Low Cal, but Filling Meals/snacks

Due to a medical condition I can eat every 5 min and still be hungry. I burn my cal's fast.

Yesterday I ate:
Bowl of Kix cereal
Apple Cin Muffin
Granola Bar
Ham & Turkey Sandwich
Big bowl of applesauce
snack size bag of Butterfinger bites
snack size bag of gluten free chips (found in my bosses office) LOL
Granola bar
Spag for dinner
Ice Cream Twix Bar
Popcorn chicken dipped in ranch dressing

Today so far:
Bowl of Kix
Apple Cin muffin
1 Donut

So to me this seems like a ton of food and that I would be like 200 lbs, but I am not. I am only 111 standing tall at 5'9". :( The doctor's are looking into this and are wanting to run some tests, but I can't afford them right now so I have to hold off for a few months. :(

Can anyone give me some ideas of food/snacks that are very filling and will hold me over for hopefully a few hours so I am not starving all the time? It is only 10:25 and I'm hungry again.

Looks like what you listed doesn't include a lot of protein like beans, chicken, eggs, etc. Filling produce like potatoes, apples, bananas will help and definitely get some fiber from whole grains, brown rice, and veggies. When I need a snack, sometimes I'll have an apple with peanut butter, or some low sodium V8 juice with cheese and a high fiber wheat tortilla.

You eat a lot of simple carbohydrates, which raise your blood sugar quickly, and then drop it quickly too, resulting in hunger again very soon. You need protien and whole grains and good fats to keep you feeling full and give you something to keep your calories up and your blood sugar steady.

Nuts, avacados, cheese, meat, whole wheat crackers (like triscuts.) Fruit and cheese would be much better and give you some calories, while filling you up and the fiber in it will digest more slowly. Smoothies with coconut, banana, pineapple, and full fat yougut would also be good. I would add full fat cottage cheese and yougurt and whole or 2% milk, if cholestorol is not an issue for you.

Instead of the popcorn chicken dipped in dressing, what about a grilled chicken salad with olives, feta cheese, pecans, dried cranberries, deep green lettuce and greens, and ranch dressing? That would fill you up, have a good number of calories for your high metobolic rate, and give you a protein source and good quality fats to break down slowly that would keep your blood sugar steady and stave off hunger in an hour.

Check the carbohydrate count on all the foods that you are eating. Most of them are from highly processed simple sugars...white flours, sugar, etc. You have a high metablolism for what ever reason, but you need to eat more high quality foods with fiber, high quality fats, and protien to balance out the simple sugars you eat.

I like that you posted. Those of us with slow metobolbic rates who eat well, and still have weight issues like the chance to say that some people can eat high calorie junk foods all day (like many assume that we do) and seem healthy because they are slim. You demonstrate the importance of respecting each individual's issues prior to any assumption about them, and I hope you find your answer to your metobolic issues soon too...it must be every bit as difficult as my own.

Bless your heart, eat up! I will be thinking of you as I eat my orange, and drink my water, then make my salad for dinner with 3 oz of grilled chicken breast, no calorie dressing, and have my 80 calorie yogurt for desert...Oatmeal for breakfast (steele cut, no milk, no sugar) apple, coffee-black, fat free cottage cheese lunch with multi colored bell pepers, and asperugus- and half a banana. Sigh...

Just quickly looking over your list, I'm seeing a lot of processed, refined carbs and sugars and not too many fruits, veggies and protein. So if it's calories your body needs, chances are, you're getting plenty of them. But those processed foods won't keep you feeling full or satisfied very long. Add in some cut up raw veggies (eat a TON of those if you want, dip THOSE in ranch dressing), fruit (again, eat a TON of those and dip those into yogurt for an added protein kick). And add more pure protein: chicken (heck, go get a whole roasted chicken from your grocery store, you know, the rotisserie kind that's already cooked, and eat half of it!), lean beef, fish, whatever you feel like. But if yesterday's list is an example of a normal day for you, you're definitely getting the calories, but not much actual nutrition, which your body needs to fight whatever it may be that you have. Side note: I know you've got a medical condition and I hope you figure out what it is, but I can't help be just a tiny bit envious of your metabolism - I gain a pound if I look at a bar of chocolate!

Martha before me had great advice-you should listen to her. I agree-you have lots of simple carbs and not enough complex carbs or protein. Protein will totally fill you up so add more. Maybe make a smoothie with Protein Powder (GNC has this or a drugstore). Start your day with eggs, whole wheat toast and maybe canadian bacon. Or peanut butter on whole wheat. Or a bowl of grape nuts or another whole grain and healthy cereal. Add a soup to your lunch. And salads with protein added-nuts or seeds as well. Snack on apples, almonds, low fat cheese and triscuits. hummus and veg.
If you start eating cleaner you will not be nearly as hungry as you are. It is all about chemistry.

Try a bowl of oatmeal (steel cut).
A bowl of plain coleslaw (1 1/2 cups) is only 20 calories. You can put a little dressing on it. Try different ones for variety. I tried a ginger dressing on it that tastes wonderful to me.
Try more protein and more fiber rich foods.

Always being hungry, always eating, and having a hard time gaining weight could be a sign of hyperthyroidism. It can be a very serious condition.
I wouldn't put off going to the doctor for very long if you can help it.

If you are burning calories fast, then eat more foods with substance. Protein fills you up better, so things like eggs and lean meats are great. If you like beef jerky that will fill you up as a nice snack. Nuts are wonderful too. There are some great recipes for smoothies. We love yogurt smoothies with fruit and agave nectar to sweeten it a bit. Also if you need weight use the whole milk yogurts or the good brand greek yogurt. Best of wishes

Protein will fill you up and hold you over. Combine that with a fruit or veggie and a little bit of carbs and you're good to go. My new fav find is the Fiber Plus Caramal Chocolate Fudge bars...they taste JUST like a Somoa!!!

High fiber foods are very filling.
The snacks that seem to hold me over the longest are:
banana topped with 1 tbs peanut butter, 1/2 tbs agave nectar or honey, 1 tbs sunflower seeds (I am addicted to this snack!)
sweet potato (I just nuke in the microwave) topped with cinnamon and a bit of honey or agave nectar

You might consider starting out with oatmeal for breakfast. It tends to fill me up for longer than dry cereal. I also find that the more flour and sugar I eat, the hungrier I am. Sugar is so addictive. It is really hard to cut it out of the diet, but you might find that you are actually less hungry once you do. It will take a few days though. I would also suggest getting a reusable water bottle and drink as much water as possible. Let us know what your doctor says!

Looking at the food you ate... all you're eating is junk food. You need more protein and some vegetables and fruits. Try beans, nuts, fresh veggies with dip, etc. Most importantly, though, don't just grab a granola bar or a bag of chips. Every time you eat, make sure you have protein and fat. That combination will fill you up way better than the empty sugar calories you've been eating.

For example:

Breakfast: whole wheat english muffin topped with jelly and peanut butter, apple, glass of whole milk.

Snack: grapes and cashews or almonds

Lunch: turkey and cheese sandwich with chips on the side

Snack: hard boiled egg, low sugar yogurt, carrot sticks with dip

Dinner: steak or chicken, a baked potato, sour cream, green beans.

You'll be eating about the same amount of calories but your body will be getting what it needs (vitamins, minerals, protein) and you won't always be hungry.
