hi moms. im throwing in the towel on me and my husband ever having another baby. so i want to go on birth control when i see my dr on the 28th for a physical. i want to go on birth control and when i told my husband he got mad over it! (yeah the man who doesnt want more kids got mad!). i was like you dont want anymore and have made it clear and with my health issues with my cycles my time is running out so now im going to say good bye to my chances of having more kids and go on birth control. (fyi mind you he was put in charge of the birth control like 2 months ago and refused to buy condoms yet told me he would be upset if i got preg.) i cant take his emotional roller coaster games. we had unprotected sex for about a week last month and so far im testing negative (lets hope it stays that way!). i will be asking for a preg test before i get prescribed birth control. anyways enough of my rambling. my question is what low dose birth control do you moms like. i really want to go on the shot again but it made me seriously crazy and moody. im horrible about taking pills (i was on low estrin 24 and had to double pills a lot because i forgot and the husband isnt helpful at all). i was thinking about the nuva ring but i dont know much about it. any help would be great..... im soo over the ups and downs and just want to try and be happy...
oh and i also think im depressed (and i will be talking to my dr about this). what medications for depression did you like and made you still feel normal and able to function with your child.

What can I do next?

J.,
The best bc I have ever used it tri sprintec! It is great, no mood swings!! Its worked well for several women I know. I also forget to take my pill all the time, my friends tell me to keep it where my toothbrush is to remember to take it every day. Also, you are still very very young you have plenty of time to have lots more children:)) I had my first when I was 27 and my second when I was 30 and I still want one more! To tell you the truth most of my friends had their first kids at my age or even older. Another thing, no matter how great a husband is they will never help out with the bc, I truly think something in their brain doesn't allow them to understand all that women stuff we go through!! Good luck!

You're only 23 years old. I'm sure that you aren't completely closing the door on ever having another child. Guys don't usually buy the condoms, unless they know for a FACT that without them nothing is happening.

The ring works good. You just really have to mark your calendar to remind yourself to take it out at the beginning of week four.

Good luck.

You've gotten a decent amount of advice. I have been on Prozac before for about a year. I liked it. It was mild and easy for me, but not everyone has a good reaction to it. Be very informed before you take any antidepressant! I was also on Yaz for mood swings and helping to keep my cycles on schedule. I did like Yaz a lot and may go back on it. I have also been on the Nuva Ring. I did like it, but I had a unique problem with it. I don't know if it's just me, but every time (almost)I used the restroom (to pee or otherwise) it would end up coming out/partially out!!! So it got to the point every time I'd use the restroom, I'd take it out and reinsert it each time. Ugh... Obviously, it wasn't a repeat prescription!! Right now, I'm on a low dose pill (Camilla) because I'm still nursing my son (barely.. he's basically weaned) and it works well for me. Tell your hubby he needs to get "fixed"... It's an out patient procedure, and I've known quite a few men who have done it and other than some discomfort the first day or so, it's not a problem!! That way, he can feel spontaneous and you can feel safe (and drug free!!)

Good luck!

I have the Mirena IUD and love it. It uses a very low dose of constant hormones and has been great. I don't have to remember a pill, or change rings or patches, and my cycle has gone from 7 days of awful cramps and heavy bleeding to maybe a day or 2 of spotting with no cramps. It lasts for 5 years and I'm on year 2 with no issues. :) Good luck.

I live by the nuva ring it was the only thing that I liked. Yes I did take the pill when I was early teens through my late 20's but when I got pregnant with my daughter and I was on the pill I was ready for a change. After my daughter was born I started the nuva ring and it worked great I didn't have to remember to take a pill everyday which was awesome. What you might want to let your doctor know is that you are feeling that your hormones are not feeling like you think they should. I was watching Dr. Phil about a week ago and his wife Robin did the show about womens hormones and how women in there 20's could be going through early signs of menopause and they think that it is depression so the doctor treats that person for depression and the problem only gets worst not better. If you want to read more about it go to Robins website www.robinmcgraw.com she is awesome. Don't think that you are alone in this there is help. I hope that this information helps my prayers are with you. God Bless

I was just talking to a friend who swears by Yaz for helping mood swings. She says she ran out and didn't take for a month and could really notice a difference in her moods. Also you could use the patch if you have trouble remembering to take pills. What about a diaphram I used those a long time ago. Your best option would be have your husband have a vasectomy (sp) but he sounds like that won't happen. Good luck.

you know what they say about birth control pill right???99% effective and 1 % chance of conceiving. I applaud you for being considerateabout the pill and avoiding having another child as you wish. Your husband on the other hand is being childish and irresponsible for not taking part on this situation. Unprotected sex??? come on,,,. If I may suggest, he needs to see a counselor about his behavior!! You did your part of being pregnant and delivered your baby, HE need to do his part not just the sex, but the long responsibility to it afterwards. Voicing your emotions about being depress is a very good outlet, talking to your MD helps a lot. He/she can prescribe a medications for you or he/she can refer you to a support group. Take care and good luck!!!

I am sorry that you are dealing with problems in your marriage. It is hard when you get married and you think things will be a certain way, then things turn out differently. I think that you need to work with a counselor to help you in focusing on your feelings of sadness over your husband's decision not to have more children. It seems like this has really affected you and possibly your marriage. I would ask my doctor for a referral to a counselor that works on a sliding scale (you pay according to what you can afford). I think I would go that route before going on any type of medications, because they can sometimes affect people negatively. Ask your doctor to run a CBC and Chem 7 to check you iron levels, etc. And like the other person suggested, do things like exercise and eating lots of fruits and vegetables so that you can take care of you. You can't be any good to your daughter or the rest of your family if you don't take care of you first. Get lots of rest, exercise, eat balanced meals and do something nice for yourself everyday...even if it is only a few minutes out of the day. Remember, you are worth it!

Best of luck,
J.

Hi! I have always had to be careful about BC because I am so sensitive to the hormone changes. My Dr put me on FemCon. I think it's fairy new because a lot of people haven't heard of it and the pharmacy had to special order it for me the 1st time. It is a chewable or you can swallow it like normal BC pills. I was horrible about taking it on time, but then I put it with my contacts so I had to move it each morning to be able to see and that helped :) You should put the pills by something you do every day, even if it's your keys that you grab going out the door, or in the car! Good luck!

Everyone has different reactions to different types of birth control, as I'm sure you already know. So unfortunately, it is mostly a trial and error sort of thing. My friend did the Nuva ring and she kept getting yeast infections (i really can't recall why - but perhaps it's just her body reacting to it?).

I really just wanted to respond to request that you please seek some counseling of some sort. You seem really depressed and sad in your marriage and situation. It will be good to get some marriage counseling and personal counseling. You may want to start with your doctor who can recommend therapists, free counseling and possibly medication.

Good luck with everything and you are in my prayers.

Excersize for the depression before you take a pill.

Try the ring, ask for info from the Dr about it, maybe getting spayed would be better, no more drugs.

I take Celexa as a seretonin uptake inhibitor for migraines and I had no bad side effects from it. Getting off of it takes a while and I am almost weaned off. Don't ever just stop this drug.

J.,

My schedule is hectic and I never remembered to take the pill and maintain keeping up with work and my son. So, I love the Nuva Ring. There is software on their website you can download to your desktop that reminds you to remove it. So far I love it.

As for depression, my OBGYN recommended exercise and therapy...love both!
