put a squirt of lemon juice on them. They won't taste any different, but they won't get brown. That's how they do it in restaurants, and banana pudding recipes.
Ok I have been making my daughters baby food since she was 4 months old. I do not have any issue on anyother item that I give her. But everytime that I blend up banannas they turn brown within a few minutes. Even if I give it to her right afer I blend them before she can finish them they are brown. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
works great thank you for all the feedback

Hi, I am not sure I personally would like adding anything to my baby's bananas but ask your pediatrician... I am on my third baby and what I have done with all 3 for both apples(also turn brown) and bananas is get a small metal spoon and scrape off a bit and feed her accordingly. On the bananna I peel it a bit and scrape off the side as I go... This way I also ensure that I use only what is needed. On the apple I cut it in hal and start scraping... I have done this with them since they were 4 months. When they can hold their own food then I place the fruit in a mesh device for feeding... they love it!!
Here is one of them: http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId...
They sell several versions of it...even publix sells a good one.
Good luck and congrats on feeding her natural!!!
Sue Ellen,
Try putting a little lemon juice in the blender before blending. It should keep them from turning.

Hi Sue Ellen,
I know that in recipes for adults, that is fruit salad and such, you would squirt some fresh lemon juice on the banana and that will keep it from turning brown, also works for peaches. I have a 6 month old daughter who will begin eating solids this weekend, but I'd like to make her food myself. Any advice, or website suggestions where I can find info on this issue? I hope the lemon juice info is helpful.
Try fruit fresh it keeps all fruit-apples bananas-melon... From turning brown it is in the cake section at publix i use it all the time it works!
Hey there, I use to peel the banana and scrap off small amounts directly from the banana with a spoon and feed my baby and that way the banana doesnt get brown. Hope this helps. It's even easier to carry a banana like this when you go out.
Yes a little lemon juice will work and you can also just mash it with your fork, the less you process it the longer it takes to turn brown.
Best of luck to you, keep up the good work Mom!

I always just mashed my daughters banana up with a spoon or fork. I never had any problems with it turning brown.
Hi S.,
Try sprinkling on/mixing in a little buffered Vitamin C powder. Available in any health store, in gelatin capsules that are easy to open and then re-seal to keep the rest until needed. Or a little orange juice if your kids don't mind the taste of it in the bananas. Another thing that will work is a multi-mineral spray product by Zenza. It keeps apple slices white for hours after cutting if you spray it on them. It has no preservatives, nothing chemical. You can get it from their website, I think it's Zenza.com. If you can't find the website, write me back, I'll find it for you.

Hey my suggestion is to mash them by hand it takes a few mins. but they won’t turn brown as fast. Also a squeeze of lemon will slow/prevent the browning affect when the banana oxidizes.
Hope this is helpfull for you!
