I am hosting a Bridal Shower. I want to enclose a recipe card with the invitations for each guest to bring to the shower.I am hoping to get a box full of recipes for the bride. I am having a very difficult time finding one. I have looked at Michael's, Joanne's, & Wal*Mart. Any suggestions? I can't order online... no time to wait for shipping. Invitations are going out Tuesday. Thanks in advance. M.

What can I do next?

Hi M., Hallmark has really cute ones, boxes or the binders where you just slide the cards in clear pages, pretty cool and easy. Online at Hallmark doesn't have all their selections, I would actually go the store. Hope you find what you're looking for.

Why not use a 3x5 or 4x6 heavy plastic card box (they come in fun colors and are easy to wipe off from any cooking spills) and the matching card size(you can find these in the office supply area at Wal-mart, Target, CVS, or at Office Depot,Office Max & Staples)?
Each person can write their recipe on the card and decorate with stickers and markers that you provide at the shower (stickers could be cooking, food or bridal themed).

Hope you have fun at the shower!

My sister did this at my bridal shower. I had registered for a recipe box that matched my dishes, so she got me that, and just put a note card in the invitations. They aren't fancy looking, but 9 years later, I still have them in there!

M.,

Try Sam's Club (or Costco). I belong to Sam's Club, and I always see a bunch of recipe books. Maybe they would have a recipe box? I have a recipe box, but I can't remember where I got it. Sorry! A couple other places to check are Hallmark and bookstores, like Barnes & Noble and Borders. You said the invites go out Tuesday. So what? Don't you have until the day of the shower to get the recipe box? If the invites go out Tuesday, the shower would be at least 3 weeks away, right? That is plenty of time to order online and have it shipped before the shower. If all else fails, you can get creative and make one. Good luck!

I looked E V E R Y W H E R E for these last year and the only place I found them was Hallmark! They were inexpensive, and cute, and so much easier to find than tearing apart all the big stores. I bought 2 (one for my friend's gift, one for me b/c I loved them so much). Hallmark is definately the only way to go if you're in a hurry and aren't in a mood for a wild goose chase. You pick out the box that you like, and the dividers are already in there. You can buy matching index cards for most, but I went cheap and bought regular index cards from Walmart or Office Depot to write the recipes on (lots and lots of recipes, lol). Oh---Container Store does have 2 sizes, but they're just the plain see-through plastic ones.

Hi M.! OK I have like the best idea- Walmart ofr everyhting too!
I created my own recipe binder and then found a company that actually made them - I liked mine better it was real personal-but its a great idea:
Get a binder- like a school binder- you can create a personalized front cover to slip in. Maybe a collage of all the people who are invited.....Then- Use the binder dividers- appetizers, desserts-party dishes, chicken- beef- etc.
Then have everyone actually email the recipes to you- you can print them off an a really pretty 8 X 10 paper and pop them in the binder- it will be all ready for the day of the shower and whats best- you slip them into plastic covers (like for reports and all) for binders so that are available- large print, protected during cooking and be propped up for viewing while cooking or on a book stand. It personalizes the book and makes its real practical- You can even go as far as to have a copy or two in each slip so when she wants to share the recipes they are at her finger tips.
I did this for a friends b;day as well and it went over big time! Get a 3 or 5 inch binder so that she can expand her recipes in there as time goes on and give her extra plastic slips to pop them in! I've had mine for years and keep or print the recipes I want and there they are at my finger tips. ALso- the woman can email the stuff to you as well as a pic of them for the collage!
By the way- I have a host assistant service and we do all sorts of parties- showers- cocktail, business luncheons, wine tastings- We would love to be of service to you for your event. We handle all the hustle bustle so you can enjoy your own party. We do it all! You just tell us whats important to you and relaz from there-we keep food current- pass hor d'oeurves, get desserts out when needed, cut the cake and pass out- clean up- tidy around guests and make sure they have drinks.
If you have a fun fancy drink- I can have a bartender to accomodate that. All my servers are TABC certified so wine and beer is so not a problem. But if you need a bartender- we can provide that as well. It just gives you time to be with your guests and not in the stress.

Please feel free to contactme with any questions about the binder and/or service! Its a great idea!

I got mine at Hallmark!

If you can't find it before Tuesday, just send 4x6 index cards out. Run them through the printer to put a picture in the corner.

Try Tuesday Mornings. They seem to have pretty eclectic items that other stores don't always carry.

Do you know anyone, or is there someone here on Mamasource, who sells Longaberger baskets? I got a really pretty recipe box from them years ago, that came with recipe cards. Maybe if someone local sells it, they might have one on hand?

Good luck!

I have seen these at Dollar Tree in the past. If you can't find any I would also suggest index cards. You can buy them in pastels, lined or unlined at most office supply stores and if they are too plain for you, add a wedding bell sticker or rings to remind her later of when she received the recipes.

Good luck. Sounds like you are a great hostess.

I'd try Linens-N-Things, Bed, Bath & Beyond or Williams Sonoma.

Target used to carry them, that's where I found mine. They can be in a weird place, if they're not by the canisters and cookie jars they're sometimes by the dish drying racks and plastic storage containers, etc . I just use 4x6 index cards in mine and I took the ABC cards since I couldn't find any for recipe boxes and used a label maker to make my sorting labels. Otherwise I'm pretty sure Bed Bath & Beyond always carries at least one style of box.
