Looking for OB/GYN Referrals

I really like my OB/GYN, but she has recently gone on an extended leave of absence with no return date. My husband and I are considering eventually having another child, perhaps not in the too distant future, and I think now would be a good time to try to find a new doctor. I delivered my first child at Northwestern and very much liked the hospital, though I'm looking for a doctor outside of the Faculty Foundation practice. I'm also open to doctors affiliated with Loyola or Hinsdale Hospitals, since I do live in Brookfield.

I'd especially appreciate input from anyone who has delivered naturally and declined pre-natal genetic screenings, as I did that with my first child and intend on doing so with any future pregnancies as well. I'd prefer a doctor who supported those choices.

Thanks!

What can I do next?

I have a great OB/GYN and he is out of La Grange Hospital. His name is DR. Scott Multack. If you call the hospital they can ive you his number as I don't have it on me at this time. He has done a great job as a doctor not only for me but also with my sister.

If you are willing to work with NMH again, Dr. Alicia Lee is my PCP & OB/GYN all in one and I couldn't be happier. I have been able to talk freely, never feel rushed, and she is incredibly sweet. She has 2 small children of her own and completely understands a lot of our issues and concerns.

I delivered all 3 of my kids (including a set of twins) with the Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group OB/GYN group instead of NMFF. There is a group of midwives in the practice and great support for all choices of birth. Even with my twins, where I had to work with one of the docs and medication was darn near mandatory due to the strong possibility of needing an emergency C section for one or both, the docs and midwives supported my desire to labor as long as possible before getting the epidural, worked closely with us and were very supportive in the discussions of prenatal screenings. They're a great group. 312/926-8811, 680 N. Lake Shore Drive. My primary is Carol Hirschfield, one of the midwives, and the doc I worked with for the twins is Scott Moses. Good luck!

I am currently 29 months pregnant with my first child and love my ob/gyn. Her name is Amy Stoeffler and she practices at Loyola North Riverside clinic. I have somewhat of a complicated history. I was diagnosed w/ cervical cancer almost a year ago. She referred me to an oncologist for treatment and both of them supported me in concervitive treatment which allowed me to become pregnant. I did also decline prenatel testing and she was very supportive of that. She is always running on time and I never have trouble scheduling appt (which can be difficult because I work full time). It also puts my mind at ease to deliver at a hospital with a high level NICU in case something should happen after delivery.

Hope this helps

A.,
I highly recommend calling Women's Health Consultants at RUSH downtown. They are very caring and respectful. Also, the nurses at the hospital just won the Magnet award. I recommend Dr. Michael Hussey and Dr. Xavier Pombar. Dr. Strassner is head of their department and is very kind, but I understood the other doctors better. They will respect your wishes unless you or your baby are TRULY at risk.

Good Luck

I think you would really like Dr. Pamela Dorne. Her office is at Ogden and York (950 York Rd., Suite 201) in Hinsdale, and she's affiliated with Hinsdale hospital (phone is ###-###-####). I delivered my first 2 babies at Northwestern and then in January moved to Downer's Grove. I sent a request out to Mamasource for advice on an OB/GYN (I'm pregnant with my 3rd) and I got a lot of referrals. I ended up with Dr. Dorne and I'm really happy I did. She has an autistic son, so she understands the whole testing thing and she thinks a lot of doctors from Northwestern push the CVS too much. I agree! Anyway, she's very laid back and really talks to you. She takes her time and she pushes you to call her anytime -- immediately anytime you think something might not be right, i.e., early Braxton Hicks, etc. Like I said, she was referred to me from another mamasource mom who told me that her husband is a med mal attorney who researched her and liked her educational/residency background and little, if no, prior lawsuits against her. Good luck!

I'm glad that someone recommened WHC at Rush. I am a patient of Dr. Hussey's and he is just wonderful. I also declined the genetic screenings and he and his nurses have been extremely supportive.

I live in LaGrange, and use West Suburban Women's Health in Willowbrook-- there are 4 OB/GYNs and 2 midwives. I am 25 weeks pregnant and am using the midwives, and absolutely love them (they support natural birthing, and supported my decision not to do genetic screenings.) I have had limited contact with the OBs in the practice, but have heard great things about them as well. They all deliver at Hinsdale Hospital. ###-###-####

I agree with the 2 other mothers who listed West Suburban Women's Ctr in Willowbrook. They are fantastic. My primary doctor there is Dr. Cannon, but I saw all 4 female doctors and Dr. Murrey delivered my daughter at Hinsdale. They are very popular so the only downfall is having to wait in the waiting room, but they are worth it. I plan to use them for my next pregnancy.

I used Lake Shore Obstetrics for both my births. All the doctors are great and I found them supportive of my decisions which included using a doula. They're located at 680 Lake Shore Drive.
