Any good ideas?
Thank you

So What Happened?

I knew it.....you mamas are brilliant. I received many great ideas of where to recycle my magazines:
library, retirement/nursing home, hospital, elementary schools (for projects.....they cut them up), Craigslist, freecycle.com, hairdresser (will try her again) used book store, babysitter. Thank you. I love the idea of the retirement home. I will try there first. Thank you all again for the great ideas!

I, too, do not want to throw them away and haven't found a convenient way for me to pass them on tho I have some ideas for you.

When I lived in Tempe, AZ, outside Phoenix, the library took them and put them in a small area in which they sold books and magazines. That was easy. Even when they were closed I could leave them on the dock.

A hospital here in Portland, OR at one time had notices up near the entrance that said that they could use magazines and for us to leave them in a box. The box was gone the last time I was there. Also my Kaiser Permanente clinic had a similar sign. I haven't gotten my rounded up so that I could drop them off.

I have taken some to the YMCA after school day care program at my granddaughter's school. They use them for crafts. And a teacher friend of mine, that has now retired, took them to cut up, also.

You could offer them on Craigslist. I had a year's worth of Parents magazine---full of great articles, still relevant, etc. I put them in the free section on CL, and a woman who was several months pregnant and didn't have a lot of extra money for magazines or time to get to the library was thrilled to have them. We met up at a local Whole Foods parking lot that was midway between our homes, so it wasn't too inconvenient for either of us.

You could also offer them to a local preschool or grade school (early grades). I brought some to my son's preschool. They used them for projects or for practice in cutting.

Often, nursing or retirement homes are a good option, as well, depending on the nature of the magazines.

Very nice of you to think of others, and surely, you'll find someone who wants them!

Make trees out of them.
Check out the Martha Stewart site - she did them as Christmas decorations. We are going to make them and give them out as hostess gifts.
YMMV

I put them on freecycle or Craigslist and always get people who want them. Do you have a hairstylist, massage therapist, or doctor's office that would want them? I used to take them to the hair stylists.

Now my babysitter takes them when she comes.

I always take them to a nursing home near my house and they LOVE to get them. They use for reading as well as craft projects when they get worn.....

We live on a fairly busy street, Many people set them out on the curb with a FREE sign on them. People pick them up to enjoy.

Or if you do post it on freecycle.com or Craigslist, just say on the post.
"I have placed free (Title) magazines on the curb at (list address) please help yourself"..

We have a used book store here that will give you money or store credit for some old magazines, books, etc. You could call and see if the ones you have are the ones they purchase.

We can donate to the library and get a tax decuction. most of the time I have a bag ready for the library but end up throwing them in the recycle bin.

Donate them to the nearest school. Even High Schools use magazines for projects. I hated it when I had to go and buy a new magazine just to be cut up for a school project. You would not only be getting rid of your magazines but helping children in the proccess....
