Lump on Back

My 7 yr old has a pea size lump on her back. She said it hurts to touch it and it itches. In everything I've read it looks to be a cyst, but I am going to take her to the doctor anyway. Has anyone had any experience with this before? If so, what was the outcome?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I took my daughter to the doctor and they said it is a cyst & it was nothing to be alarmed about. Just to keep an eye on it.

My 2 month old daughter was born with one on the back of her scalp. It moves a little when you rub the skin. The pediatrician said it was indeed a cyst and that it would either go away on its own, or stay that same pea-sized shape as she grew bigger. She says its not a cause of concern and that it shouldn't cause pain. But I have on on my left wrist that appeared when I was a teen and I know from experience that if I bump my hand it will hurt, or if I press on it, its hurts a bit. They are liquid filled and can be drained or completely removed. Had mine removed at 16 and it came back within a year or two- so I let it be. When my daughter gets old enough to talk I'll know if it bothers her as far as pain. If it doesn't and since its covered by her hair, I'll probably leave it alone. Good luck.

M.,
I've had one on my wrist for alomost 10 years. It will pop sometimes too (I know it sounds gross, but it's not that bad lol!). They said I could get it romoved, but it's never been that big of a deal. Good luck!

Hi M.....

I just had a HUGE bump on my lower back and my doctor told me it was a cyst. He offered the option of removing it or letting it pop on its own. I chose to wait a little while longer and it finally popped on it's own. No big deal, didn't even hurt when it popped.

I had one on my back. It hurt when I would lean on it. Not much... just a little. I was worrying about it so and talked to my dr. I went and had it removed. It was nothing. But I would rather be safe than sorry. I also have one on my right thigh but it doesn't bother me.

My husband had one on his back before I met him, and they just cut it out and stitched it up. Never had any problems since - just a little scar.

Most likely a lipoma (fatty cyst) most times do not even require a cut, they can "pop" them out very easily.
