.

Happy Holidays to You and Yours!!! I too wash a lot,and my hands by the end of my day are just as you described yours. I LOVE this hand lotion and have used it for years. I use it off and on all days when I'm not at work and every night before bed (when hands are really cracked) It's... Vaseline Intensive Care Advance Healing,..lotion. Now I will warn you,.. The Vaseline Co. will update the bottle every now and then and it's like...where's my lotion ? Oh there it is lol!! Now I recently couldn't find it,..so I currently am using,.. Advanced Healing Lotion Target brand ,..So far so good but it's only been a couple of weeks where my hands really have needed it. Good Luck!! I can honestly say I have gone to bed ( sometimes 4 hrs sleep only) and have woke up with hands free of the severe redness ,cracks, and feeling a lot better to begin my "Washing Hands" day again. Oh , there's no greasy or oily feeling to it.!! Such a plus !!

I really like the alba botanica lotions. However, I would recommend getting something super from Origins right now since you're in a world of hurt.

Just to get your hands "over the hump" so to speak, in healing, you might want to get those overnight gloves. This is going to sound icky, but it really works to get cracks healed. Wet hands in warm water just before bed. Get a tube of antibiotic ointment and rub a bunch onto your hands, then put the gloves on. Wear the gloves until morning, then gently wipe off the extra with a tissue.

I don't recommend this on a daily basis, just do it long enough to get the cracks healed. It usually takes my skin about two nights of this to really recover from the cracks. During the day, use the lotion you decide on.

Just as an aside, and I'm not trying to be rude, but is all of the hand washing really necessary? Are you being a bit paranoid about germs, or is there a specific reason? You might want to ask your doctor if there are long-term effects of "excessive hand washing" on the skin and if he/she thinks it is necessary.

J.,
I have hand excema. I use aquaphor at night time. During the day I use Lay it on thick by bath and body works. It smells nice also. (clean smelling). If I don't use them my hands itch, crack, and get infected. I also put gloves on at night. I hope they both work for you.

Hi J. J
What I have found that works better than any other skincare I have ever used is Nuskin. If you were my neighbor I would let you try it. It's natural aloe based with no harmful ingredients including mineral oil. Doesn't covr up the skin just gives it a smooth soft hydrated result. After using Nuskin for a while I became a distributor so I can use the products at a wholesale price. You can get them wholesale as well with a 20% gift with purchase reward too. If you want I could send you a catalog or you may want to visit my website. These products are really nice for the babies too. Everything is moisturizing and promotes healing. Once you use them you never want to put anything eles on your skin. Let me know if you are interested I do drive through Livermore sometimes.
www.select.spabeautyathome.com is the website.
Best wishes. P.

Neutrogena Body Moisturizer Daily Therapeutic Lotion. It's one of the best I've found. At night I lather up my hands with a mix of lotion and petroleum jelly and sometimes olive oil.

The nurses in the NICU, who constantly scrub their hands, recommended Aquaphor (sp?), which is a bit oily at first but works amazingly well. You can find it at any drug store. Maybe you can use it at bedtime. A good cream (also at drug stores) is Cerave. It is not at all oily. Just get the cream (in a tub) and not the moisturizer (in a pump) because it isn't as strong.

Hi J.,

My name is S.. Congratulations on you soon to be new arrival. I have two boys of my own and I love every minute of being a Mom! For hand soap I like almost any of the pump soaps that you can buy at Trader Joes. My favorites are Lavender Avalon Organic Glycerin Hand Soap for the bathroom and Kitchen Anti-Bacterial Hand Soap in Lemon for the Kitchen. You can get them at any Trader Joes.

For hand lotions, I personally like the EMERGE products from Gold Canyon. They make a Raise Your Hand Silk creme for the hands that is amazing and Grains of Truth Hand Scrub to get the dead skin off. I hate to sound biased on this one, but I am an independent demonstrator for these products and I am offering 20% off + free shipping through 12/17 if you would like to try it. I am listed on Mamasource businesses also.

Good Luck and check out Trader Joes.

Between workign with my daughters 1st grade class and the volunteering at the senoir center, I get very dry hands from washing and using hand sanatizer. I have tried everythign under the sun and finally found the Gold Bond lotion. It takes just a very tiny amount and it feels greasy for all of 2 seconds, then your skin absorbes it.

Good luck!
