My daughter's teacher at daycare is moving out of state. It's very sad for us, as she is a wonderful teacher. It is important for me that I give her a meaningful gift to let her know how amazing she has been for us and our little girl. The pre-K class is referred to as the "Butterflies". I was trying to find a poem of some sort that talks about teachers and their children being "butterflies"......do you get my drift? I was thinking of printing it on something my daughter has colored for her, or even having my daughter write the poem in her own handwriting and framing it. Just something small that will let her know how much she will be missed. Any suggestions from you crafy moms out there? =0) And I only have a few days! It doesn't have to be a poem, any suggestions would be very helpful!

What can I do next?

I chose this special present because I wanted you to know,
That I'm grateful for your hard work in helping me to grow.
For your constant understanding and for always being there,
To tell me I can do it and to show me that you care!

I am a pre-school teacher and absolutly love this one!

For our preschool teachers we got an unglazed mug from one of those paint and fire ceramics places, we painted it blue and green (for grass & sky) then in many colors, had each child put their thumbprint on it, then used a pen to make each print into a flower, butterfly. bug etc.. and wrote their name by it. Then had it fired! It was VERY cute.

I love the ornament idea, too!

I found this little poem in the salesian mission books years ago - i always like it - i have a copy hanging on my wall -

the butterfly

i stood by my kitchen window,
heart heavy with dispair.
Hope was gone, my spirit spent,
not sure that god was there.
My unseeing eyes gazed outward,
while inward thoughts ran wild.
Chasing elusive answers,
my soul, by doubt, beguiled.
Then my mind came into focus
as a movement caught my eye -
outside among the flowers
was a tiny yellow, butterfly.
It looked like a bit of sunshine,
dancing in the breeze.
Darting in among the flowers,
it fluttered by with ease.
Entranced by this tiny miracle,
suddenly i knew,
that god in all his mercy,
would gently guide me through.
The god who made the universe,
the god who created me,
the god who made the butterfly
set my spirit free!

I do not have an authors name - by i hope you like it -maybe you could use this and have your daughter put her fingerprints in four little sections like a butterfly-A.

What a sweetheart you are!
My parents both taught school, and they both taught for 35 years. The best gifts they received were Christmas ornaments because we would hang them every Christmas and they would reminisce of those students. They do remember! So, perhaps you can go to Michaels and get the clay that bakes in your oven, I forget what it's called, (pallimer?sp) It comes in colors too! And shape a butterfly, or two or three, poke a hole, bake it, put the ribbon on the top and on back in fine sharpie marker write your child's name and date.
I would also, perhaps include the really cute poem (written by the others) that can be a Christmas treat each year, just 'cause it's not Christmas now doesn't mean it won't be soon!
I hope that's a little helpful. It's all I can think of with the little time you have to say farewell.

Butterflies of many colors.
Fluttering by your shining face.
You looked at them with tender eyes.
You have touched their lives more than you know.
Fly on my little butterflies your adventure has
just begun.
I will always be there with you in your heart.
And never part.

Check out http://www.quotegarden.com/butterflies.html for some nice little quotatios or poems about butterflies. I also found this poem at http://www.wedthemes.com/butterfly-poems.shtml

Butterfly In The Wind Poem

A child is........

A butterfly in the wind,
Some can fly higher than others;
but each one flies the best it can.
Why compare one against the other?

Each one is different!
Each one is special!
Each one is beautiful!

However, poems about butterflies tend to celebrate the butterfly while what you want to do is to celebrate the teacher. I found some cute poems for teachers at http://www.dltk-kids.com/school/poems_for_teachers.htm and http://festivals.iloveindia.com/teachers-day/poems/index..... You can decorate the poem with pictures and/or drawings of butterflies to make that connection.

You could make a butterfly using your daughters hand prints and frame it with a picture of her. Have her use both hands and touch her palms together and her fingers would be the wings. Then you can draw in a face and antenna.

I got these by Googling "Poems Butterflies". Of course that turns up tons of possibilities. Good luck!

HAve you heard Dolly Parton's "Love is Like a Butterfly" song? My daughter danced a beautiful butterfly dance in her 1st grade recital featuring this song. The words are lovely.

Another idea about butterflies would be to get each child in the class to go to a make it yourself pottery place and place their hands around a platter in the shape of butterflies.
(Thumbs together with fingers facing out to make wings).

you could make or have your daughter make a butterfly out of construction paper and around the wings, "thank you Mrs. (insert teachers name) for giving me the wings to fly"
good luck
