Comfort Suites Canal Park!! Right on the water, end of canal park so you can see the ships come in (if you get a room on the lake side). Walk to all the great stuff. Love staying there!
We just decided to pack up the kiddos and drive to Duluth for the weekend. I have never been and was charged with getting a place to stay (on the lake). Any recommendations for hotels in Duluth on the lake?
We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Duluth - it was a wonderful time. We did the Glensheen Estates, the Aquarium, walked the boardwalk, watched boats - it's was a fabulous weekend.

Not sure if you are set on staying in Duluth or not, but I would highly recommend Larsmont Cottages near Two Harbors. It's right on Lake Superior. They have a pool and offer other free ammenities (like free use of their bikes to take out on nearby trails, bonfires, etc.). Hope you have a great trip!
Hampton Inn, Canal Park. How old are the kiddos? We recommend the new alpine slide at Spirit Mountain. They need to be at least 3 to ride with an adult though.
The Inn is supposed to be nice. There are a couple others in Canal Park. We were going to do the same thing this weekend, but many of the hotels seem booked. We once stayed at The Suites which is also in Canal Park. It's a little strange because it's in an old building, but it has suites, which is something we always need with our children sleeping in a separate room. Anything in Canal Park is pretty much on the lake, but it won't necessarily have lake views. We love it there, and so do our boys!
It's not ON the lake but VERY close (like 3 minute drive) but we LOVE the ComfortInn - its very nice, reasonably priced and has a FREE FULL Breakfast buffet.
