Make up "Make Over"

I am trying to find a product that works well to cover my under eye circles. I hate buying things and then finding that they really don't work. I'd like to go to a make-up counter and have them "do" my eyes and see what I think. I'm not sure where to go. I've never been to a Sephora store, I understand that they actually sell a bunch of different brands so I am wondering if that might be my best bet.

Have you gone to the make-up counter and gotten some real every day help? Where did you go?

Thanks, M.

I would recommend a Nordstrom "beauty stylists". They are like a personal shopper for make-up and they're free! They have all makeup lines available to them, so you generally end up with the best of everything because you aren't committed to a single line. Hopefully there's one near you!

Department stores have multiple make-up counters for different cosmetic companies, all of whom will let you try on a product for free. They can apply it for you - you might ask them to do one eye, and then coach you through doing the second eye yourself. You are not obligated to buy anything - remember you are under fluorescent lights, and it's okay to look at yourself in natural light. Ask the rep for her card so you can return to her personally if you decide to purchase. It's okay to try a different counter on the next day, and do some comparisons (take a selfie if you want to!).

I agree that yellow concealer is ideal, but go ahead and try a few different counters. I'd go to a department store that has several competing companies rather than set my sights on a particular store.

I know this isn't a direct answer to your question but it's a related answer. Instead of looking for makeup, maybe try to find the cause of your dark circles. Are you getting enough sleep? You should be getting closer to 8 hours than 6 or less each night. Are you drinking enough water? Not coffee, actual water. You should be drinking half your weight in ounces of water each day. Getting out and taking a walk helps as well. I find when I'm getting tired and stressed out or dehydrated the circles under my eyes are worse and nothing will hide them. I take it as a sign that I need to slow down and take a little better care of myself.

ETA: One other things I remembered. It could be allergies. Any time anyone in our house is having issues with allergies we all get dark circles under our eyes. The kids' doctor said it's a common symptom of allergies.

Not actually answering your make-up question but try googling "gluten dark circles eyes". Perhaps if you have an allergy to gluten that is causing the dark circles. Just a thought...

Have you tried a yellow concealer stick? That's really the trick for under eye circles.

I've had my make up done at Origins.

I use a product called boi-ing for a concealer and it works great. I think I bought it at Sephora.

Ditto IamAKat. Dehydration causes the dark circles. The small capillaries under the eyes are close to the surface and when dehydration occurs, the blood gets darker. It's cheaper than makeup 😊

I do this at Clinique, I never buy anything from them without first having them try it out on me to see if I like it. I also want them to "show" me how to apply the makeup and recommend the best shades. If you buy it and use it at home and then have problems with it, you can exchange it. One particular product caused me to break out and they took it back without any problem.

My daughter's had her eyes don at Sephora and they were very, very helpful. I've used Clinique with great results.

I have had good luck with the Physician's Formula yellow concealer stick at the local pharmacy. But, any store that sells make up will do it for you and help you out. I would try Ulta, Sephora, Macy's, Nordstrom, etc.. You might want to call and make an appointment if it is a busy place, but I've never had to.
