Fairly new to area (less than one year) A little about us - we make all baby food, cloth diaper, co sleep, sling etc and are at minimum delaying vax (some we will forego completely) soooooo with all that in mind anyone know of an open minded pediatrician not to terribly far from Birmingham?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

THANKS EVERYONE (except Alison :)) your responses were great - we actually are already at BH Peds! So I guess for now we will stay and we will meet all the Dr.'s to see what the best fit is!

And Miss Alison you are welcome to PM me to talk more in depth about my feelings regarding vaccinations. I have several links to faulty studies done by pharmaceutical companies to rush their income producing vaccinations onto the market. One should never judge another and in particular on the internet. You would be in for quite a shock if you met me! And please know that by definition if there was an outbreak of something your child was vaccinated for and mine wasn't - your child would NOT be at risk LOL HAVE A GREAT DAY ALL!

I go to Dr. Lippitt who is on Maternity leave but all of the doctors in that group are great. They are at 13 & telegraph I don't know the number to the Birmingham office, but you can call the West Bloomfield office and they can give you the phone number to the Bham office. ###-###-####. Good luck!

We take our 8 month old to Pediatric Care Corner in West Bloomfield. All of the pediatricans are great. I have seen three of the four doctors in the practice. You can call and have a consult with one of the doctors first if you like. We had our consult with Dr. Bobal-Savage. There are three women and one male in the practice.

We are strating vaccinations until our daughter is a year old, you just have to sign a waiver that you do not want to do vaccinations until you choose to or not at all. I was referred to this practice by a friend from our church. I have listed the information below about the office for you.

B. Decker
Redford, Michigan

Pediatric Care Corner, P.C.
2300 Haggerty Rd Suite 2110
West Bloomfield, MI 48323
###-###-#### Phone
###-###-#### Fax

The office is located just south of Pontiac Trail on Haggerty. The office is in the first building on the left handside south of Pontiac Trail. They are on the second floor to the right as you exit the elevators.

Best of luck to you and your family and God Bless you and your family.

I've seen two others refer Beverly Hills Peds. That's where I went too when we lived in the area. We liked Dr. O'shea. She too was open to our waiting on vaccinations or not giving them at all. She had confidence that we had looked into it and knew what we were doing. On the polio, she said that was a "no brainer" that we should get that one, but that was the only one she advised us to get. She was great with the kids, got to know them and us. She was always happy to hear we were still nursing and supported that.

hi again M. !

i do all the same things - i only get 1 vx a yr, don't start giving them until baby is over a yr old and choose which ones i want (which is NONE of the newer ones). and we cosleep and delay starting solids and never ever give our kids cow's milk ... all the things they ask about at a ped, we do our own way or contrary to what they advise. needless to say, we've had to switch peds a few times to find the right fit! i could give you quite a long list of who *not* to go to, LOL!

we've finally settled in for the last 6 yrs at beverly hills peds. they have 2 locations, one in bingham farms and one in sterling hts. we love all the drs. there but the very best / ap supportive ones are the founder, dr. dorsey and dr. cheryl. we see dr. cheryl almost exclusively, she is fully supportive of all the ap things we do and is very against circumcision - i love her ! their main # is ###-###-#### and the east ofc that is closer to our area is ###-###-####.

you have to r/m who ever you pick that you employ them, not the other way around. i also learned to just say 'we are doing fine' when they ask about where baby sleeps, what they eat, if they're on cow's milk yet. to me those are parenting questions, not medical/health ones. i go to a ped for medical issues and that's it.

I, too, would like to find the same type of pediatrician that you are looking for! I love the doctor we have now, but they do try to pressure us into the vaccines.

As for the person that posted about how you should "do your part" by getting your child vaccinated, they really need to do so more research! That was a very ignorrant statement!! With that said, I applaud you for taking an educated aproach to your childrens' health!!

M.,
I also take my daughter to Beverly Hills Pediatrics (like another poster mentioned). My daughter's pediatrician is Dr. Wasvary. She's very good and understanding of my need to spread out vaccinations, delay, and selectively vaccinate (my nephew was injured by vaccines). It's so great to hear that there are other moms in the area that feel the current schedule is too harsh for our little ones! The only "glitch" I encountered at this office was when I went in for an initial "interview" (where I sat down with the office manager to get a better feel for the office before my daughter was born) and I mentioned my concern about the tie between vaccinations and autism and she scoffed at me. But the doctors themselves have been very respectful of my choices. I think I've vaccinated more than some of the other posters on this thread but I never get more than one vaccination per visit and allow (at a minimum) 1 month between shots and NEVER vaccinate when my daughter is sick (never when the immune system is compromised - even when she has just a cold). When I was dreading the approaching MMR vaccine (suggested at 15-18 months by the CDC) and voiced my concerns, my doctor suggested "why don't we just wait until her 2 year appointment and then you can reconsider then" and that was the end of the conversation (such a relief!). I've heard so many horror stories of pediatricians practically yelling at and shaming parents for questioning the vaccines and the schedule. I commend you for doing your own research and making your own choices. Our family doesn't practice all the same methods that you do but we only buy all natural and/or organic food for my daughter (we're slowly moving that way for ourselves - trying to phase it in to ease the strain it puts on our budget) and I'm extremely cognizant to avoid any sort of toxins in our home. If you're ever looking for some good info on the subject, I've found the book "Healing the New Childhood Epidemics: Autism, ADHD, Allergies & Asthma" by Dr. Kenneth Bock has some great suggestions on vaccines (amongst other things). It seems like they're adding new shots to the schedule almost daily and I've read that the FDA only studies the effects on these vaccines for short time periods and does little to no studying on the effects of administering multiple vaccines at one time. Best of luck!

I have a great pediatrician in Waterford, he's Dr. Glenn Bauer. He is literally right next to the Oakland County Airport (the windows look out to the runways and the kids can watch the planes come in and take off-- good for distraction). He is a big believer in "you are the only one who can make the right choices for your kids" and has never discouraged me from doing things naturally-- making my own food, breastfeeding, cloth diapering, etc. He is a one man show, so he does everything himself, from weighing and measuring the child to giving the shots (if you choose to give them at all). I even have his home and cell numbers and instructions to call if there is ever a problem, which is a rarity these days. He has evening and weekend hours (although they don't open until 10am-- receptionist arrives at 9am) I just got a card that he is accepting new patients, so if you decide to give him a try, let them know i referred you. His info is: Dr. Glenn Bauer, 6600 Highland Road Suite 25 Waterford, MI ###-###-####. Good Luck with whomever you choose!

Why would you delay vaccinations? You're putting all of our children at risk? I get that you're all about natural substances, but, please, do your part. We're doing our parts to keep your kids healthy...please do the same for ours.
